Patrick Mahomes say he would have played tonight if it were a postseason game

It looked for a day or two this week as if Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes would return to action only 10 days after dislocating his kneecap. Apparently, Mahomes would have been back, if the game were being played in January.

Mahomes told Michele Tafoya of NBC’s Sunday Night Football that he’d be playing tonight, if it were a playoff game.

That’s an interesting position to take, since next Sunday’s game against the Vikings could be the closest thing a regular-season game ever gets to being a playoff game, if the Chiefs lose tonight.

A loss tonight to the Packers would drop the Chiefs to 5-3, behind the 5-2 Ravens and the 5-3 Colts (who hold the tiebreaker) for the second seed in the AFC. Next week, in a game that could run Kansas City’s home losing streak to four, maybe Mahomes gets his way and forces his way onto the field, replacing Matt Moore.

Mahomes originally had a timeline of 3-6 weeks. But he apparently is healing faster than expected, and perhaps he could be back in only seven days.

  1. Only the halfway point of the season.
Too early to worry about playoff seating.
A lot can change in 8 games.

  2. Your the Chiefs. You have a cupcake schedule. You are guaranteed the division even if you lose these next two games. You have no shot at the #1 seed but you can reassure yourself that anything can happen in the playoffs.

  3. This is why it’s so important you beat the Colts and Texans at home when you have Mahomes. Now this loss will make the #1 seed out of reach and possibly the bye as well (if the bye is secured by the Colts or Texans). Then you may have to host either the Colts or Texans in a wild card game (precisely where you lost earlier in the season). Could this year mean an early playoff exit for the Chiefs.

Us Barneys have tried to explain that to the Cheezers but they don’t understand that. They Chiefs played pretty well last night considering the circumstances with injuries and I feel they are the team that topples the Patriots. Its way too early to talking play-offs, that’s were teams lose focus. Week by week can’t look ahead. This week Vikes in KC and if Mahomes is ready to go, hes ready to go. That is my whole focus not what Green Bay is doing, or Chicago or Detroit. This thing usually sorts itself out by week 14 and that’s a ways off yet.

  5. The Packers did everything they could to lure Mahomes back next week. A home loss is never good but the Chiefs have 3 of them now and with the Vikings coming to town, they don’t want to tempt fate with a fourth.

To the Viking fans, you’re welcome.

Moore played very well. The drop-off was negligible.
    ____________

Mahomes averages 315 yards and 2.7 touchdowns per game for his career, and has a career 112.1 passer rating. He is widely considered the best QB in the NFL and a future Hall of Famer in only his second year as a starter. Moore is a journeyman backup with a 82.1 career passer rating. Your belief that Mahomes would not have played better than Moore against that defense last night is completely delusional.

Yes he is a very dynamic player and there is a drop off between Mahomes and Moore, but look at the last four game Mahomes has played start to finish a wild win against the Ravens, they eeked out a victory vs. the Lions but Det didn’t get the ball in the endzone enough and settled for too many FGs and gave up a late TD, they lost the Colts, and Texans.

Mahomes was hurt, and would have likely been a sitting duck back there, I think you’re delusional to think that pro bowlers like Kelce and and Hill who could be argued to be the best at their position can’t make plays without Mahomes… there is a reason they are great at what they do and the Reid has had finger prints on several pro bowl QBs through out his career as he is a great offensive mind, and ALWAYS his team ready when the team is given extra time to prepare.
