New report disputes the Patriots have interest in Antonio Brown

A report earlier Thursday said the Patriots have “kicked the tires” on Antonio Brown. A new report from NBC Sports Boston disputes that’s the case.

Tom Curran cited two sources who scoffed at the team’s reported interest in the free agent receiver, with one asking, “What’s changed?”

Two things have changed since the Patriots released him: Brown apologized to Patriots owner Robert Kraft earlier this week, and Brown’s camp expects the league to clear him to return this season after his hearing with the NFL last week in South Florida.

But Curran reports the Patriots have moved on from Brown, “unwilling to go down the same road again.”

It disputes the earlier report from former Patriots tight end Christian Fauria of WEEI who said the team has had internal discussions about a reunion with Brown.

Brown played only one game for the Patriots, catching four passes for 56 yards and a touchdown.

Kraft reportedly made the decision to cut Brown on Sept. 20.

  1. Let’s go Pats!! As a receiver and an athlete, Brown is one of the best and would be a great addition and put the Pats over the top in a quest for a Super Bowl.

  2. If Kraft allows Brown back after what he said be ready for a full on circus. How many appologies will this guy get away with before teams say talent cant surpass his antics.

  3. Innocent till convinced. The NFL better wake up. They Cannot deny a play a living over accusations and if they are innocent. If Brown is found innocent will he get his contract pay and signing bonus? if I weree him i would sue big time.?

  4. I think they might bring him back if league clears him at least for a period of time. Otherwise you know another will and if your the Patriots who already laid out money, your going to sit back and let an adversary grab him from you with your present group o wide receivers all banged up. Sanu now out for weeks. Get a grip, it’s very possible!

  5. Typical for the media in NE. They made up the rift between Belichick and Guerrero. Guerrero told Kirk years ago they had a great relationship. In a recent interview on WEEI Guerrero repeated he and Belichick have had a great relationship for 21 years plus Belichick has gone to Guerrero for treatment.

  6. If it’s a No to Antonio Brown what’s the next move. Its reported Sanu has a high ankle sprain and could miss a couple weeks.Cant sit there and watch Brady struggle.I hate this idea but what about Dez Bryant. Not the best solution but have to do something

  7. Why would the Pats need a WR? Their fans claim Edelman is a hall of famer. If he’s really great then the pats would be just fine with their supporting cast as is.

But Edelman is not great. He’s a role player who has found himself in a good situation.

  8. Fauria was probably right. They discussed it. Current is probably also right. When they discussed it, it was like, ‘no bleepin’ way.’

  9. Perfect fit for this low character guy. Nobody circles the wagons like the Buffalo Bills, and nobody puts an asterisk on it like the New England Patriots.

  10. Whoever says the nfl has no right to deny Brown a living is flat out wrong as the image and protecting the shield supersedes that every day of week. Caesar divorced his first wife over the mere perception of impropriety saying “the wife of Caesar must be beyond reproach “ and so it is with the nfl.

  11. Of course Brown’s camp expects him to be re-instated this year. What else would we expect them to say? Other than the NFL’s justice system is absolutely whack, unfair, & not consistent in any way, how could they possibly let this bi-polar, brain frozen, lunatic, who’s made the statements he’s made, back into the league? Let alone, the horrendous allegations against him. I’d be so disappointed if the shield allowed him back anytime soon (which likely means they will).

  12. Just goes to show you, Patriots’ fans don’t know Bill Belichick any better than the rest of the fans. The day Brown was suspended I was on here saying the Patriots will re-sign him as soon as the dust settles. I got ripped apart by Pats’ fans who were saying there’s no way BB would stoop so low. Well, here we are folks! I was right.

  13. Under no circumstances will they take him back. I hope like heck he gets open and in shape down the stretch they will need him. LOL
No taking him back is not that dumb and idea, they need someone to throw to and soon

I thought Tom Brady could turn nobodies into all pros?
    —————————————————–

No, but Tom Brady, the Greatest NFL Player of All-Time, has been the primary driving force behind, literally, hundreds of current and former New England Patriots players receiving Super Bowl rings as members of Super Bowl winning Patriots teams.

Why can’t this guy just go away?
    —–
Maybe if he took a knee during the national anthem the league might ban him because that seems to be the most egregious crime a player can commit.

  18. As a big Pats fan I hope they don’t go anywhere near this disastrous clown. Yes, we need help at WR with Sanu out, but NOT BROWN! I don’t care how good he is… he’s a horrible person and I don’t want him on “my” team… ever again!

  19. Since NE may have to pay him anyway, they are probably trying to make a sound business decision. I would rather have Gronk back (which I doubt will happen and for his sake, I hope he stays retired), than the AB circus. Yes, he (AB) is a heck of a talent, but NE does not need the sideshow. They need the OL to get healthy and they will be fine.

  20. And to think pats fans were defending him and opening their arms for him. Welp i guess its back to hating him

  21. The World Champion Patriots, the team that has won more Super Bowls than any other team since the 70’s, home of the greatest QB and coach that ever graced an NFL football field with their presence and the greatest fan base in sports as proven by a recent study has earned the benefit of the doubt. Don’t like it Patriot Hater? Take it up with your team that isn’t man enough to compete with them. 🙂

They know what they are doing and I see no reason to not trust their judgement on AB.

  22. Shouldn’t be surprising since the first report that they had interest was completely ludicrous.
I love the way the Media just throws a lie out there and then their buddies run with it.

  23. New England is 9-1 with no run game at all. They’ve also scored enough points to put them in the top 5 so far this year.
Sanu has been healthy for what, 1 game?
After that you have Edleman and a long list of WR’s that I bet you can’t even name.

Did I mention New England is 9-1 and a top 5 scoring team with no run game at all?

And massive injuries to the OL and starting a guy at left tackle who wouldn’t even start in an XFL game.

  26. AB will be a Chief before the end of the season. They tend to turn a blind eye on low character, high talent types….

  27. Admitting to interest has two results the Patriots, or any other team for that matter, do not want. Other teams get their interest peaked and the player gets more leverage knowing teams want him. The teams that admit or leak interest, really aren’t. They just want others to run up the price other teams end up having to pay.

In this case, my guess is the Pats are monitoring AB’s case and if he gets reinstated, BB will try to get Kraft to bring him back. The AB apology to Kraft was the true indicator of what is about to happen.

  28. If he’s cleared by the NFL, then he’s obviously innocent of all wrong doing, ha,ha. It couldn’t have anything to do with his threats of lawsuit against everyone involved.

Despite the possibility of more issues coming up, and considering we’ve already paid him, I’d lean towards bringing back the idiot if that’s what Brady really wants.

  29. Speaking as a Pats fan,I don’t hate AB,or anyone else. I just think that he’s too unstable and I hope that he gets help. He brings a circus wherever he goes. I know that the players want him back, but he just can’t stay on track.

  30. Maybe Brown can help bail out Brady but is that really the solution? Finding a high drama but top notch receiver to compensate for your old, slow, washed-up QB who can’t even throw a fully inflated ball?

Why do you bring the Colts into this? They have been caught cheating in-game but nobody cares because the Colts are nobodies.

  32. Not gonna happen… McDaniels faces a big coaching challenge. Probably needs to simplify the offense to play to the strengths of Meyers and Harry. Edelman is gonna be doubled to death. Sanu will be limited, if not out. I see a couple more losses and a likely 2 seed. That assumes Baltimore can keep up its current pace. I’m not sure they can, but who knows. They do have the 49ers, and I wonder if Wade Phillips will come up with a wrinkle to slow them Monday. We shall see…

Funny when the Colts win, the Patriots fanboys chirp their mouths off because they think Brissett won the game all by himself because he was a Patriot.

  34. As much as I wanna throw on the black hat and supercharge the role of NFL Villians, I don’t think BB wants to deal with the media BB again.
I’m hoping a rough game against the ‘Boys without Sanu will force Brady to throw and develop some trust with Harry and Myers

  35. If there is one thing that should be beyond obvious by now it’s belichick will do anything if it helps the team win games. What the media says/thinks means nothing. Does his presence on the field outweigh his current distractions off the field, simple as that. And the answer is currently only in BB’s head and no one will find out until the NFL announces if the guy is facing any type of suspension if he is signed.

The best part is you did not add anything to my comment. You went off about Brissett.

I am not one of them and it sucks that Pats fans go and do such things on a constant basis. Why do you always complain about the Pats? Is it because of a team you root for? I did claim you to be a Colts fan and you denied such an accusation yet respond to a Colts comment I made. So what team do you root for? This question has been asked multiple times. Why do you not answer?

If it’s a 5th or later, sure. Why not? Guy is a major talent. Sure, he’s done some stupid crap on field, but he’s a good guy off. Just needs to handle that temper a bit.

    ————————————————–

Pats fans are big fans of Jacoby Brissett, and almost all current and former Patriots players who have made contributions to the Pats success through the years, even if those players now play for organizations we detest. The loyalty of Patriots fans is just one of many reasons why the Patriots have the greatest fan base in the NFL. However, as much as we Pats fans admire, respect, and root for Jacoby Brissett, I expect you cannot provide one legitimate example of a Patriot fan on this site, or any site, stating that Jacoby Brissett won any game by himself.

  40. How can anyone take what the rumors say about the Pats as anything more than lies after all these liars said they would never sign AB and then said AB could be tamed by BB….how did that work out…..? Yawn

  41. Yawn… Old man river is crying about the Pats again. Is there still a team in Pittsburgh for you to root for?

  42. Can’t stand this clown. The way he blew up and walked on his deals with Pittsburgh and Oakland makes me vote that he never be allowed to play again. Throw in the charges he is being looked at for now and it should be a done deal. But…., he could be of help to the NE offense, so it wouldn’t surprise me to see him on the field to help get another ring… Still think he is a piece…

I’d say since they are 9-1 it worked out a lot better than things are working out for your Steelers.

  44. I wonder if AB looks back at that idiotic video he made of himself running through his yard screaming “i’m free”, seconds after he had lost $30 million, and thinks… that might have been a bad move?
