George Kittle “in doubt” for Monday night

49ers tight end George Kittle fought through knee and ankle injuries to play most of the Week Nine game against the Cardinals, until he simply couldn’t keep going. He may not be able to keep going on Monday night, either.

Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports that Kittle’s status is “in doubt” for the Week 10 game against the Seahawks.

Kittle didn’t practice on Thursday or Friday. On Saturday, he’ll receive a label for Monday night — there’s a good chance he will be out.

Coach Kyle Shanahan has been guarded regarding information on Kittle, saying only that an MRI showed that Kittle has “issues” with the knee and ankle.

If Kittle can’t go, Ross Dwelley becomes the top option at tight end for the 49ers. He had four catches for 29 yards last Thursday night.

Kittle took a big hit to the knee early in the 28-25 win over the Cardinals, exited for a bit, and then came back and kept going as if nothing happened. He scored San Francisco’s first touchdown in the game on a 30-yard pass, and he seemed to be OK until he left during the final few drives.

  1. Some people wonder if Frisco can win without George Kittle. Well, the 49ers were 6-10 and Jimmy G. was 5-0 in 2017 when Kittle was still a college student. The 9ers were 1-2 with Jimmy G. as starter, and 3-12 without Jimmy G. but with George Kittle having a pro bowl season playing all 16 games.

Numbers do not lie. Frisco cannot win consistently without Jimmy G. but they can win with Jimmy G. even without George Kittle. Frisco is 14-2 with Jimmy G., but they are only 12-12 with George Kittle.

  2. I guess spaz equals top 3 TE in the league in today’s language. Huge loss if he can’t go. I swear the Niners get this injury bug every year. No excuses though with a Monday night rivalry game coming up. Hope it’s a good one.

  3. More numbers that tell the truth.

Kyle Shanahan’s win-loss record as 49er coach and different starting quarterbacks:
    Brian Hoyer 0-6
    CJ Beathard 1-9
    Nick Muellers 3-5
    Jimmy G. 14-2

That means Shanahan is 4-20 without Jimmy G as starter, but he is 14-2 when Jimmy G. is starting. Jimmy G may not get many voes for NFL MVP but he is definitely the MVP for the Frisco 49ers.

  4. Dwelley is a good backup. Kittle needs to dit out. While it is an important division game I’d be more concerned with him being healthy when the playoffs come around. That was a bad shot that he took. Most other players would have been out after that hit. Rest up, George. The 9ers have this one without you.

Kittle was a rookie in 2017

    ++++
So what you’re saying is, Jimmy is an MVP wannabe.
