Packers overwhelm Giants, move to 9-3 with 31-13 win

AP

The Packers flopped in their last two road games, but they found the Giants to be far more hospitable hosts than the Chargers or 49ers.

Aaron Rodgers threw four touchdown passes and Daniel Jones threw three interceptions in a 31-13 Packers win. That moves them to 9-3 with a visit from Washington on tap in Week 14.

It was snowy for much of the first half of Sunday’s game, but the Packers are familiar with such conditions and they scored the first three times they had the ball to build a 17-10 halftime lead. The Giants were able to slice that lead to four points in the third quarter, but the game got away from them in the final 15 minutes.

Green Bay followed Aldrick Rosas‘s field goal with a 14-play touchdown drive that took more than seven minutes off the clock and then scored another touchdown after Darnell Savage‘s interception set them up with a short field. Tramon Williams would get Jones’s third interception a few plays after Marcedes Lewis caught Rodgers’s fourth touchdown and the game was firmly in Green Bay’s pocket at that point.

Rodgers was 21-of-33 for 243 yards on an efficient afternoon of work against a Giants defense that looks befuddled far too frequently. Rodgers’s third touchdown took advantage of that befuddlement as the Giants got caught with 12 men on the field and Davante Adams, who caught two touchdowns on the day, ran free in the end zone.

Jones is now up to 21 turnovers on the season, so it’s clear that the rookie has to work on not giving the ball away if the Giants are going to go from behind the scenes improvement to on-field improvement come 2020. They’ll head to Philadelphia next Monday night in the meantime and try to figure out a way to avoid a ninth straight loss.

  1. Nice of announcer to say that pack have more PI calls in their favor than any other team, wasn’t that a surprise ??

It is over Vike fans. Pack owns the North and the Refs
    ?__&&
Yup it’s over. The Packers hold every week 13 tie breaker.

    ————————————–
Well don’t thank me. Send your xmas cards to the refs. They make head coach Eric look much better than he really is. Even the announcers say as much.

  3. Congrats on your “slump buster” couldn’t get the prom queen so I guess this was the next best thing for a win. Congrats again on beating the Giants Cheezers.

  4. Dude, your sqaud beat a 2-9 team R E L A X. You just got waxed on national TV a week ago, your squad cant hang with an elite team.

And he said it twice !!
He might get in trouble from the NFL for pointing out that truth.
I mean, you are not supposed to say Aaron Rodgers and the packers get help on an NFL broadcast.

  6. For everyone complaining about the PI calls, did you even watch the game? Adams was CLEARLY held on what would’ve been two touchdown catches. Watch the games and you’ll see why the refs call PI. Receivers blow by cornerbacks and the only thing they can do to stop them is grab.

  7. it was cute watching Rodgers jumping around celebrating in the endzone like beating the Giants actually means something.

I guess it wasn’t that important of a game. It’s not like the winner was going the Rose Bowl.

Um Rube, you know this is a pro football thread right?

  9. What are the Viking fans so wound up for? Packers beat the Giants, they were scheduled to play them today… and they beat them, they didnt get help from the refs… ALL the flags were earned. The defenders made good plays to pick off Danny Dimes

It’s almost as if your trying to make this win seem like nothing cuz you’re nervous about tommorows game. Which I can understand why…

Rodgers sounded incoherent trying hard not to say something bad about the Packers defense in his post game interview
    //////////////

St Aaron being passive aggressive again? You don’t say……lol.

  11. I see nothing but Vikings fans crying and whining here. That’s because they know their team and season goes down in flames tomorrow, just as their precious Goophers did yesterday. Back to irrelevancy for both.

  12. “it was cute watching Rodgers jumping around celebrating in the endzone like beating the Giants actually means something.”

It means that the Packers are another game closer to the playoffs. It means if Mini can’t win in Seattle tomorrow they’ll need help to catch the Packers. It means stuff like that.

  13. The only way to stop Rodgers is PI. Sometimes you get caught, sometimes you don’t, and it’s worth the risk to keep trying to get by with it. The biggest difference among all NFCN teams and their expectations for success this seasons remains to be Aaron Charles Rodgers.

Just another day at the office for the most successful franchise in NFL history.

    ———————-

Homer, you have your sqaud confused with the Patriots.

  15. Viking fans know, deep down, they’ve had their chance to do great things after the Packers handed them a power vacuum on a silver platter each of the last two years. What did the Vikings do with it? Nothing. What are they doing this year? Trailing the Packers. The Packers and Vikings have nearly identical schedules This year with the Packers retaining only a slight degree more difficulty. The Packers started out two steps forward, one step back due to new front office personnel, all new offensive scheme, and a new head coach. The Vikings have the most prolific quarterback to ever wear purple, the best running back in the NFL since Barry Sanders, the three best wide receivers all playing for the same team, and a “most vaunted” and impenetrable defense for several years. After thirteen weeks the Vikings still technically trail the Packers. The Packers have exceeded my expectations. Go Pack Go!

  16. Do all you Viking fans realize how sad you look to other NFL fans who read these posts , you have nothing to be proud of and everything to prove.

  17. As usual, after a solid Packer win, all their fans are in here talking about……the Vikings and the Vikings fans.

Not a single post analyzing their own team. Not a
single post actually talking about the game at all. Not a single post talking about their remaining schedule. Not a single post talking about who they might play in the playoffs. Nope. Packer rubes getting worked up, telling us how Vikings fans are getting worked up.

  18. Lmao, congrats on beating arguably the worse team in football GB. I’m sure Florio will now move you up a few spots in the power rankings and anoint you the team to beat. I’m sure you are all patting yourselves on the back and think you’ve turned your season around from getting embarrassed against the Chargers and 49ers. Truth is, your defense is junk, and your cry baby QB is average at best.

yea you know…Dan’s guy friend. Everyone knows the alias…well, expect you.

  20. This game was a lot closer than the score. Giants GASHED up and down this excuse of a defense with ease. Converted three 4th down EASILY. THREE!! Wow.

Fackers are toast for years to come with this clown defense and coordinator.

And yes WE — all NFL fans, the entire league — know Fackers have a ref-assisted and heavily asterisked record.

    8**-8* team. At best.

Seems like the redheaded step children are really out of hand tonight….

Although, this redandgold*hitman52 made the same post in this thread as she made in the Ravens thread … crybaby stuff, nothing to really pay attention to.

    Go Pack. 9-3.

  23. Conor – Green Bay beat a team they should beat. When your Vikings get steamrolled tomorrow night, Green Bay will hold a 2 game advantage (via tiebreaker) on the coveted #3 playoff seed. Educated fans knew all this last week. Happy Thanksgiving!

  24. Got that W and got to 9-3. Mission accomplished on the trip.👏

Get back home to Lambeau this week and play a fired up Skins team that beat Carolina today. This is the NFL, no game is easy, just ask the Eagles.

One game at a time. Focus is on going 1-0 each week.

Some fan bases are obviously insecure and nervous. Not this one.

Seriously, other than a few old retiree’s left in that washed up town, the rest are mostly just you kiddies who have no real knowledge of watching any Super Bowls. Mostly cheesers are just a dumping ground for the MElennials.

  30. The cheeseheads sure are proud of their fake record. Can’t imagine how obnoxious they’d be if they actually had a team that legitimately was 9-3. Deep down they really know their team is terrible.

  31. Vikings fans are more frustrated when the Packers win than when their own team loses. Vikings fans would be more excited with a 2-14 record than a Lombardi if the 2 wins were against the Packers.

Same as the rest of the world which is ZERO

  34. Back to a 1.5 game lead….soon to be 2 after tomorrow night.

Let the purple tears rain down!

    Go Pack!
    Go Bucky!

  35. Lmao, it wasnt a valid win the Vikes beating the Giants but Packers do it its one for the ages. Packer fans especailly that only know the Farve Rodgers era never mention the Packers of the 70s but are quick to point out world championships. Its the 2019 season none of those things matter in this present time and place, only uneducated fans and super rubes play that card. It is not a Packer birthright that what the team has done in the past supersedes what is happening right now.

The Packers are good, but they’re not ready for big boy football, fairly evident after last Sunday’s thrashing by the 9ers.. You’re supposed to beat teams like the Giants, you may have a better QB based on previous years, but the Vikes have a better team.

    Brees
    Wilson
    Jimmy G
    Cousins

All are playing a couple notches better than Rodgers. Id rate Jimmy G and Rodgers about the same. Jimmy G has a superiot defense, Green Bay does not, again go back to last Sunday night.

  36. Favre pick against the Saints, missed 21 yard field goal against the Seahawks…such sweet memories!

  37. One of the funnest and most memorable experiences is watching your favorite team win the Super Bowl.

Some on here know what I’m talking about.

  38. As usual, after a solid Packer win, all their fans are in here talking about……the Vikings and the Vikings fans.
    ——
Lol, how surreal. Did you wait til 25 Viking fans had posted before you said that on purpose or are you just that oblivious?

  39. Been a tough weekend for the purples, first their completely overrated Goofers get slapped down by Bucky, then the Pack take care of business, which really infuriates them (just check out these comments) and now the real proposition that their championshipless team will be 2 games back tomorrow night.

    Purple tears….

Oh..,what will it be. 4th and 26? 15-1? Favre int? Alt? Az? Kap running wild 2x? Or the 2014 nfc choke-ion ship? Can’t wait!
    ____________________

Only one team can win a Championship, and those are the things that will happen through time trying to get to that goal, whether it be a heartbreaker INT at the one yard line when you have a dominant running back standing next to you during the snap, one of the most prolific offenses banking on a Kicker that hadn’t missed in 2 seasons to end up being the first 15-1 team not to win the SB, winning a coin toss and “wanting the ball and going to score” or a helmet catch, costing a team the perfect season.

The Packers won’t win the SB if they don’t start playing better, a LOT better, there are teams like NE, Bal, and SF that show they are ahead of them by a lot, but you still get a chance to if you make the post season.

  41. Not reading any of the comments but I can sum up what they say:

Vikings fans believe that the Packers aren’t really as good as 9-3 and aren’t really ahead of the Vikings. Also they believe Aaron Rodgers isn’t very good and neither is the defense. Congrats on beating the Giants blah blah blah.

Packers fans are saying you can only play who is on the schedule, and pointing out that the Vikings have had lots of trouble with mediocre teams on their schedule, losing to backup QBs twice and pointing out that the refs helped them not lose to a third.

In the end, the Packers lead the division. Vikings fans are little babies, and Packers fans are the greatest fans in all of sports.

    Facts are facts.

  42. A tiebreaking edge is basically a half game. Don’t make me have to explain it. It’s common sense.

  43. So Vikings fans seriously think Cousins > Rodgers? That explains the rest of their nonsense. While 2019 Rodgers is way below 2011 Rodgers, he’s still way better than any year of Cousins.

    ________________

Congrats on that, heres the difference though… Rodgers tries to make players around him better and elevate their play, like an Allen Lazard who had a big game, while the Vikings offense must unite to elevate the play of Cousins. If the Seahawks can neutralize the screen passes tommorw it will go a long way in slowing down that offense.

  47. I wasn’t able to watch the lackluster Packer victory yesterday.

I was at the thrilling Wild/Stars NHL game where Miko Koivu, playing in his 1,000th NHL game with the same franchise, scored the winning goal in a shoot out, his 700th career goal.

I’m sure it was equally “exciting” for the Packer fans to see their future HOF QB pass for a whole 243 yards on 33 attempts for a 7.36 YPA average (that’s 139 MORE than he had last week – but still lower than his mediocre season average per attempt). Rodgers is tied for 19th in the NFL with David Blough and Marcus Mariota with a 7.4 YPA average (passers with more than 5 attempts for the season)

It must have been exciting to see Aaron being the leading RUSHER for the Packers with 24 yards – until garbage time when the Packers were trying to run out the clock after finally getting a relatively safe lead.

Prior to that, Williams and Jones had 18 yards each.

No running game, lackluster passing game, a defense that played well enough against a rookie QB that has 11 INT’s and a 61.6% completion percentage this season.

I can only imagine that amount of beer it took to make that game watchable in Wisconsin yesterday. Miller and Pabst must have made a fortune yesterday.

Yup, beer makes things better than reality in Wisconsin…

  48. Wow! The Barneys seem a tad bit triggered over yesterday’s Packer game.
I wonder if it’s the impending doom that must be seeping into their already fragile psyche.
