Nick Folk will rejoin the Patriots (unless he won’t)

He lost his appendix and his job in consecutive days. Nick Folk reportedly will be getting one of them back.

Folk is set to re-sign with the Patriots, according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL.

The 35-year-old kicker had an appendectomy on Thanksgiving, and the Patriots dumped him for Kai Forbath on Black Friday. Forbath got the boot after one game. Since then, the Patriots made an unsuccessful waivers claim for former 49ers kicker Chase McLaughlin.

Folk ultimately will not have missed a paycheck; he was cut after his Week 13 money was earned. He’ll be back for Week 14, without missing a beat albeit losing an organ.

UPDATED 11:23 a.m. ET: Rapoport has quickly backtracked, after coach Bill Belichick told reporters that Folk may not be coming back. Apparently, Folk may not be healthy enough to kick on Sunday.

  1. Well, at least we know that Tom Brady is a decent punter. I remember him kicking it away against the Bills and Broncos many years ago. There’s gotta be better kickers out there.

  2. As long as there’s no complications the surgery and hospital visit is fairly quick for this, but the recovery is not though. He’d be crazy to try and start kicking already.

I assumed with the toe injury Brady was practicing for it.

  3. Only Belicheat would force a guy to overexert himself a couple days after major surgery.

  4. He won’t be there to sign next week as the Cowboys will sign him. They have 10 days until there next game.

  5. In a possibly related development. Gus, the field goal kicking mule from a Don Knotts movie just got off a flight at Logan airport in Boston. Couldn’t be any worse than the kickers they have had this year.

  6. I can see why the Pats are interested, as Folk has won a few games for New England. Especially in 2017 when he played for the Bucs.

???? They still have the Punter Bailey, and he has kicked F.G.’s in College.

They would be more likely to always go for two, or go for it on fourth down than let Brady kick the ball!

Ok, wait, so he actually lost his job because of a medical issue??? That is messed up!

When you are a specialty position like kicker or punter and will be out for a couple of games, its not like a team has a backup ready to jump in. Since there is no short term IR a guy needs to be cut to bring a punter/kicker for a short time.

Clearly satirical. Although TB12 does have 3 punts for an average just over 38 yards in his career.
