Patriots cut Jordan Richards after signing Justin Bethel

The Patriots are cutting core special teams player Jordan Richards after coming to terms with Justin Bethel, Field Yates of ESPN reports.

Richards joined the team Oct. 2 and played 59 special teams snaps in three games.

Richards was with the Falcons last season, starting 12 games.

The Patriots drafted him in the second round in 2015, and Richards played 41 games in his first three seasons in New England.

Richards went to camp with the Raiders this year but was released in final cuts.

  1. Saw that coming.

For all the Pats haters complaining about the Pats weak early schedule, FYI the NFL has scheduled that the Pats next 3 opponents, Cleveland, Baltimore, and Philadelphia will all be coming off of their bye week before they face the Pats. I’m sure that is just a coincidence. The league wouldn’t do anything sneaky and underhanded to hamstring the Pats b/c the other NFL owners and fans are “so sick of the Patriots”. I doubt any team has ever had to face three teams in a row coming off their bye before. Or even faced three teams coming off a bye in a season.

  2. Who keeps count on how many snaps a player has? How many statisticians does your average team have?

You can look up the snap count of every player on every NFL team’s roster.

    Baffling that Bethel was cut.

Let me help you out. He either wouldn’t take the PEDs or he has morals. Not hard to figure out.

The Patriots have played the least amount of teams coming off bye weeks than anyone else since Goodell became commish. Weird though the Eagles played 4 teams coming off bye weeks after winning the super bowl. The Patriots have played 5 teams coming off bye weeks combined the last 3 seasons after winning a super bowl. Good try but these we call facts. Patriot fans wont understand.

You must have thought he was cut by the Patriots with your smart remark but he was cut by Baltimore…unless your saying Baltimore cheats

Yeah the league’s out to get the Pats. I haven’t laughed that hard since I heard a Steeler‘s fan crying the same thing. Just be glad your division gives you 6 free wins every year.

I’ve commented on the Pats’ schedule. I’m neither complaining nor a Pats hater — although the fanbase is awful.

My entire point — most Pats fans attribute the defensive performance of the team completely to the defense. I’m not at all convinced of this; the Pats have played mediocre-to-awful subpar offenses all year. Point that out, though, and you get downvoted like crazy.

Also, I agree that the scheduling is due to coincidence. I don’t believe the Pats were “gifted” easy teams or any conspiracy theory explanation. That doesn’t change the fact that they’ve played bad teams all year, though. Purely luck of the draw.

Not to anyone with a brain. Former Raven Brent Urban was signed by Titans, giving Ravens a comp draft pick. But Urban was cut before week 10. Under the league’s complicated compensatory pick formula, the Ravens would lose their comp pick for Urban if they kept Bethel, whom they signed as a FA this past offseason and is a good ST player but not worth a 4th round pick.

Also it’s pretty obvious Bill is trying to get intel from Bethel on Ravens. He does this kind of thing all the time. Not that he’s the only one who does it, but the point is he’s no more ethical than anyone else when it comes to seeking some kind of advantage (as we all saw last night).

  10. I’m a Pats fan and I agree with the criticism that our defense can’t be crowned “great” with the weak schedule we’ve had. The second half of the season will show who we really are.

  11. Good Grief! Are all you jealous / envious Pats haters still blowviating about their weak schedule? Yes, it’s a weak schedule this year. So what! I remember the Pats winning Superbowls in the early 2000’s with BRUTAL schedules. Also, because they win so much their schedule is usually stacked with contenders and prime time games. The division is the division, however, one could argue that the entire reason the AFC east is weak is as a result of the Pats perpetual domination. Those other 3 teams are constantly in a state of flux & rebuilding with perpetual revolving doors of Coaches / GM’s / QB’s / Coordinators coming and going in attempts to compete with the Pats. Just look at this year….both the Jets and the Dolphins are in complete 1st re-build mode.

  12. So the Ravens dump a Special Teams ace so they can get a 4th round compensatory pick. OK…that’s neither here nor there. It’s a business move. However, the Patriots are the team that pounces and pick him up without having to give up any draft capital. Is it any wonder why the Pats are so successful? Why is it that THEY were able to score this Special Teams ace before any of the other 30 teams could?

LMAO Patriots fans are concerned about the Browns coming off a bye?

Every year teams have a schedule like this. Why don’t they all go 7-0 ?
    ——————————————–
Some teams do go 7-0 but this is just too easy. Look at the offensive rankings of each teams the Patriots played, all bottom of the barrel except for the Bills.
