Harrison Butker hits two field goals in final 2:30 for 26-23 Chiefs victory

Harrison Butker made himself the leading candidate for AFC special teams player of the week with two field goals in the final 2:30, giving the Chiefs a come-from-behind 26-23 victory over the Vikings.

The Patrick Mahomes‘ less Chiefs got 125 rushing yards from Damien Williams, 140 receiving yards from Tyreek Hill, four field goals from Butker and held Dalvin Cook to 71 rushing yards.

It was an all-around team effort without the reigning NFL MVP.

Matt Moore went 25-of-35 for 275 yards and a touchdown in Mahomes’ stead.

After the Chiefs ties the game, the Vikings got the ball back on their own 25 with 2:30 left. They lost 7 yards on three plays, forcing them to punt.

Britton Colquitt‘s punt went only 27 yards to the Minnesota 45, leaving the Chiefs with good field position and 1:47 on the clock.

Williams recovered a fumble by Moore on the first play from scrimmage on a strip-sack by
Stephen Weatherly. But Moore hit Travis Kelce for 17 yards and Hill for 13 yards to set up Butker for his last-second heroics.

The Chiefs now are 6-3, having lost last week without Mahomes. The Vikings entered with a four-game winning streak and now also are 6-3.

Kirk Cousins went 19-for-38 for 220 yards and three touchdowns.

  1. I know the narrative with this game will be all about Cousins but if one of the two fumbles by Moore at the end bounce a different way, the Vikings almost certainly win it.

  2. Too much Matt Moore for that hapless and tasteless Viking defense.

Viking fans will no doubt give Zimmerman another pass on this choke job, and one again lamely try to pin it on the zebras.

  3. Welp… after the best month in the history of the NFL, CFL, AAFL, and XFL, the Viking and their fans can go back to tar and feathering Cousins.

He missed some throws, and some were VERY bad but with 2 minutes left and the ball you want your franchise QB that you paid immensely to make the big plays and get the W. The Chiefs have a good coach, a LOT of offensive playmakers, and its still a tough place to play regardless of how many the road teams fan show up.

Seems like a week ago, Viking fans were bashing GB for only winning by 7 at KC with Moore at the helm.

And if the Hardman fumble goes the other way the Vikings almost certainly lose by 10.

    So?

Good game by the chiefs. Their players were all class on the field today. And Chiefs fans are great fans!

Unlike the classless vikings fans. They deserve all they get.

Stefanski could have called a better game at the end of the game.

Rob, it’s good to see you on the boards after a loss. Typically you’ll disappear for a few days and then just blame the refs. It’s a nice switch!

  7. This was the worst play calling I have seen from the Vikings staff yet. Offensively and defensively terrible play calls all game. It doesn’t help that Cousins looked like a back up. The chiefs played really well. 6-3 is still a decent record going forward. It could be worse, the Vikings could have the bears record.

  8. Vikings, Zimmer, Cousins and Viking’s defense on the big stage come up small again. Viking’s D could not slow down a high school football coach and cousins could not get a first down to keep the ball away from the high school football coach.

So… it’s a close game that goes the other way and it’s not like Packer troll Christmas around here.

  11. “Well we managed to win another one with Matt Moore at QB, and what can I say except it’s a great credit to our team. Sure be glad when Patrick can play again.”

    Still waiting

  13. tokyosandblaster quote: “Did the Vikings give up 400 yards of offense and the longest run in this NFL season to a Matt Moore led offense?”
    Why yes..yes they did.

  14. With receivers kike Kelce Hill and Watkins good put Trubisky in there and people would be calling him a top 10 QB

  15. I was confident if Moore played at least as well as he did last week, the Chiefs could win (they did.) This had all the earmarks of a big game for both teams (it was.) The Vikings defense has a wincing reputation for coming up small in big games (they did.)

  16. wib22 quote: “Vikings will be one and done come playoff time”

There yougo wib22, fixed it for ya!

  17. Where is conormacleod? Was spouting all kinds of stats Thursday about why Vikes would win. One stat he missed…Vikes havent won in KC 45 years. In the words of Earl Campbell, Skol Brotha (for those of you old enough to remember his commercial).

  18. Wow. AS usual. 55000 posts by ahole Packer Fans gloating and taunting cuz they have nothing else to do.

How many passing TDs did Moore have against the Packers?

OH yeah. Two. And 267 yards. Almost the same as against the Vikings but More touchdowns.

    So PLEASE shut up.

You needed a miracle Roger’s blind heave to win. Cousins played better against that D than Rogers did.

  19. Christmas is nearly two months away yet. At that point will the Vikings be playing meaningful football? I don’t know.

After struggling with Haskins and then losing to Moore, with teams not playing their backups these next few weeks, Vikings fans should really question the abilities of their football team.

  20. Not a very good game plan by the Vikings. The green and yellows sure are happy, you know the packers are playing while you are posting. pack fan would rather see the Vikings lose than their team win.

  21. Vikings fans troll Packers for all week for not beating Mahomes-less Chiefs more convincingly. Then Vikings fail to beat same team.

They then declare it “Packer troll Christmas”, talking about unpredictable bouncing balls. Don’t worry guys, only 23 games left (guaranteed!).

  22. I’m here Packer losers. No question, the Vikings offensive line was disappointing. But right now I’m focusing on the Packers getting man handled by a 3-5 team.

Looks like Vikes will still be 1 game back in the division at the end of the day, with 7 to go. A long season is still 16 games. Let’s talk December 24.

  23. I’m watching the game and posting at the same time during the breaks between plays. The Packers need to step it up here.

At least they have a little breathing room since the Vikings lost to a third string QB.

  24. I could care less that the usual GB trolls are glowing. If someone would have told me after the Bears game Minnesota would be 6-3 after nine, I wouldn’t have believed it. Hate the loss (and shank) but happy there are seven to go. It ain’t clove to being over. #SKOL

    Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

We can walk and chew gum at the same time.

How old did you say you were?

  26. lol. So much for Cousins going on a hot streak…once again showing he earned his big paycheck against losing teams, yet losing against teams with losing records…even with their backup QBs.

  30. If the Cowboys win their division, I can see the vikings beating them in jerryworld. Yes, cousins is bad in big games, but hes still a pretty good qb. He’s alot better than dink and dak. dak is a bottom tier qb.

  31. if this the best the NFC has for superbowl contenders. Yikes. two weeks in a row the Chiefs went toe to toe missing 6 starters plus their MVP. Full strength and this would have been a blow out.

I can only speak for myself but I wouldn’t have had a problem with him being cut after the pictures came out…and I never wore his jersey again after it.

  36. The Chargers are are beating the Cheating Packers, 9-0 at the half. If the Packers double up on their 1st half yards they will hit triple digits!

  37. Mike Zimmer couldn’t win a road game against an average squad? NO WAY.

Yes I know he beat the Packers. He’s a limited head coach, married to a limited QB, and running out of time.

Idk how close you pay attention to other teams outside of the NFC north, but I had figured the Chsrgers would play harder/inspired/motivated after their OC got fired after a win.

Mike Zimmer couldn’t win a road game against an average squad? NO WAY.

Yes I know he beat the Packers.

you’re correct. He was not even beating an average squad against the Packers (everyone was doing it). Zimmer needs to step up his road game.

  40. Good game Chiefs, no excuses in this one. Cousins for the most part reverted back to pre Chicago game form. He overthrew so many guys today that would have either been big first downs, or touchdowns. He even tried to over throw Abdullah on his TD catch.

The secondary forgot how to tackle. Rhodes was his typical liability self. No look Waynes always gives up big plays. Bradbury had a couple costly penalties that brought back big plays. Pretty sloppy play today by the Vikes. Clean it up or it will be a long rest of the season.

  41. I am not a Packer fan conor. You dont have to be to point out the truth about the Vikes. Try again sparky.

  42. hometownzero…. really?? You’re actually calling Minneapolis/St Paul a second class city? Have you taken a look around that hell hole you call home? Try sticking to football.

  43. Vikings go 2-6 the rest of the way …. They have too many good teams left …. And the last 4 games were against subpar teams where cousins plays over his head !!!!
if Speilman isn’t fired for Hand stringy the vikings too cousins like this then the problem has too be laid at the feet of the owners,Zimmer has done a decent job but has surely shown the last 2 yrs he can not manage both the defense and the offense he puts too much on the Coordinators. Time for a complete house cleaning !! Trade rhodless, waynes and barr. We need corners that can cover without getting beaten or PI’s..And lb’s who can cover and are quick.. and a QB who knows were the first down marker is and isn’t scared to put his head down and go for it …….

  44. Zimmer lost the game today. Pure and simple. Should have been blitzing getting off of the bus to nullify the downfield plays. The last play after a timeout, before the kick just laying off and handing the Chiefs 10 yards is unacceptable. The lack of aggressiveness offensively has also cost Zimmer teams a lot of road wins and it showed up again today. The team doesn’t play good conservatively on the road. The defense is built to play downhill period.

  45. Defense let the Vikings down today. 2 & 17 Moore is fumbling looking like he is ready to crack and they drop into coverage and have Alexander 1 on 1 with Kelce for 13 yards. Brutal as bad as the refs today.

Did the Packers have a combined total offense of 206 yards (161 passing yards and 45 rushing) on their way to a 26-11 pasting by the 17th place 3-5-0 Chargers today? Aaron Rodgers looked OLD… SPENT… WORN… USED UP out there today.

Oof. That was a bad loss to the Chargers for my squad. At least it wasn’t to a third string QB!
    ———————————

When did Phillip Rivers start playing defense?

  49. Clicked on a thread about the Chiefs kicker and found out that it was all about Vikes and Packers fans arguing over who has the biggest whatever. Just LOL. Chiefs won. That’s what matters!

  50. I don’t usually check PFT on Sundays because I’m watching football and spending time with my family, so it’s kind of fun to read all the comments the next day. Packer fans talking smack while their team is getting embarrassed. My team played really bad all around and still almost pulled out a win against a quality opponent. Their team played really bad all around and get absolutely destroyed by a bad team. This will not humble them.
