Tom Brady: We obviously have a lot of work to do

The Patriots took their first loss of the season in Baltimore on Sunday night and falling into a 17-0 hole in the first half had a lot to do with why they wound up losing 37-20.

Baltimore’s early offensive success was a bit of a surprise given how good New England’s defense had been over the first eight weeks of the season and the Patriots weren’t able to answer back in the early part of the game. Tom Brady didn’t complete a pass as the team gained four yards in the first quarter and comeback hopes were dashed by a pair of turnovers in the second half of the game.

“Losses always find a way to recalibrate how you see yourself,” Brady said after the game. “We obviously have a lot of work to do. Tonight, obviously wasn’t good enough. When you get beat by 17 points, that’s not what we’re all about. Give the Ravens credit, they played really well. They took advantage of their opportunities and that is what it takes.”

Questions lingered about whether the Patriots offense has enough juice while they were opening the year with eight straight wins. They won’t be going away after Sunday night’s performance and the team now has a bye week to try to get on a better track.

  1. This is what it’s like to play a team coming off a bye week patriot fans. I know it’s new to your patriots, but it’s about time they start doing this in the schedule.

  2. “Baltimore’s early offensive success was a bit of a surprise given how good New England’s defense had been over the first eight weeks of the season…”

I think you meant to say “given how easy their schedule had been over the first eight weeks of the season.”

Been saying it all year, they haven’t played ANYONE. The teams they beat have a combined record of 18-47!! Their “toughest” opponent was the Bills and they only won by 6 points. Come on people, this isn’t hard to realize.

  3. It felt like Jackson could have thrown a loaf of bread for a completion. They executed flawlessly early, and other than a stalled drive and two bad turnovers it would have been a complete destruction. I’m not going to read too much into it. Probably as TB12 says, a good chance to reset. The offensive line is still offensive, hopefully Isaiah Wynn comes back. And we need to find a fullback. Watson looks better and Sanu was really good last night.

  4. Both Chiefs wins, the Chargers win, maybe the Super Bowl, and probably a couple more wins from the end of the season last year are losses with a running game like they have this year. Gotta fix that and/or get healthy.

  5. As a Eagles fan I was hoping to not be the “recalibrate” team but if DeSean is able to actually run some plays we might cover.

  6. Will Belichck have the guts to bench the old man like he did Bledsoe? he has played 2 good defenses this year (ravens and Bills) and did not look good either time….

  7. Two teams in a row coming off bye weeks after a thrusday nighter the pats were tired and it showed! perfect time for the bye week to get rest and be ready for the playoff run its on too the eagles.

  8. Well that should put an end to comparisons with the 85 Bears. The d feasted on a series of poor qbs. Life is tougher outside the afc least.

  9. The chest beating Patriots fans always have excuses. They have statistics all ready for you when you claim the AFC Least thing, with injuries they do the the “next man up” thing when it serves up a win, etc. Bottom line… you played no one. The Bills are barely an 8-8 team and that was your only competitive game this year.

  10. A lot of work to do? It’s one loss. One. And it took 9 weeks to get there. Chill.

  11. Been saying it all year, they haven’t played ANYONE. The teams they beat have a combined record of 18-47!! Their “toughest” opponent was the Bills and they only won by 6 points. Come on people, this isn’t hard to realize.

Who they have played prior to this game was meaningless
It has zero effect on how they played the Ravens or who they will play the next week

At stop acting like the Ravens have played some tough schedule
They have TWO wins vs teams with winning records
And FOUR of there six wins are vs teams with a losing record

Oh and they were blown out by the 2 win Browns at home.

  12. Bill B’s perfect situation:

Get dummied headed into a bye week with an absolute avalanche of game film showing mistakes on both sides of the ball.

Strangely, this might have been the perfect result for the Pats……..

Patriots will come back to win and all the people saying after 1 quarter “This is what happens when they play a REAL TEAM” will walk it back and say “Wait till they play the chiefs”

    @@@@@@@@@@@@@

    Love the classics

  14. Kansas last year, Baltimore this year. As much as I love the Patriots getting beat the Patriots have eyes on the main event. Playing the Jackson plays is to unpredictable although entertaining.

  15. The vaunted Patriots best defence of all time didnt look so dominating when they had to play a team not using a highschool quarterback and playbook.

A shame the Patriots cant play the Skins, Jets and Dolphins every week.

Sure could of used AB or Gordon yesterday…..

    Exposed.

Again the “exposed “ comment so dumb

Does that mean the 2-6 Browns “exposed” the ravens when they blew them out at home?

  17. I saw a Unicorn during last night’s game!!!! I could barely believe my eyes!!!

Out of the blue, on a PASS play the Pats Oline got flagged for a holding penalty!! My mind is still blown!!!!! I still think it was a dream. An actual penalty on the O-line during a pass!! A Unicorn siting!!!

Man oh man, as the years go by, I will reminisce about that 1 single time the refs grew a pair and actually flagged the O-line for the choke holds they get away with every game.

Brady has simply got to allow people into the Circle of Trust and skipping OTAs.
    ———————————-

Not blaming the refs this post? Thankfully nobody takes your posts seriously. Maybe that defense you have been boasting about should have played better just like the rest of the team.

  19. The number of obnoxious fans screaming BRADY TIME into everyone’s ears last night would be enough to convince No. 12 that it’s not worth it. They are not worth winning for.

    Brady was seeing GHOSTS!!!!

  21. Pats deserve benefit of the doubt. There is no denying this team flows through great coaching, cheating and extremely well played quarterbacking. But the schedule is a joke as is their division. They coast knowing their AFC east rivals are not even close to competitive. There is no pushback, no worries till the playoffs, were they always have a bye and thus extra time to prepare due to their sad division opponents. Great, team, great, coach, great QB and great at pushing the limits of fair play, but the also have hade it very easy for very, very long

    ————————–

Wow fake Pats fan poster- maybe learn what OTA’s are already before posting the same nonsense.

Considering he threw to Sanu, Edelman, White, Michel, Dorsett and Watson who else could he possibly throw to? Watson an Sanu weren’t even on the team yet, guess they should be blamed for skipping OTA’s too!

Watson dropped a critical pass for 1st down, and Michel can’t catch at all and Bill benched him.

6 guys routinely get thrown to- maybe he should throw to the Punter or the guys on IR? Brady ain’t the problem.

  23. Some of us saw this disaster coming immediately following the Cleveland game.

The Achilles Heal in the Patriots Defense was exposed when the Browns Chubb ran all over the Pats.

The Ravens have a much faster set of RBs including Lamar that Belichick did not prepare the Team for. This was blaringly evident in the 1st Quarter and had it not been for the early turn over by the Ravens, the game would of been a blow-out by the end of the 1st Half.

Better to find this out now then come playoffs.

  24. The Ravens defense was physically man handling the Patriots offensive players. Especially early on in the game. The Ravens defense set the tone. I couldn’t tell you how many Patriots offensive players I watched who were driven face first into the field the first few series of the game. And it was not only the guys with the ball. There were Pats offensive lineman who were getting cut at the waist by one Ravens defender and driven face first into the field by another. The Ravens defense went old school in this one.

  25. The Ravens came to play. A fumble 6 from JE and the pick from Brady really put the game out of reach. But overall they are 8-1. So it’s on to Philadelphia.

  26. Surprised the ravens held on looked like they were out of steam defensively and offensively at the start of the second half. Patriots D got exposed before they even faced a good QB, Wentz, Deshaun, and Mahomes in three of the next 4 games will be very interesting.

What are you talking about. You think the Patriots never play teams coming off their bye week? How about you take a look at teh schedule coming up and see how many teams they are playing coming off their bye weeks?

  28. This is what it’s like playing a team with a win percentage above 0.200, patriots fan.

If it wasn’t for a gift special teams fumble by a guy who shouldn’t be in the NFL, this game could’ve been more like 30-6.

  29. Let’s talk exposed.
The Chiefs exposed the Ravens D, then the Browns also followed suit but were also given a gift because Brandon Williams was hurt. Eric De Costa immediately hit the market and picked up a couple guys on D, Williams got healthy and they have been solid ever since.
The Ravens just exposed the Pats D. But no one has the offense the Ravens do, so it is likely that they will be okay, until we meet again. The Pats D has been exposed all year.

  30. It was a 4 point game through 3 quarters despite Edelman’s horrid fumble.

The Pats has three meaningful drives in the second half. One ended with Edelman’s fumble, another was a TD and the other was the pick on 3rd and 10 which was more or less the same as a punt (minus a good INT return).

The Ravens put together 2 drives in the second half that used up almost 18 minutes. That’s 60% of the entire half on 2 drives! If you let an opponent eat clock like that and score TDs twice in the final stages of a close game, you’re going to lose.
