Carson Wentz: Cowboys “beat the crap out of us”

Getty Images

Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz didn’t mince words about the way he and his teammates performed on Sunday night in Dallas.

We didn’t show up,” Wentz said, via the Morning Call. “They beat the crap out of us.”

The Eagles are 3-4 and appear to have an uphill climb to the playoffs. They’re a game behind the Cowboys in the NFC East, and last night’s game gives the Cowboys the tiebreaker advantage as well. And the Eagles are two games out of the wild card, where the 5-2 Seahawks and 5-2 Vikings reside.

Still, Wentz believes the Eagles are a good team and will show that over the remaining nine games of the season.

“I’m confident that we’ll get things fixed,” Wentz said. “This is a ticked off group. We’re going to rebound from it.”

Wentz may be confident, but it’s becoming increasingly difficult for people outside the Eagles’ locker room to have confidence that this team is going anywhere.

  1. Are you having fun now, turnstyle Lame Johnson?
Wentz looked scared and totally rattled all nite. Glad I dont root for the Iggles, Id be turning my attention the Flyers now

  2. Realistic Eagles fan here. We got undressed last night – no other way to spin it.

Howie Roseman made the classic mistake of rewarding veterans with big extensions for past accomplishments (SB 52) and now, we’re paying for it. The Patriots dont make mistakes like that. Now we are saddled with a bunch of older declining players.

Couple that with terrible drafting and here we are. Howie Roseman owns this mess.

Even though they won the SB, the Patriots broke their spirit. They’re right around .500 ever since…
    ===========================================
Too early in the morning for lame-brain statements! Spirits broken by winning the SB against the dynasty? Please explain.

  4. Huge Eagles fan here. I see a bunch of players out there, not a team. Wentz has more talent than Foles but the team aspect was much more apparent with Foles. They played hard, they played together and they played for each other. I’m not saying this is on Wentz but his leadership is lacking.

  5. I’m starting to think Wentz is not the answer. It’s hard to tell though since the defense continues to give up points in bundles. I’ll be surprised if they even finish above .500.

  6. Dak outplays Wentz over and over again. He has him beat in all stats and has accomplished more in the league than Wentz, yet people think Wentz is the far superior QB. The delusion of people.

    Should have kept Foles.

    ————————
You mean the guy who is out for the season with a broken collarbone who has never finished a 16 game season? The guy caught lightning in a bottle for 6 games and everyone thinks he’s Joe Montana. Typical of our shallow thinking/sample size society. If you think the quarterback is the issue then you’re not watching the games.

  8. I don’t mean to say the Eagles didn’t outplay the Packers, they did; but the Packers played a game that was a huge comedy of errors. Eagles beat the team I root for fair and square, but the Packers did not help themselves with all of the boneheaded play they put on the field during that game.

  9. Carson has got to be incorrect here. I heard Doug Pederson predict a win and that guy is just never wrong about anything.

  10. Eagles fan here…. That was a tough game to watch. Turnovers, poor tackling, overthrown balls, and dropped passes. At one point, the Eagles has a holding penalty, a turnover, and gave up a touchdown in 3 plays. Awful.

I agree the team played better with Foles. It would just feel like they were going to win. Foles is a natural leader. Prior to the game Last night, Wentz and the rest of the team are listening to a pregame speech by Malcolm Jenkins. We isn’t even in the center of the circle. He’s clearly not embraced as a leader of this team, at least not on the level of Jenkins and maybe some others.

That aside, Wentz was running for his life all night. He will suck if he doesn’t have time to throw, as will any quarterback, Brady included.

  11. Can the Eagles get Frank Reich back? How is the new OC not receiving any criticism here? The offense been horrible for 2 years now. Boring and predictable.

And the Jets beat the crap out of the cowboys

    ——-

I mean Dallas lost but it was by 2 points, hardly beat the crap out of them…Yes I konw it’s the Jets but still.

  13. And NOW they must make the trek up to Buffalo. I can’t lie. The Eagles are looking like a good meal right about now and the Bills are set to feast. Should be a very interesting game to say the least.

  14. Play calling is HORRIFIC! Last year, Ertz had 116 receptions and over 1100 yards (plus 8 TDs). This year 35 receptions nearing the half-way point, and 1 touchdown. You’re trying to force-feed other weapons and are ignoring one of your top talents.

  15. Used to enjoy watching the eagles and their extremely passionate city and fans. You always kind of hoped they could win a championship. Like the old San Diego Chargers, I guess. Lane Johnson changed that. Now I enjoy the Eagles losses.

  16. Geeez….they’re only a game out, and they still have another game against Dallas – at Philly. They looked bad, but this sort of thing is becoming the new normal in the NFL. Remember, Dallas looked just as bad last week – against the Jets!

  17. Carson needs to step up. He hasn’t been the same player since the knee injury and with each mounting loss his confidence wanes. I am not putting the blame entirely on him. But he doesn’t have the look of an elite player who can put a team on his back and carry it to victory.

Foles isn’t out for the season and Wentz the cancer is 3-4

    ********
Because Reich went 7-9 in 2016 with wnetz and eagles won with foles last year without Reich so no

  20. I see a Colts team that looks prepared every week (Frank Reich) and a Philly team that is unprepared every other week.

Won with Foles last year? Foles was so bad to start the season that they brought Wentz back too soon from his ACL which contributed to his back injury. Foles then came back and he played well against the Texans and he definitely had a hand in the right combination of teams winning and losing in week 17 to make the playoffs, and he was absolutely the reason the Bears kicker hit the upright and crossbar on the same kick as time expired. How about him missing a wide open Ertz against the Saints in the next round? Or him not being able to score a point in the second half due to his inaccuracy, but you’re right, let’s put him in Canton.

  22. The Eagles are a dumpster fire . You have a coach who has lost his team and an overpaid QB who isn’t respected by many on the team . Pederson looks as lost on the sideline as his team does on the field . What you saw against the Cowboys was a team that quit on their coach and made him look like an idiot for guaranteeing a win .

  23. Pederson is in way over his head.

He rode Favre to his first ring and Reich to his second.

Also they absolute worst group of WR’s in the NFL……

  24. Wentz ain’t the problem…part of it comes down to key players on the team getting old as we watch. Peters can’t finish a game, Jackson heals too slow, Kelce isn’t the Kelce of 2017, etc. I blame Howie for paying players on sentimentality rather than today performance. And, drafting a bunch of stiffs…

Love the Viking fans smelling themselves after throwing TDs to our injury riddled secondary. 4 of our top 5 CBs didnt play. Hopefully we meet again…but I dont think I the Vikes will make the playoffs.

    ___________________________

The Vikings play in the NFL’s best division, so I have no idea whether they will make the playoffs. The only thing keeping the Eagles in the playoff hunt is that they reside in the NFL’s worst division, where a losing record may well be enough to win the title.

Oh, and since you brought up smell, you stunk last week and last night.

  26. Please Mr.Wentz dont pump up Cowboys fans enormous heads by saying this! Its already big as it is now!…..Dallas still cannot beat a winning team and Im still Laughing it up over that loss to the mighty Jets!!!-

  27. Calm down Eagles fans. Your team isn’t as bad as you believe. There were some uncharacteristic plays for them last night and when the Cowboys come to Philly, I’m sure the Eagles will be ready. More than any other team I dread it when the Cowboys play the Eagles. Happy for the win but sad because it keeps JGs Hope’s alive.

I am not even try to explain. Looks like just a bad omen for a team to face the Patriots in the SBs, win or lose.
Check where are the Seahawks, Giants, Falcons in the standings.

  33. Tell you what – that 2017 was raided of coaches (DeFillipo, Reich), personnel guru (Joe Douglas) and lost a lot of its mojo. The D line is not its former fearful self. Rest of the defense is pathetic. This organization needs a major self analysis this off season. Not just shuffle roster (which is needed), there needs to be an influx of talent onto this coaching staff, the personnel team and in the trainer’s office.

  34. What’s this ‘us’ stuff! It’s all on you Wentz! Maybe he should call Nicky for some advise!

  35. It’s time to be honest in Philly. Wentz is a good QB, above average but definitely not a top QB or Great or MVP canidate as some thought. Completion percentage is only beating Mayfield, Dalton, Mariotta, Winston and barely a rookie Daniel Jones. Passing yards is bottom level and 1 yard better than Flacco. Yards per completion 31st, QB Rating 23rd. Enough of the dropped passes excuses because Gallup (5) and Cooper (4) equals Goddard, Ertz, Agholor, Sprolles and Alshon combined and Dak is still 3rd in Completion Percentage and Yards. Enough of the D-Jax excuses because let’s face it he would be 3rd on your team anyway in Receptions and Targets after Ertz and Alshon so your 1 and 2 are still playing. Wentz targets his RBs more than Dak has as well 41 to 35 this year so that can’t be your argument either why Dak has better #s. Yes he is up there in TDs but that’s about it. Red Zone numbers also nothing special either 8th in RZ attempts but near bottom in RZ Completions at 53% . He is 8-10 as a starter over the last 2 years so why is he on a pedestal like he’s the next Brady, Manning or Brees? He may have started hot but he’s been fading ever since but the excuses continue.
