Bill Belichick: The Ravens were better

Patriots coach Bill Belichick wasn’t in a mood to talk much after Sunday night’s 37-20 loss to the Ravens, but he did make it clear that his team got outplayed.

“Give them credit, they were better than we were tonight,” Belichick said, via Boston.com. “Certainly the better team.”

Belichick declined to go into any details about specifically went wrong, asking, “Did you see the game tonight?” to one reporter who asked a question.

“There’s really not much to say tonight,” Belichick said. “Obviously we didn’t do anything well enough to deserve to win.”

Belichick wouldn’t answer when asked if he was concerned about what would happen if the teams meet again in the playoffs.

“I don’t know. Right now they’re not on our schedule, so I’m not really worried about that,” Belichick said.

The Patriots and Ravens can’t be on the schedule again until January. If they are, Sunday night’s game was the first game this season that suggested the Patriots might not have such a clear path to the Super Bowl.

  1. I don’t know why people still keep asking Belichick about the future when he never focuses more than who they are playing next week. That’s how he rolls.

  2. Bill says: Even after we clearly fumbled the ball, the refs gave it back to us. The Ravens did the same thing and we got the ball back. Thanks refs, bribe is paid. We stink.

  3. The Patriot fan in the cubicle next to me this morning tried to say Belichick likes to let players and teams like this think they can beat him in the regular season so they’re ripe to be beat in the postseason.

I was like nah, you don’t get to play the, “Oh we meant to lose” card here.

  4. Probably the best thing for this team, we all remember the hype and pressure of the undefeated season and how it turned out. Not a Pats fan but wouldn’t be surprised if this just motivated them to play better like Bill always coaches them to do.

  5. playing vs two teams coming off bye week in a row took its toll the pats looked sluggish. hats off to the ravens they had 2weeks and they were ready .

  6. Oh yeah, Billy B is the very definition of obnoxious:

“highly objectionable or offensive; odious: obnoxious behavior. annoying or objectionable due to being a showoff or attracting undue attention to oneself”

May as well ask a brick wall questions. Most obnoxious coach in the league.

  7. Honestly, why does he even have a press conference.
    Reporter: why did you lose?
BB: the other team scored more points.
Reporter: Did they have a scheme you were unprepared for?
    BB: No.
Reporter: is there anything more you’d like to add?
    BB: No.

  8. If Belichick saw how his fans acted at last night’s game, he’d probably be happy to lose. Anyone would.

Were you at the game? I have not heard anything about the Pats fans. Did I miss something?

Yes. And they were awful. Made Steelers’ fans look GOOD.

  11. One thing that was learned about the Raven’s defense in this game: when the Pats went really up-tempo,they were gassed. It doesn’t matter, though, when you turn the ball over and let them get off of the field. It’s too bad because the Pats were in striking distance.

  12. The best part of watching that game was seeing Belichick clearly lost. You could tell he had no answer.

  13. This is a learning experience for the Pats. That Baltimore offense is new this year and is not ordinary. Now that the Pats have played against it, if they meet in the playoffs, it will not be the same game. The Pats will apply this experience to their game planning.

I think BB was going vanilla for a reason. A lot the scheme didn’t make sense.

I am glad Baltimore enjoyed their November SB.

Yeah, yeah, he was TRYING to lose… that’s the ticket!
Dude my favorite post of all time was yours in the other thread where you were bragging about how the Pats “dominated the 2nd quarter”… this is obviously killing you, which is delightful for most of us to behold.

  15. The only one who “went vanilla” was the big mouth Pats’ fan who shame-ate a gallon of ice cream to ease the pain of seeing his team getting clown-stomped.

  16. We all know Bill usually adjusts well as a game, and season, go on. But the Ravens have a good staff too, despite what a couple (not all) pathetic Pats fans think, so don’t expect them to merely blindly repeat what they did before.

And who knows what further personnel changes may have occurred by then.

Any rematch could be just as fascinating.
