Aaron Rodgers hints that lack of rest was the issue in L.A.

After Sunday’s shocking loss to the Chargers in Los Angeles, Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers used his post-game press conference to express his displeasure with the result — and presumably to send a message to one or more members of the organization.

“We’ve got to be honest with our routine and the decisions we made in the last 48 hours, and make sure that our head is in the right place the next time we come on a big road trip,” Rodgers said at the time.

On Wednesday, Rodgers was asked by reporters to elaborate on those remarks.

“I just think that, you know, every time you go on a trip, we say it’s a business trip,” Rodgers said. “Our job is to go out and win games. I was basically saying all of us, we’ve gotta look at our schedule, our routine, what we did, and make sure we were getting the proper rest and taking care of ourselves the right way. Because it was such a different feeling, we just didn’t have that normal juice. I just felt like maybe we’ve got to rest more. Guys on their day off or whatever. We just look at what we did on those two days and make sure that we’re feeling super-energetic on game day. I’m not calling anybody specifically out, I was just saying there was obviously something that threw us off a little bit energetically. We’ve just got to fix that before our next trip.”

Rodgers twice mentioned the word “rest.” And while he said he’s not “calling anybody specifically out,” Rodgers never says anything accidentally. By using the word “rest” not once but twice, Rodgers is making his specific concerns clear: His teammates weren’t sufficiently rested.

Rodgers’ explanation also bolsters speculation that maybe more than a few Packers players enjoyed a night out in L.A. after the team arrived on Friday, keeping them from getting the sleep and rest needed to be as energetic as they needed to be come Sunday.

Whatever it was, they need to get it figured out, because they’re going back to California in two weeks, to play the 49ers.

  1. The new and very young coaches need the kind of assessment only a veteran playmaker can provide. Rodgers is doing the entire team a favor by handling the communication of this loss tactfully when speaking publicly. He’s telling it like it is. Behind the scenes, it’s probably a little more direct, and it should be. LaFleur and Rodgers are a great match for each other. From Day One it’s been two steps forward, one step back. It can’t be all bad, after all, the Vikings are still choking on Packer dust somewhere behind them. At this point in the season, you couldn’t ask for more. Keep it up Green Bay.

  2. So, your team was sleepy. That’s why you lost so handily? Ok. Oh, and Aaron, what’s with the guys holding a cover over you on the sideline? Was that a sunshade or a wake up shade?

  3. It’ll be interesting to see how the team responds and how coach LaFleur gets his team right. It’ll be a tough one.

  4. More excuses… how about the standard, ‘we gotta play better’…
Then handle the rest personally. No need in starting gossip. But then again, that seems like Aaron’s modus operandi. Some find it funny or clever. I find it annoying. Just say what needs to be said. Directly to the person or people.

  5. Not a problem for any other team that played at the Chargers this year… but I guess those teams are coming from cities that have other establishments to go to other than Applebee’s and Culvers.

  6. “He’s never been a leader”

    =========

And as a teammate of his you would know this right?

I think your mom is calling you up from the basement. Time for a break from PFT little guy.👌

An extra hour of rest, due to the time change, was a problem?

You lose an hour in the spring, not the fall…

  8. Ok. So why did he suck? Again, he ever takes the blame. “We”. “Guys”. Never, “I”, “me”. He’s never been a leader.
    —–
And if anyone know about leadership qualities in a QB it’s a Viking fan.

Here’s a hint: Leadership isn’t apologizing to your whiney diva receivers everytime they throw a tantrum.

  9. Once again he is blaming someone else. Whining rhymes with winning, but they’re not the same Aaron. After football he could start a bus company and throw people under it.

  10. They should bring some Packer fans next trip. They’ll be able to show the players how to properly sit on a couch all day to be sure they are rested.
    ——
How’d your team do last week? Lost to a back up I hear. Wouldn’t be talking if it was me, but then I have some self awareness, which you guys clearly don’t.

  11. Maybe daylight saving time had an effect on them. You know you have an extra hour to sleep so you stay up an hour later, but then you feel like you stayed up an hour later and got up an hour later. It throws off your routine and everything just feels off all day. Of course, that would go for both teams.

  12. Hey viking fan no matter how spin this fact remains Green Bay 7-2 Vikings 6-3 ,, Green bay 21- Vikings 16 week 2..

SKOAL THIS IS NOT FAKE NEWS

  13. Aaron Rogers is no leader. All the talent in the world but no ability to lead. This conversation should of happened behind closed doors not spouted out to the media
    ——
I love how haters just assume they know things. You don’t have a clue what conversations took place face to face.

  14. Passive aggressive again and blaming others for the woes. Newsflash: you looked pretty lousy against the Chargers.

Ooohhh……poor Viking troll. He needs insults and putdowns to create relevancy for his comes-up-small-in-big-games “vaunted” defense. When debate is lost, ridicule becomes the tool of the loser.

By the way……traveling Packer fans outnumbered locals 3-1. The Vikings can only dream of support like that. The successes and memories for Packer fans is the hope and dreams of Viking fans. Keep wishing, hoping, and praying Viking fans. Your grandkids might benefit from the effort.

  17. Well blame the stupid management team that includes your Head Coach who figured it was a good idea to fly out there so late instead of getting the team out there earlier in the week, and that way there couldn’t be any excuses come Sunday

  18. I’m actually surprised that Florio didn’t pick up on the snowball fight Aaron got into at practice yesterday.

Obvious signs of “friction” in Green Bay.

“Aaron twice mentioned the word “rest”

    Get over him Florio.👍

  19. Okay,Mr. Passive-Aggressive. Why not just address your issue with these guys directly? That’s what a REAL team leader would do…not drop snarky comments to the media about it.

  20. Great team management. Can’t they control their players so they get the proper rest. Hope this comes back to bite them in the butt with the playoff rankings.

  21. I was just saying there was obviously something that threw us off a little bit energetically. We’ve just got to fix that before our next trip
    —-
it called the other team being way better thus the huge blowout. Sometimes it can be masked. last week was not one of those times. and while it can be masked it can’t be fixed in season. unless Rodgers is planning on tucking in all the players and coaches so they can get their rest. LOL

Because more than half of your fan base has never been to Wisconsin, seen a cow or and ear of corn. They travel well…..pffffttttt….. they are called Band Wagon fans boi. It happened after the 96 Super Bowl! No Packers fans here in the heart of Bear Country then suddenly over night here comes all the Packers fans. The most entitled elitist fans base in the NFL! Every debate they have is “How many Championships your team won/” YES YES we all know tis 13 but you are probably only around for two of them. 70% couldn’t even tell you who Raymond Nitschke or Tony Mandarich were without the help of Google. Or the best line…..I’ve been a fan since I was a kid, yeah well I remember you wearing Dolphins swag in our grade school picture because why?????? lmao lmao Cheeseheads No real mascot and no cheerleaders. _________

I never have a clue what you are talking about, you ignore facts and obvious truths almost as bad as ariana.

I’m quite confident all of this team’s shortcomings, from last Sunday, have been dealt with sufficiently behind closed doors.
First year coach, Matt LaFleur, has probably learned a few things about how to handle a roster full of young players on a West Coast road trip.
And currently this team’s focus is squarely on the Panthers and Mr. McCaffrey.

As for Aaron Rodgers’ leadership skills and ability to take ownership of his own failures, besides using all the inclusive and collective terms we, we’ve, and our, he speaks directly of himself in a quote immediately following the game:

“This was a good learning experience for us. I don’t think we were locked in from the start unfortunately. the focus wasn’t there from the start. We have to look in the mirror and be honest with our performance, MYSELF INCLUDED.”

Listen, I get it, you’re just a miserable Hater when it comes to a great QB like Aaron Rodgers.
How can I blame you, he’s created so much misery for your favorite team and yourself, as a fan, included.
But seriously, find another axe to grind with him.

You simply can’t put up the kind of numbers he has over the years, or amassed the amount of wins and overall success he’s enjoyed without being a great leader.
Especially since your fan base so frequently points out the lack of talent GB has provided it’s roster over the years.
    He must be truly special.

  25. Aaron Rodgers putting a lid on the lackluster performance:

“You just have to move on. Like I said after the game, it was important for us to be very critical. I don’t think it helps to just brush it under the rug as they say. I think it’s important to correct the correctable things and then move forward positively and learn from the mistakes and set your eyes on the next performance.”

Get a big W against Carolina and the haters will be back to crying about how the Packers are the most loved son of the NFL.😉

  26. lmao lmao Cheeseheads No real mascot and no cheerleaders. What kinda organization is that?

i thought they had a mascot. its called eating cheese. their mascot is the act of eating cheese

  27. A-Rod just seems like a stuck up prick, really. His commercials are designed to make him look funny, but instead, he just acts arrogant. He fights with his family. He blames other people for his problems.

Dude. You’re 100% of the offense. Period. The ball touches your hand on literally every offensive play. You have 2 amazing dual-threat backs, like 5 receivers that can catch on-demand and you can scramble if you’re rushed. What is the problem?

Don’t get me wrong. Even though I don’t like Rodgers, he’s a damn good QB. One of the few I would want on my team in a 2 minute drill to take it all, but lack of sleep or preparation or whatever he’s saying is garbage. It starts and ends with him on offense. Even the coach doesn’t have as much power as he does on the field when he’s playing. He has to get it done.

  28. There are some recent updates on the Vikings if some of you would like to comment on a relevant story. I don’t think commenting about Rodgers in a Rodgers update isn’t called for. This story shows Rodgers throwing his teammates under the bus, again. That’s a fact. The Vikings losing to KC doesn’t change that.

Seriously, you call people who cheer for a team for over 20 years bandwagon jumpers?
Bandwagon jumpers are fans who get on board when things are good, and then cheer for someone else when they are bad. As a Bears fan you should be well-acquainted with them. Look at how much support your team is getting at mid-season vs. week 1.

Maybe a lot of Packers’ fans are bandwagon jumpers, its just hard to tell since there hasn’t really been more than a couple of seasons in the last 25 years where the Packers haven’t been good. There’s hardly been any time for any of them to get off the bandwagon.

Pitiful. Especially as a fan from such a storied and respected franchise.

When you graduate from elementary school, you will realize that whining and winning don’t rhyme.

  31. Wow. Another year and another Packer fan designation as the best traveling fans in the league, driving up prices higher than any other franchise. This is why the NFL does not want the Packers playing in London, even though it would assuredly be a record-setting sell-out. Road game opponents cheer when they see the Packers on theIr schedules. Even the Vikings make you buy two games to dissuade single-game Packer fans from taking over US Birdkiller Stadium. There are more Packer fans per capital in Minnesota than anywhere outside Wisconsin. If it’s a bandwagon, come on, jump on. Get on board for No. 14.

  32. Oh my Lord. Can you imagine the sheer volume of ineffective and desperate insults and putdowns that will bombard Packer stories when the hopes and dreams of Viking fans are extinguished once again? I, for one, am enjoying the desperation being shown by frustrated Viking trolls……immensely. I do feel for their families though. Can you imagine living with these pissants, and the holidays coming soon? Ugghh.

Big deal! It’s the same way with every team that plays the Chargers. Meanwhile, you must have missed the shots of the crowd in Kansas City where literally half the stadium was wearing purple and doing the skol chant.

  34. Wow packer fans are sensitive to the slightest amount of criticism, soft and fragile just like their QB. Must be pretty sad living that way gasping on every little amount of information about the packers and constantly crying about the Vikings. You’re team is overrated and obviously your rookie head coach didn’t get his players ready to play. Its just that simple. You’ll be one and done in the playoffs as you should be.
