Brian Hoyer to start as Colts rule out Jacoby Brissett

The Colts will be without quarterback Jacoby Brissett on Sunday.

Brissett was ruled out today, the Colts announced. That means Brian Hoyer will start on Sunday against the Dolphins. Chad Kelly, who was just called up from the practice squad to the active roster, will back up Hoyer.

The Colts lost Andrew Luck to a surprise retirement in the offseason, but Brissett took over and played well, helping the Colts get into first place in the AFC South at the halfway point of the season. Hoyer threw three touchdown passes in relief of Brissett last week, but that wasn’t enough as the Colts lost to the Steelers.

Against the Dolphins, the Colts will count on Hoyer to do enough not to lose, in a game they’ll still be favored to win even without their starting quarterback.

The Colts also announced that cornerback Pierre Desir has been downgraded to doubtful.

Hope Bengals fans are watching him as he’ll prob be their starting QB for 2020.

I put my money on Cam…

  2. I’m rushing my typing so I can be the first to whine about how unfair it is for Brian Hoyer to still be in the NFL and playing this Sunday while Colin Kaepernick can’t even get a tryout.

  3. Chad Kelly? The guy who was cut by Denver after taking up residence in a stranger’s house is now on an active roster? Amazing.

Isn’t it? I’m sure local residents in Indianapolis have been advised to keep their doors and windows locked whenever Chad is in town (and especially during bye week).

Kaep hasn’t been in the league for years yet he still occupies significant space in your head. It may be time to move on to fake outrage about other subjects.

  6. So Chad Kelly gets a buzz-on and tries to make some new friends on a stranger’s couch at 1:00AM, and people can’t give the kid a break.

FORGIVENESS, people! Try it, it’s liberating.

And besides, he can’t help it his uncle is the famous Bills’ QB Jim Kelly. People demand and expect too much from the poor kid.

  7. The Colts are going to run the ball all over the Dolphins defense with their high draft picks who occupy the trenches. I hope Chris Grier is paying close attention, because the Colts offensive line used to resemble what the Dolphins are now carting out onto the field.

  8. Hoyer is a strange dude. He seems to be very serviceable in relief duties, but when he is the actual regular starting QB he doesn’t seem to play as well and struggles.

  9. Hopefully Jacoby heals up soon, he is a good guy, and an even better qb.

He has really come into his own, and now that Indi finally have a team built around the qb, they could go deep into the playoffs

    Heal up young man

Are the Dolphins trying to win and Flores is just terrible or are they tanking and Flores doesn’t understand the meaning of tanking.

I’ve seen him trade away all the young talent.

  14. Hoyer was 0-6 as 49er starter in 2017. Jimmy G. was 5-0 with the same team that same season. That shows me how good he is. He is still around making a living as a backup quarterback while Kap is jobless and Jimmy G. has been called a bust by some people.
