Kyle Allen to Cam Newton: “Thank you for setting the example”

There is no quarterback controversy in Carolina between the two men in the middle of it.

After news broke that Cam Newton has been placed on injured reserve, Kyle Allen posted on Instagram an image of the two of them hugging, and wrote a message about how much Newton has meant to him and to the Panthers.

“I watched this man do everything in his power to come back from his injury,” Allen wrote. “I watched him lead and be a great teammate day in day out. ⁣Thank you for setting the example. We got you.”

In the offseason, the Panthers will have some tough decisions to make about whether Newton or Allen is their quarterback for 2020 and beyond. For now, Allen has felt nothing but support from Newton.

  1. Cam needs to kick the vegan diet that is responsible for his slow recovery. If he charges his batteries correctly, he’ll be a beast when/if he returns.

  2. This must be a joke right? Mr. Dab, Mr. First down, don’t dive on a ball, take TD balls out of teammates hands to make it about himself even when it wasn’t about himself….set an example? Oh yeah, I guess he did. What not to do-

  3. Newton’s legacy will forever be backing away from a fumble in the Super Bowl. If that is the “Leadership” example Allen is following, then best of luck Carolina….

  4. One man’s misfortune is another man’s opportunity.
With a healthy Cam, this team is a true contender.
With a confident Kyle…are they playoff bound?

Right, because that’s the only time all week they interact. Not in the QB room, not at practice, not after hours, etc.

And I seriously DOUBT you’ve watched a single Panthers game.

  6. If the Panthers don’t bring him back, I can see him retiring early. It’s hard to imagine Cam’s ego ever allowing him to slowly fade out of the league or to accept a backup role.

  7. This is a direct reflection of their relationship. No middleman, but then you got folks on here who question the man’s reflection of their relationship because it doesn’t fit what they perceive Cam to be. Quit saying that the media pushes a narrative when all one has to do is come to a website like this and see that even if you report the truth, folks will still only believe and think what they have already wanted to believe. SMH. Good Luck to both men going forward.

  8. The decision this offseason is easy, the only hard part is “who to trade Cam to before the draft?”

Why so many thumbs down? As a physical therapist and certified nutritionist, kegpack is not wrong. There is something to be said for veganism and long term health, but it is absolutely without question slowing his injury recovery.

Right. People are such fools. They believe their lying eyes and ears, and they remember Cam’s repeated, habitual, and deliberately offensive behavior over his entire career. It’s so sad, sigh. If only they would know and embrace the truth you espouse, Cam would finally get a fair shake.

  11. I don’t think I could ever take him seriously as a coach talking to him with that crazy hairdo he’s got these days. It’s like an Anime style Krusty the Clown with big funky spikes that go out in all directions.

Pretty clear that he just doesn’t really care anymore. He is a distracting clown.

  12. Lol some of you guys in the comment section have such an agenda and it shows. Despite all the headaches he’s created on the field and at the podium, Cam seems like a solid dude that made some mistakes in his past. Just move on already, boomers

    Of what not to do…

    For Mahomes, Murray, Watson, Jackson…
    ============================

Mahomes/Murray and Watson are all far more gifted passers and much more accurate than Newton was. Newton had a rocket for arm but was very inaccurate throughout his career. Kyler Murray also protects himself much better than Cam Newton, Murray is very aware that he’s 5″10-210pds and doesn’t seek out contact & protects himself better than any dual threat QB i’ve seen since Russell Wilson.

Newton has a ton of athletic ability when healthy, there’s no doubt about that. What you describe right here is what most people outside of the Carlolina’s think about Cam Newton. He has always made it about himself. That’s not a good example to set.

It’s an act. Having gone to auburn with Cam, I can vouch that he’s one of the nicest guys I’ve ever met. Not that I *knew* him, but around campus he would take time to greet each and every individual student who said hi to him.

Even more coincidentally, one of his strength coaches at auburn is currently a physical therapy client at my practice. Apparently during college, Cam was not only was he part of the Big Brother program, but he took time to tutor kids at a local elementary school three days a week.

I know my evidence is totally anecdotal, and it’s ok if you don’t believe me. My point is that being a “showman” and a “class clown” isn’t a personality, it’s an affectation. Wearing ridiculous outfits to press conferences isn’t necessarily an indicator of how someone behaves in their private life or around the practice facility.

  16. Unneeded kudos to a QB who cheated in college, who wouldn’t fall on a fumble, and whines when he is hit when he is a running back wearing a QB Halloween costume.

Kyle is already a better QB than Cam Cheating. Running means nothing in that position. It is winning – and Kyle has done it with precious little preparation.

Now the only consideration I’ll give for this kudos is when Kyle opens the door for Cam Cheating and then closes the door like a gentleman instead of slamminng it like I would.

  17. He’s done in Carolina…and here are some fun facts…

ANDY DALTON last 43 games…64 TD 31 INT 10,092 pass yards 62.2% pass comp
CAM NEWTON last 46 games….65 TD 43 INT 10,206 pass yards 59.9% pass comp..

I always hear these talking heads talk about Cam and superman blah blah blah…. fact is he’s not as good as dalton and has had way more talent surround him…

if yall dont believe it look no farther than mr arian foster. dude was a beast when he was eating meat. He went vegan and couldnt stay on the field due to injuries….especially soft tissue injuries (not a dr but i believe that is what they are called)

  19. He is talking like he is sure he will be the starter from this point forward, but he should realize that he is only as good as his last start in this league of what have you done for us lately.

  20. Love this. Now, if only Aaron Rodgers had been this classy under Brett Favre as he assumed starting QB duties. All these years later, Rodgers still shows the me-me-me colors, with no respect except for himself. Allen, you’re doing it right, and class wins on and off the field every time.

  21. It’s somewhat insane to see the lengths people go to in order to bash Cam. His teammates have always loved and said positive things about him. The narrative of him being ME first is honestly nothing more than disdain for him because he has an outsized personality, is confident and people gravitate toward him. Has nothing to do with ball.

  22. Being Vegan is no different than when mullets were in style, people are just doing it to be vogue. I’m sure there are benefits but why do these people explicitly go out of their way to say they are Vegan, because they wanna look trendy and popular. Eating too much of one food group is not healthy. Just like anything in life its all about balance and moderation. We all know protein is essential for muscle recovery, suppose you just could eat a few eggs, peanut butter but every one in a while the primal urge comes out for a 12 ounce rib-eye medium rare.

  23. This is a non story. In exactly one year from now, the panthers will be scouting for one of the top QBs in the draft because this guy turned out to be a dud and they would have gotten rid of their franchise QB. They are gonna run McCaffery into the ground and have nothing to show for it. SMH

  24. Hmmm Cam won’t wanna be a backup, or go to a team in rebuild. So what goood/decent teams are in search of the missing QB, or will see their QB retire sooner than later?

    Patriots
    Chargers
    Browns
    Steelers

That’s my short list. Maybe throw Chicago on there. But imagine if he replaces Brady, and has coach Bill getting the most of his talent? How many of you will still be making jokes?

Beware of Cam. He could still have another 10 years in this league
