Reports: Patrick Mahomes has kneecap dislocation, no fracture

AP

The Chiefs will know more about Patrick Mahomes‘ injury Friday when he undergoes a magnetic resonance imaging test.

But early indications are that he dislocated his kneecap but does not have a fracture, according to multiple reports.

An MRI will provide a clearer picture about whether Mahomes has ligament damage.

Mahomes wasn’t in the X-ray room long when the Chiefs ruled him out with a right knee injury. He was injured on a second quarter quarterback sneak.

Owner Clark Hunt, General Manager Brett Veach and Mahomes’ girlfriend and Mahomes’ agent were in the locker room with the quarterback in the third quarter, James Palmer of the NFL reports.

Mahomes went 10-for-11 for 76 yards and a touchdown before his injury.

Matt Moore replaced Mahomes.

  1. I can’t believe I predicted this. I just had this intuition.

Anyway, nice effort Denver. You blow your one chance to pull within a game of KC with the tiebreaker. You’re home. You’re riding a 2 game win streak. KC has a two game losing streak. Mahomes goes down before halftime. Whoa what a stinker.

  2. The good news, at least for tonight, is Flacco is completely checked out. He looks completely disinterested. They might want to make sure he still has a pulse when he comes to the sideline.

Another bang up QB hire by Elway.

  3. I would give him as long as he needs to rest and then rest him a few extra weeks.

It is possible to win in Foxboro in January but only with the best version of Mahomes. Moore will help you qualify for the playoffs, but don’t sweat seeding at this point.

  4. Mahomes did right thing pushing cap back on. Saved himself weeks of extra therapy and damage not letting it get swollen stiff. Same thing happened to myself, and I pushed cap back on, and was forgetting I had a bum leg by next day. Mahomes might be back next week, definitely week after.

  5. This is a very bad injury especially for a QB who relies on his legs a lot to be effective. The chance of recurrence is 40% without surgery and a brace is apt to be a permanent fixture. It’s 3-6 weeks without surgery and no complications and 10-12 weeks with surgery before activity can resume. With complications, it can be a whole lot worse. It’s a shame this happened to a great young talent like this. Lots of guys never really come back from this sort of thing.

  6. I had patella dislocation about 11 years ago and I was in my early twenties, I had PT 3x/week for over a year and I was super dedicated to my at home routine afterwards for another 2-3 years. Even now 11 years later I still don’t feel confident on it. Hopefully Mr. Mahomes can recover, he’s great for the sport.

  7. Thank goodness he didn’t fracture the knee cap like Kyrie Irving as that’s a terrible injury. Now hopefully he didn’t tear his ACL MCL or LCL but can’t c that til MRI. I’ve seen ppl walk w ACL injuries I’ve seen guys play a cpl plus I’ve seen wrestlers finishes matches hear how they were ok walked into ER to get MRI and everything was torn which is always a possibility w dislocated knee cap injuries. Hope he’s good hope he misses least amount of time as possible always stinks seeing top QB’s injured and hope he’s back in a cpl weeks.

  8. Hope hes ok but assume he will miss a few weeks at least. On the bright side if it’s nothing major is it will give his ankle some time to really heal. Could turn out to be a good thing, if Moore can win a game or three in his absence.

Was looking forward to seeing the State Farm guys battle it out next week. Might be the only chance for a Rodgers Mahomes matchup for 4 years unless they are fortunate enough to play in the SB.

  9. As a Raiders fan I’ve seen some pretty bad teams. Having said that, this Denver team is rancid puke. How does Elway keep his job? He brings in Flacco and all I could read from Flacco’s expressions was “oh well, I still get a check this week right? No fire, no will. I can’t stand the Doncos but I was hoping they’d stick it to KC especially after Mahomes went down. But nope, they are who we though they were. A bad team.

  10. Mahommes agent was there because his only other client is the Packers QB and he didn’t play today.

  11. Get well soon PM. Would hope you are on the field vs the pack and vikes in the coming weeks. Just beat gb. Skol

Like Cutler in Miami. Just a nest egg paycheck before hitting the couch

  13. Can speculate til the cows come home the mri will tell everything. None of us are doctors but i remember when Carson Palmer tore his acl mcl in the playoff game he also dislocated his kneecap. From what I can remember they said that’s common because the ligaments stabilize and hold the kneecap in place. If it slid out then there is a real possibility there is ligament damage which means that wold be the season. Bit again this is from my recollection I am not a doctor and only the mri will tell the truth.
