Dalvin Cook limited, but Zimmer says he’s playing

The Vikings don’t know when they’ll get wide receiver Adam Thielen back on the field, but they’re pretty confident about their leading rusher.

Via Chris Tomasson on the St. Paul Pioneer Press, running back Dalvin Cook was limited in practice for the second straight day with a chest injury.

But coach Mike Zimmer said he expected Cook to play Sunday against the Lions, and be close to 100 percent.

That would be good news for Cook, who has been something other than 100 percent the last two games, with just 20 carries for 55 yards combined.

  1. We’ve all heard this story before. He we go again. First it’s Thielen and now it’s Cook. I bet we don’t see both of them play again this year.

  2. Has the medical staff checked Zim for a concussion? He says every injured player is “fine.” Cook couldn’t finish a game 3 days ago, but is ready to rock now? I’ll believe it when I see him carry the ball Sunday.

  3. If they need an injured Cook to beat the Lions, then the Vikings are in worse shape than I thought. If they play an injured Cook who had trouble holding on to the football against Seattle because he was worried about how he was going to hit the turf, then the staff are less competent than I thought.

  4. Zimmer has no business being an NFL head coach…hell, he’s not fit to be a Pop Warner head coach. The genius insists on playing his best player against a garbage team that has no chance of winning whether Cook plays or not. Cook is a hell of a back and will be scary if he’s healthy in the playoffs. I guess Zimmer’s stupidity is good for the Packers, but I never want to see a great player injured, no matter how much I dislike the team they’re on.

  5. I hope he plays well.

Just please don’t show him crying on the ground anymore. It’s like those “you can save a child’s life” or “save this beaten dog” commercials.

    Sad and pathetic.

I feel like there is a lot of weirdness going on, i think cook got hurt earlier as was favoring his arm. I do wonder if it was a playoff game would he be back. Was it a flare up from his shoulder in college, cuz we have heard everythig from chest to shoulder clavicle. The Vikings have seemed to bebhandling stars injuries a bit uniquely.

  7. Sit Cook, play Mattison he is more than capable. If the V8ikes cannot beat the Lions at home without Cook and Thielen, they do deserve to go to the play offs. Its not injured offensive players giving the Vikes fits at the moment. Its a defense not playing up to its potential.

  9. Sounds like they’re gonna shoot that fella up with pain killers until he doesn’t know what day it is … just so he can play.

And then, later that night after the game, when he’s coming down … Ouch! Sunday night / Monday morning is gonna be rough.

It’s amazing to think that a fully healthy back (Mattison) is less capable to making a contribution to the offense than a guy that’s being held together by pills and injections.

  10. In the three years both backs have been in the league, here are the two stat lines.

    2900 total yards, 18 TDs, 7 fumbles.
    2415 total yards, 27 TDs, 3 fumbles.

Over three years, 16 games per season, that is basically 12 yards per game more but way fewer TDs and more than twice as many fumbles.

Yes, one of them is limited. Lol.
