David Blough to start at QB for Lions

The Lions will be down to their third-string quarterback on Thanksgiving.

David Blough is set to start in Detroit, the team has announced. Starter Matthew Stafford had already been ruled out with a back injury, and second-stringer Jeff Driskel is officially questionable with a hamstring injury.

Blough is a rookie from Purdue who went undrafted this year. He initially signed with the Browns but was traded to the Lions at the end of the preseason.

If both Stafford and Driskel are inactive, Blough’s backup would likely be tight end Logan Thomas, who was a quarterback at Virginia Tech.

After a promising start this season, the Lions have lost seven of their last eight games. With their third-string quarterback under center, it may take a Thanksgiving miracle for the Lions to win.

  1. Crazy thing is with no tape on him he will probably be serviceable plus a couple big moments…would be just like the Lions to blow another draft party!

  2. 9 – 7 wasn’t good enough so here we sit at 9 – 17 – 1 in the Patricia era about to be 9 – 18 – 1. LOL

  3. Logan Thomas? Bring up a practice squad QB just in case Mack goes off.

Lions and Cowboys should trade off instead of each getting a Thanksgiving game every year. Bears can’t throw and Lions can’t defend the pass. On the other side, no clue if the Lions go conservative. They weren’t bad with Driskel.

  4. Every Lions fan would be clinging to this team like stink on Cleveland if Bob and Matt had just come right out and said, “we are rebuilding” this team. Instead, we get what we have here.

  5. Krapernick sits in his multimillion dollar house in a gated predominately white neighborhood. Waiting for a call.

You couldn’t figure that out? Wow.

  7. Lioms will run the ball relentlessly to comtrol the clock keeping the ball out of Bloughes and Nears hands !!! Clock management !

  8. Brett Favre entered the game for the first time when Don Majkowski was injured.

Majkowski was Wally Pipped, as they say (look up the reference). Brett never left.

This is why football is so fascinating. Individual opportunity lead to careers.

It may be a long shot, but today IS Thanksgiving. And will all see just what Mr. Blough is capable of at the NFL level.

  9. They should offer Kaepernick a 2 year contract at the veteran minimum with a team option for the 3rd year. When he refused to sign, we can move on from him once and for all.

  10. Let’s see, Mack strip sacks 3rd string QB at the 5. Maybe Trubisky can orchestrate another masterful 3 play, 5 yd TD drive. Its sad that I even have to say “maybe”

  11. Next man up. Don’t want a silly thing like NOT HAVING A QB to get in our way of a Super Bowl run. SMH. This is starting to remind me of the Millen era

  12. The Browns should have kept this kid. In pre-season, he was in full command of the offense, makes multiple reads, and played very composed. He takes chances. I liked what I saw from him in his brief playing time.

I think he will outplay Trubisky today.

The Lions didn’t make the playoffs at 9-7 and definitely were not a Super Bowl contender and Caldwell was a terrible game manager so a change was justified . Patricia was one of the hottest names during the coaching search the year he was hired so don’t think anybody thought it was a mistake then . Complain all you want about his record so far with the Lions but stop with the LOL idea the team was wrong for deciding that a change was necessary for a non playoff non Super Bowl contending team with a terrible gameday coach .

In case Mack goes off? That would be news to everyone. 6.5 sacks this year and 32 tackles. Didn’t Mack have zero tackles a couple of games ago? Going off, indeed.

No playoff win in 27 years. Perennial holiday game.

    Why……

    _________

Obviously you’re talking about the terrible Lions. Its been 28 years and that’s an understatement. The Lions only playoff win since 1957 was the one you’re referring to in 1991.

    62 years of failure.

Meanwhile, I’m just still bitter and upset that the Raiders got fleeced in the Mack trade.

Careful what you say, Mack pancaked the Lions tackle with one arm last season and sacked Stafford.

The Bears are 3-0 against Patricia.

I never said Caldwell shouldn’t have been replaced. Those games were awful. We got down 21 points in the first half of every game which is why Stafford led the league in comeback wins.

The point is we WERE 9-7. Something this clown couldn’t pull off if his life depended on it. So if 9 -7 wasn’t good enough, then 9 – 17 – 1 shouldn’t be either.

Relax, everyone. It’s pronounced like “plough” (as in “plough a field”), just starting with a B instead.

Yeah, we know. But why do you always have to be a buzz kill?

  19. Not sure why the Blough blows lowest hanging fruit possible crew think they’re actually being funny.

I wish the kid good luck. Its his first game starting in front of a large holiday audience. Hope he just lets go of all the stress and has fun with his first start and plays well.

  20. Now that I’ve bloughed (plowed) my way through all these comments and horrible puns, including learning the proper pronunciation of this guys name, I feel I’ve earned the right to drop one of my own. That’s all.
