Tom Brady said personnel decisions, including Antonio Brown, aren’t up to him

Patriots quarterback Tom Brady reportedly disagreed with the team’s decision to cut Antonio Brown on Sept. 20. Brady, though, has never stated that publicly.

During his weekly Westwood One Radio appearance Thursday, Brady wouldn’t campaign for the receiver’s return.

Former Patriots tight end Christian Fauria, now of WEEI, reported earlier Thursday that the team has “kicked the tires” on a Brown reunion. A report from Tom Curran of NBCSportsBoston.com later Thursday refuted the Patriots have interest in Brown.

Brady wasn’t biting when asked about a possible Brown return this season.

“I don’t think those decisions, honestly, are up to me,” Brady said on Westwood One, via Ryan Hannable of WEEI. “They are not up to me when we cut players or sign players. I think the people in the personnel department decide those things. My job is to play quarterback, and that is what I’m trying to do as well as I possibly can.”

His answer is scripted. What is his true opinion?

    ————–

Wasn’t it just a few days ago when people were critical of Brady for being truthful at the podium? People were saying it wasn’t a good look for a team leader to be frustrated.

What the heck do people want from the guy.

  2. This is Brady’s boiler-plate answer to all questions of this ilk. He’s not going to create a controversy by making a statement that AB should have stayed or should return. He would do that in private with the powers that be.

You are giving up on the Colts season already?

Smart move to beat that rush.

  4. Why would anyone be dumb enough to assume Brady has final say on Pats personnel decisions? He’s often done more with less in terms of his offensive supporting casts and there have been many obvious instances over the years where he indeed would have changed the mix were that within his power. Sorry folks, but if you buy into that one then you probably need to re-evaluate your thought processes on many things.

  5. I DARE, double triple….. whatever the biggest dare is…… someone in the media to ask Billy B if he takes marching orders from TB12.
‘Cause that’s what you’re insinuating here.

  6. He has nothing to do with it?
    Oh, sure.
It’s like asking a child with chocolate all over his face, “What happened to that box of candy that was sitting here?”

  7. Brady has no say in whether Brown is resigned by the Pats.
But he has AB’s room ready, the linen has been changed, and there’s fresh towels in his private bathroom.
    Just a coincidence, though.

    ******

I was thinking the exact same thing.

  9. Patriots’ fans are obsessed with bringing back Brown as a cover-up for their tired, old, slow, immobile QB. Believe me, the greatest receiver in the world can’t make up for the fact that Brady’s days are over and the Patriots are leaving themselves vulnerable to getting crushed when it matters the most.

Yes. Go take your 6 rings, your model wife, your great kids, your countless millions, your GOAT status and be done with it. Life after football looks awful doesn’t it?

  11. It seems every time the Colts lose a big game the pet is the first to post to a Patriots thread telling us its over for the Patriots. It’s a more reliable indicator than a groundhog seeing its shadow. In this case, it indicates the Pats will get a first round bye, win the AFC Championship Game and play in the Super Bowl.

Absolutely right. Not sure why so consumed with everything Patriots when should be more concerned about his(or her?) own team. Guess we should be paying rent for all the space we’re using in his head.
