Matt Nagy indicates he’ll stick with kicker Eddy Pineiro

The Bears still have a kicking problem, but that doesn’t mean they’re searching for a replacement.

Bears coach Matt Nagy indicated after Sunday night’s game that he wants to stick with Eddy Pineiro, who missed two field goals.

Eddy knows he’s got to make those,” Nagy said.

The Bears may not be able to find a better kicker off the street in November. And at 4-6 the Bears are out of realistic playoff contention, so they have higher priorities, like figuring out how they’re going to rebound after this season, given that they don’t have a first-round draft pick and are short on salary cap space.

So it may not be that the Bears are actually confident in Pineiro, but that they figure they’re stuck with him for six more weeks.

  1. We also have problems with Head Coach, General Manager, offensive line and running back and will be forced to stick with them for the next six weeks, too. Our MVP is Pat O’Donnell, our punter. That should tell you something about this team.

  2. The Bears are exactly back to where they were under Fox: not only bad at football, but boring. Pity the Thanksgiving game can’t be flexed.

  3. I’m not even sure that FA kickers will even want to come tryout for the Bears. It’s a career death sentence.

That was an absolute circus the way they went about it last offseason. The only thing missing was the big top tent and the elephants. The Bears brought their own clowns.

  4. On behalf of all Raiders fans: keep sticking with everything you’re doing. At this rate we’ll get another sweet draft pick. Enjoy Mack 😉

  5. Here we are in mid-Novemeber 2019 and the Bears are STILL bemoaning their kicker issues. Did’nt this start about a year ago when Parkey donked the upright 4x in ONE game vs the Lions? Go for it EVERYTIME on 4th down.

  6. Replacing Pineiro would mean Nagy admitting he’d wasted the whole offseason on replacing a kicker and that the whole 9-guy tryout was worthless. And Nagy never admits to making a mistake.

  7. Coming to a theater near you, the story of the 2019 Bears and their kicker:

    “Eddy and the Losers”

  8. What’s the point of replacing him? They’re out of the playoffs and they already have enough money tied up. Hopefully Pace, Nagy, Mitch, and Eddy will be gone after the season. We can dismantle the D to regain draft picks and start over. We’d never be able to fix the offense in the time frame of the D championship window anyway. We can recover plenty of first and second rounders for our defensive assets. The 35 year rebuild continues.

  9. Lets also talk about how the great Khalil Mack was completely shut down by a rookie that couldn’t even get 1 game day activation prior to yesterday, to the point the Bears just start dropping him into coverage.

  10. It’s insane that Nagy has leeway because of “his” 12-5 record last year, which stems entirely from the Bears historical defense last year. And, as poorly as Trubisky has played, it’s also insane that anyone that watches football would pin the Bears’ record on Trubisky.

What’s going to happen if the Bears switch to another starting QB next year? Nagy is no longer burdened by the “bad fit” RB Howard, and how is that working out?

This is Nagy’s Bears. This is his offensive line. This is his running back corps. This is his TE room. If he can’t find a way to make it work with Trubisky – it’s because of one reason. Nagy is too arrogant to build a team that suits his players. Nagy is also apparently too arrogant to coach during the summer. What the hey were these guys doing during training camp? Watching a kicking competition? The entire offense is a disaster.

“This is the blind leading the blind.”

Could be A LOT worse, at least they’re not the Lions!

  12. The Bears offense sucks with a qb that cant play better than a rookie and their defense looks helpless much of the time.wonder now if they are that happy for outbidding the Packers for Kalil Mack while giving up their future draft picks and any real hope for the foreseeable future.Mack missed out on a great Super Bowl run this season in GB all for a few million.mr. Mack, grab a beer,a couch, some chips and watch the playoffs and SB on televison like your faithful Bears fans.

  13. Don’t worry, you guys will still sweep the Lions (with Trubisky.)

He’s garbage, but he can beat the Lions.

  14. Nice guys finish last. Trubisky, Pinero and Nagy might be nicest guys in the league. but they are going to be looking for jobs soon.

  15. Here’s the problem guys…

    Mark Helfrich…..Off. Co.
    Brad Childress….Senior Off. Assistant
    Shane Toub……..Off. Assistant
    Brian Ginn……..Off. QUALITY CONTROL
    Mike Snyder…….Off. QUALITY CONTROL
    Dave Ragone…….Quarterbacks coach

THEY AREN’T DOING THEIR JOBS !!!!!

Not sure Nagy is head coach material any more. Maybe an offensive coordinator? Very stubborn.

His offense has been horrible. Even last year, I am not sure what people were watching last year, when they thought the offense was good.

  17. Might as well. There aren’t any good kickers waiting at home for the phone to ring at this point in the season anyway.

  18. So when things are going wrong it’s sometimes wise to look around and see if someone is having success whom you can copy. That’s why I just don’t understand why the Bears et al don’t look to the Redskins for how to do things.

    Utter stupidity…….
They had a TE and RB on his side chipping him on just about every down. Teams have realized that there isn’t Hicks who dominates the middle anymore so they can bring everything to macks side since Floyd isn’t doing much. If you can’t see something so simple you basically don’t know football.

  20. There is no better alternative at this point of the season than to stick with Piñeiro (and Trubisky). The season is lost and with the offensive line problems and bad play calling not even Tom Brady and adam vinatieri could bring the team back into contention.

  21. Short on cap space? Wonder why!! The 25 million dollar man that doesn’t pay off!! Thanks for the picks and the bright future! Mack way overrated he’s the best ever haha!

  22. LMAO the raiders were idiots for trading mack and now the bears paid him and are on their way to cap hell….the lesson from all of this…no defensive player is worth QB money…especially if your QB is mitch trubisky…

  23. As a Packer fan I am glad the bears outbid the Packers for Khalil Mack. I don’t know why he isn’t producing(and no bears fans, he isn’t getting triple teamed 🙂 but I will take the Smith Brothers and keeping our first round picks! Great job Gutey!

Oh you mean the two guys who pass rush on every down and can’t stop the run? Yeah they’re really good!

  25. Not sure of Naggy. May have been a reach for HC position IMO. First, there was not one screen play in the playbook to take the rush off Trub and get him going. There is no run game because their best guy was let go. Two of their receivers are short dudes and the two tall ones dont get the ball thrown to them?
I mean if you can come up with a better plan for disaster, I like to see it.
