Bills stifle Washington in 24-9 win

AP

The Bills took it on the chin against the Eagles in Week Eight, but they got back on track against another NFC East club this Sunday.

Buffalo extended Washington’s run without a touchdown to 13 quarters in a 24-9 home win. The victory leaves the Bills with a 6-2 record halfway through their schedule while Washington is now 1-8 in another lost season.

Josh Allen threw a touchdown pass to cap the first Buffalo drive of the day and ran for another score later in the first half. The Bills offense was quiet for much of the second half, but they took advantage of good field position late in the fourth quarter to drive for a Devin Singletary touchdown that put the icing on the cake.

Dwayne Haskins was making his first start at quarterback for Washington and interim head coach Bill Callahan went with a game plan that called for the running game and defense to pave a path to victory. Adrian Peterson ran for 101 yards in the first half, but the Bills tightened up and only allowed him eight yards on eight carries after the break.

Haskins avoided disaster against the Buffalo defense, but was just 15-of-22 for 144 yards and the lack of an ability to move the ball through the air made life very difficult for the offense. They’ll have a bye week to try to sort things out and find a way back to the end zone for the first time since the third quarter of Week Six.

The Bills will hit the road to face the Browns and the Dolphins in the next two weeks. Given their work against losing teams this year, the chances that they’ll be 8-2 after those road trips don’t look too bad.

  1. I was a Redskin fan for many many years but this franchise is so ridiculous its sickening. Nothing against the players but ownership and management truly ruined this once proud franchise. Snyder and his lackeys look like complete fools.

  2. To exactly what question would Haskins-Robbins be an answer? Perhaps, what level of mediocrity could we bring a football team to by drafting a gutless, spineless fraud of a QB and what would his name be?

I swear, there is no difference having an unskilled running back who thinks he can throw and a QB with a broken leg. Right now the Washington Numbskins have to know that Haskins-Robbins is a joke and that their first pick will be to get a QB who played more than one year and has some actual PRO PASSING skills.

Don’t listen to those who say that Adrianna Peederson has what it takes to succeed as an old man as a running back. Clearly every effort this year where he was successful was all in the first half; he totally disappears in the second half. What a complete joke he is – his yards mean nothing more than having a team with triple digit offensive yards. With Haskins-Robbins in the game, you get double digit passing yards only. What was shocking was that the interception machine didn’t throw one. But he threw so little that there were few chances to even make completions.

  3. The Bills have had a cupcake schedule and Allen has been brutal, stay delusional as long as you can.

  4. Haskins number 1 fan Stephen A Smith will be in the air blasting anyone who dared criticize haskins, it’s obviously always someone else’s fault, “the man” is obviously keeping him down. When all else fails, cry racism is Stephen A Smiths motto. He will call the Redskins racist if they dare bench him, he will say that Haskins is a first ballot hall of famer if given a different team. The same garbage as always and his puppet max kellerman will be sucking up in epic fashion to him like always.

Bills show yet again they are very capable…..of beating horrible teams at home. These guys actually do play road games later this season.

The Bills are 3-0 on the road so far this season….

  6. For a guy who’s been practicing since April in this offense and playbook, Haskins looked lost. The defense did what they’ve been doing, underwhelming. Tress Way is the Redskins MVP

Haskins attempted fewer rushes last year than Eli Manning, but who needs to look at analytics when you can look at skin color, right?

  10. Allen hasn’t thrown a pick in 3 weeks. Scored on the ground, air, and led another. Delusional is not recognizing greatness. Hatred boiled over. Poor Joe. They have treatments for that now, you know.

Allen is not that good, he is clearly no Jimmy G

The same Jimmy G that put up 9 points against that same killer Redskin defense? That Jimmy G?

One more favor from you. Come across the border. Do it.

  13. Let’s get one thing straight here for once and all: nobody stifles the Redskins. The Redskins stifle the Redskins, and no one else.

  14. bills are the weakest 6-2 team ever? I mean, they’re not very good. they played one halfway decent team last week, the eagles, and were
    run out of the building.

I guess the pats aren’t good

  15. Haskins didn’t look so bad .. over 8 of his completions were to WRs … how many young and heck even some of the older QBs do nothing but check downs to a RB or have their have a TE for a safety blanket … it takes an arm to get it to WR outside of the hash marks.

  16. This was a pretty good outing for Haskins. Turnover-free QB play always is. His limits did limit the offense, but this is at least an outing to build from while the previous outings were strictly outings to forget. I’ll take it for now.

  18. Say what you want about the Bill’s schedule, but remember, before the season started, all those tewams were tied for first in their division.

And were THE ONLY team to go toe to toe with the #1 team in the NFL… The Patriots. The NFL is and always has been “Any Given Sunday”. The Chiefs lost to the Colts, Who were beaten by the Raiders, Who lost to the Packers, Who were smashed by the Chargers today… They are all pro players and any team can beat another at any point. The Bills may not be the Patriots, but they are 6-2 and earned every win. Quit hating.

Did you check out the weather during the Bills/Eagles? It wasn’t sunny with clear skies. It was cold, raining and 40mph winds. No excuses though, Bills were outcoached and outplayed.
