Nick Bosa is NFC defensive player, NFL defensive rookie of the month

49ers defensive end Nick Bosa was more than just the best defensive rookie in the NFL in October.

The second month of Bosa’s NFL career saw him play at such a high level that the NFL named him the NFC’s defensive player of the month in addition to making him the league’s top defensive rookie for the same period.

Bosa became the third rookie since 1982 to record three sacks and an interception in a game when he pulled it off against the Panthers last Sunday. That capped a four-game run that saw him record 16 tackles, nine tackles for loss, six sacks and a forced fumble to go with that interception.

All of that has made Bosa the leading candidate to be named this year’s defensive rookie of the year. Another month or two like this one and he’ll be in the mix for defensive player of the year as well.

  1. Seahawks, Rams, and Cardinals will have to game plan against him twice a year for the next four-and-a-half seasons, at least. Enjoy!!

  2. yet josh allen from jaguars have the same numbers with less snaps… privilege is a good thing

  3. I could see the Bosa’s playing together in a few years. After what San Diego did with Joey’s rookie deal, I cant see him resigning with them.

Bosa has also played one less game and had no preseadon… but let’s chalk it up to privilege

Come on man! It’s all about the noise you’re making as a player. The Jaguars are making no noise. The 49ers, however, are. And Bosa is a big part of that. Allen is an amazing player but Bosa is ahead of him in several categories other than just sacks. Pressures, tackles for loss, etc. Race has nothing to do with it.

Actually….. Josh Allen has 406 snaps and Bosa has 279.

Allen has over 100 more snaps and similar numbers.

By every available metric, Bosa has been a lot more disruptive. Allen in any other year would be a favorite for DROY but Bosa is just playing at a ridiculous level right now. If he keeps it up he’ll be in discussion for DPOY as a rookie.

The one less game thing is nullified by the fact that Bosa still had more snaps. Jags D-line is loaded so thats expected for Allen to get less opportunities. Either way, I doubt Allen is winning defensive player of the month for the NFC seeing as hes not even in it, and I think Bosa had a good case for defensive rookie of the month even tho Allen did as well. Can’t say I care as a jag fan who wins player of the month tho.

Bosa has played nearly 100 fewer snaps than Allen this season. Also if you’re going to talk about loaded DLs, look who Bosa is playing with. Every other guy on that DL has at least 4 sacks. Bosa has been helping his teammates eat real good.

  10. I would just say, to say it’s between Bosa and Bush for ROY is not fair to Josh Allen (the good Josh Allen). Josh Allen (the good Josh Allen) also has 7 sacks and is playing extremely well. There’s 8 games to go, so no way is it a lock for anyone.

  11. 49ers aren’t the real deal have an easy schedule, and the only tough games they have, they play at home!

Get your numbers right. The only thing that is the same is number of sacks and tackles. Allen has played 8 games and Bosa has played 7 games. Allen has played 358 snaps and Bosa has played 270. Bosa as 11 tackles for a loss to Allen’s 8. Bosa also has a pick and a fumble recovery. Bosa has the highest pressure rate of any player in the NFL, rookie or vet.

  13. 49ers haven’t played anybody, weak schedule, and the only decent teams they play, they get at home not to mention the other team seems to always be missing their star players every time, ie Big Ben, Cam, greedy williams, and ward, and many more!
