Dak Prescott says it’s put up or shut up time for Cowboys

Michael Bennett delivered a loud message in the locker room after Thursday’s loss. The Cowboys had a chippy practice Sunday that included trash-talking.

On Monday, Dak Prescott said it’s time to walk the talk.

“When it’s times like this, it’s more lead by example,” the said. “Talk is cheap, right? We’ve talked a lot. We’ve talked a bunch and got ourselves right to where we are. In a moment like this I say to hell with the talking, and I’m going to do more.

“I’m going to work harder, and if you’re a young guy looking for somebody to figure it out, how to do it, yeah, look at me and some of these other guys because that’s exactly what we’re doing, putting our head down focusing and doubling down on ourselves.”

The Cowboys are well aware that the Dolphins did them a favor with an upset of the Eagles on Sunday, keeping them in sole possession of first place. They also know unless they play better than they have, it won’t matter.

The Cowboys are 0-5 against teams with winning records.

The Bears have the same 6-6 record as the Cowboys.

“It obviously hasn’t gone the way we’ve wanted it to, but we’re still in a position where things are still in front of us,” Prescott said. “It’s about focusing on now, not looking too far ahead or trying to get there right now, but taking care of this day and doing it the best we can. Being in this position, it’s all about coming to work each and every day, focusing on that day and the task at hand and look up here in a month and be where we want to be.

“I can sit here and say as much as I want to you guys, but it’s about going out there executing at practice and doing it on Thursday.”

Prescott has a chance to show his leadership this week and the rest of this season. He’s ready for that assignment.

Prescott said he wants his teammates to follow his lead.

“I hope they are,” Prescott said. “I’m not sure if they are, if that’s their mindset or not, but I hope they are, just because the way I’m going to go about this. I’ve faced adversity a lot in my life on and off the field, and at this moment, I’m just doubling down on myself and my teammates. I’ve got confidence in what I can do and what these guys around me can do and hope they’re looking my way.”

  1. The Cowboys gave been saying the same things since 1997… Just wait till next year tho cuz they’ll be really good next year right Cowboys fans? Yea next year

  2. The cowboys are total frauds and have been since the mid 90s. Jerry keeps selling you guys a bill of goods and you suckers buy it every time. But you’ll win the division. So congrats on being the king of the turds.

  3. So when will we please get rid of the the division champ. It is the dumbest thing in sports. You just have to be better than three teams in the entire nfl and you make the playoffs. There can be 2-4 teams with a better record than you but you automatically get in based on if you win your division regardless of record. I mean it comes a time when you should just eliminate all the divisions and just ha e all 32 teams play 32 teams in a rotating fashion. The top 12 teams make it to playoffs based off record and tie breaker being sos. Why do teams like mine the bucs have to suffer every year because there are three good teams in there division minus this year. But the patriots just get to keep going to the playoffs every year. Playing there division opponents who same story every year. One of them have a decent record but beat no body and get exposed eventually(bills) and the other two are fighting for the first overall pick. My bucs are eliminated from playoffs but a team with the exact record has to win out and they will get a home playoff game. Never made sense to me to have 7-9 teams host a playoff team versus and 11-5 opponent. Forget about pass interference and let’s fix this big issue. A 7-9 team should never in the history of sports host an 10-6 or 11-5 team because they were better than three teams that year in there division

  4. I’ll raise. Dak chipped in ” It’s time to put up or shut up time for Cowboys” and i raised it to ” It’s time to put up or shut up time for Cowboys against a winning record team”.

Anyone know who the current NFC #1 Seed is? 😉

No one cares. Your team will choke to the rams or Vikings again. Keep living and cheering for the aints

  6. Oh pnut quit whining- the scenario you speak of is extremely rare ….. if your team can’t hack it that’s on them not the league and it’s postseason structure

  7. Had the Cowboys home been in any other state we wouldn’t have called them America’s team The Cowboys at best are just above the Lions and Bucs and that ain’t saying much.

  8. Like what Johnny Unitas used to say, when his teammates were looking for inspirational words:

“Talk is cheap. Let’s go to work.”

  9. DAK is not, nor will he ever be a upper level QB, but anyone can see that with better coaching, he can become really good. Cowboys pass when they should run and run when they should pass. How many playoff coaches would out coach Garrett in an elimination game ……”all of them” ?. Cowboys are competitive in most games in spite of their coach, he never seems to give them the best chance to succeed his idea of we do what we do is outdated and moronic. Don’t know if Jones is the problem most think he is, but Garrett has overstayed his welcome by a few seasons. Never thought he was a SB coach and unfortunately I was never proven wrong.

  10. Even if the players execute better and work harder it doesn’t get them over the hump when they are consistently out-coached. Kellen Moore is regressing into Scott Linehan. You can run the ball out of spread formations and pass out of heavy packages, its not illegal.

  11. My hope is Bears beat Cowboys. Would love to see them relevant at the end of the season so the Vikes can make them irrelevant at the end of the season. SKOL!!!!!!

  12. What I fail to understand is why do people making $500,000/yr or a lot more have to be given a firey speech or pumped up by their HC or QB, isn’t all that money enough motivation?

If not they all need to go get a real job and see how little they’ll make and then maybe, just maybe that’ll give them all the motivation and appreciation they need and have obviously been lacking!

Um…”you hope they are”. You’re suppose to be a leader Dak and that’s what you say. Wow.

Yeah look what he’s doing on the sidelines…..nothing just sits there. Not yelling, not saying anything to anyone just stares….. that’s not a mark of a leader. Yet he wants 40 Mil a year? Yeah not seeing it.
