Patriots quickly cut Kai Forbath

He came, he saw, he missed a kick. And then he got cut.

Kicker Kai Forbath, who was available in late November for a reason, is available again. The Patriots released Forbath after missing an extra point on Sunday night, via Field Yates of ESPN.com.

Nick Folk underwent an emergency appendectomy on Thursday, and he was waived the next day. Forbath was signed after getting tryouts last week with the Panthers and Titans.

Forbath has now kicked in regular-season games for five different teams: Washington, the Saints, the Vikings, the Jaguars, and the Patriots.

The next Patriots kicker will be their fifth, from Stephen Gostkowski to Mike Nugent to Folk to Forbath.

They’ll sign their fifth one by Sunday. Whoever is available to be signed in early December, however, will be available for a reason.

  1. If he’s not interested in any CFL kickers, Belichick should try to talk Sebastian Janikowski or Chandler Catanzaro out of retirement. Catanzaro is only 28-years-old. His longest field goal was from 60 yards, and his average percentage was 83 percent. He retired from the Jets back in August. On October 8, 2017 in Week 5, Catanzaro kicked a 57-yard field goal, the longest in Jets franchise history.

  2. Another example of how Bill Belichick is just a genius. While everyone else is playing chess he’s over here like king me.

  3. Cobra Kai – that was a quick hello and goodbye.

Bill Belichick: “Mercy is for the weak! Extra point misses do not exist in this dojo!”

  4. They cut Forbath and rookie DT Albert Huggins (Clemson) has been claimed on waivers from the Eagles. Huggins (6-3, 305) has played in 4 games this year for Philadelphia. Adds depth at big DT spot w/ Byron Cowart (head) injured

I hear Vinitari might be available….

    Good post!!
On another note…as a Bills fan I approve of this situation…..

  6. He pulled off a great onsides kick that Bolden almost nabbed for a very late possession at midfield. That could have saved him.

That was the punter. He does the kickoffs.

  7. I’m not surprised the Patriots cut the kicker, but they didn’t really need to make it worse by taking a delay game penalty when they attempted to go for two when they saw a defense they didn’t like. That extra five yards probably made the difference there, and the PAT kick isn’t gimme anymore. Truly head scratcher moment from an otherwise very competent coaching staff.

  8. A week and a half is plenty of time to recover from a appendectomy…Folk gets resigned. Or just sign a rookie that’s still in shape and had a good preseason. BENGALS and COLTS both had good prospects.

That wasn’t Forbath, it was Jake Bailey.

  10. Belichick doesn’t do head scratchers. If you think it’s a head scratcher, it’s you, not him.

  11. Belichick’s plan to go for two made sense. It was 21-9. Two points gets them within 10. They took the five yard penalty because they didn’t like the defensive alignment and didn’t want to give up the timeout.

Why not wait for the next score you might ask to go for two? Bill would rather know sooner than later if it worked. Not getting the one point didn’t change a need for two scores, which changed to three scores after the Texans scored in the 4th. Without that Texans score the Pats win.

  12. After having Vinatieri and Gostkowski, tough to like a new kicker that missed his first extra point

  13. Tiger lilac: you think the Texans play that weak prevent defense if they didn’t get that last score? No, they don’t. Patriots only
Scored late because Houston gave them all the short stuff.

  14. The Patriots were easily defeated….. 7 points ?? It really wasn’t that close – Houston had checked out on NE’s last TD …… the reaper is here to stay ……of course this is the WWE…. oops sorry NFL so ya never know with Vince … damn it – I mean Roger………..

  15. It’s got to be strange to come in and meet people, get signed for a couple of days, and then get released immediately after one game. A reminder of how fleeting particular jobs in the NFL can be.

You can be a DB so long before it catches up to you…..

    You speaking from experience?

  17. To those that that say the Texans lead, not the final score, is evident of a blowout. I say, tell that to the the Atlanta Falcons who lost to thePatriots at the Texas home field three super bowls ago in the biggest comeback in super bowl history.

    Facts matter.

  18. With 50 seconds left Bailey’s onside kick bounced high out of the reach of the Texans, Brandon Bolden gets a hand on it but can’t get control and it goes out of bounds.

The Patriots were that close to having a chance to win after its offense struggled for the majority of three quarters and its defense gave up some big passing scores.

The point is the Patriots kept working, pressing the Texans and never gave up. They are like Michael Meyers in Halloween. They are never dead and everyone fears them.

  19. If he’s not interested in any CFL kickers, Belichick should try to talk Sebastian Janikowski

…. for tips on not finishing the pregame buffet before anyone else has had a turn?

  20. The only kicker the Patriots should be worried about is the one currently kicking their butts. No shortage of them these days.

New England homers are still salty. So that’s what makes a NE clam chowder so salty…..
    —————————–

If you were not so salty you would not post multiple times on every Pats article. The Pats have lost 2 out of their last 17 games. How many times have you posted after those 15 victories? Over/under 500?

Texans were playing prevent defense on that last Patriots TD. Don’t act like the Patriots fought for it, it was more on the lines of the Texans being dumb with their defensive play calling.

  25. Have their new punter Bailey kick field goals. The kid has been awesome punting and has been handling the kick-offs ever since Gostkowski went down. Considering he’s been doing the kick-offs for quite a while now, it shouldn’t be a stretch to have him do field goals too.
