Drew Brees: “Would have been nice to have” Jared Cook all game

The Saints didn’t get much from tight end Jared Cook in Sunday’s game against the 49ers, but what they got was pretty helpful.

Cook caught two passes for 64 yards and two touchdowns in the first quarter. He took a shot to the head on the second touchdown and suffered a concussion that knocked him out for the rest of the afternoon.

He missed a wild game that the 49ers won 48-46 and quarterback Drew Brees said after the contest that the Saints missed having Cook as they tried to scratch out a win.

“That’s definitely a factor,” Brees said at his press conference. “You know, he had two catches for from 68 yards and two touchdowns today. He was impactful. Would have been nice to have him, obviously felt like he would have had opportunities. He would’ve been able to compliment everything that we were doing.”

Cook will now need to clear the concussion protocol in order to try for a more sustained impact against the Colts in Week 15.

  1. It would be nice if the players never got injured.
I’ve seen teams lose good players for more than a game.
    Next man up.

Depth is a factor in a winning team.

  2. a (possible, but not certain) penalty vs knocking out one of the Saints top weapons?
seems like the one of the ways to beat the Saints in an important game.
49ers Knock out Pierre Thomas in the 1st Quarter in a playoff game going in for a score.
Rams knock out Coby Fleener, end his career.
49ers knock out Jared Cook in the 1st quarter after 2 TDs

  3. More bad calls costing us games. How does a drive get kept alive by the officials not once, but twice, and both calls on 3rd down ? Ridiculous !!!

I blame SP also for trying to go for 2 when there is no reason to. Kick the extra point and then at the end we would’ve been up by 3 just by simply, you guessed it, kicking the extra point… I really wish Peyton would get out of his own way especially when it comes to those type of decisions.

He cost us the Dallas game last year too by going for it on 4th down instead of just kicking a FG early in the game.

  4. Not to mention that is so hard to beat a team when they have refs on the roster. 9’ers may not lose again with them on the squad…

  5. Sounds like another big ol’, whining, excuse from bree’s quivering lips.
Meanwhile, jimmy graham is completely tearing it up in gb. (not really)

Oh the irony of saints fans talking about knocking players out of games from illegal hits LOL

    When did that happen?
    What specific player?
Ah HA, you cant answer because there IS none!
But you DID see the 49ers knock out the TE that was destroying them, with a very small cost to the 49ers,

  7. Poor Saints fans. You lost to a BETTER TEAM. What about the hit on Juscyck? How about the 2 bad PI calls that kept your drive going at the end of the 4th quarter. Niners D had a bit of a let down, but that’s expected. They are the BEST defense in the league period. After what I saw from the Seahawks last night, our defense is world’s better than any team right now. Saints were shut down on key plays and Garappolo and Kittle put you to bed. Give credit where credit is due Saints fans.

  8. Just the entire tenure of Greg Williams. Remember when Payton was suspended a whole year? Ignorance is bliss I suppose. Must be something in the gumbo.

Still waiting for that SPECIFIC PLAYER !
    (crickets…)
    Because there IS NONE!

You mean the Oscar winning performance that Juscyck portrayed? He is the one that lowered his head to hit the defender. What about the helmet to helmet block from Kittle that wasn’t called, he left the game for a few plays shaken up…no concussion protocol for him though. Where was the holding call on the fake punt??? I’m pretty sure that the 9’ers are the ones who had the 2 drive extending penalties. And won on a freak play with holding on 2 of the o-linemen…Santa Clara wasn’t the better team they just caught the lucky breaks with some help from the refs.

Saints your defensive line was pathetic and your secondary was worse. 49ers beat you fair and square.

    —————————————————–

Our D-line was pathetic and our secondary was worse but the SC 49’ers didn’t win fair and square.

  12. So there werent questionable calls against the 49ers all game? Saints didnt have a penalty till the second half. You guys are worse than seahawk fans. Good game tho.

I don’t recall any game changing calls against the 9’ers, unless you are referring to the uncalled offensive pass interference calls against them. None of the penalties against the 9’ers altered the flow of the games outcome. You can’t say the same thing for the Saints, the refs made those game changing calls against them.

  14. “I don’t recall any game changing calls against the 9’ers, unless you are referring to the uncalled offensive pass interference calls against them.”

I guess you skipped the fourth quarter then. The saints last two TD drives were both enabled by terrible calls on 3rd down that kept the offense on the field.

  15. It will be exciting to see this matchup again especially since no one is mentioning that the Saints was missing two key defensive players. When you think about this game, it was a slug fest. You had a healthy Niners team playing an unhealthy Saints team. When they meet again how will the Niners get better between now and then? Obviously the Saints will if they are healthy. The Saints had a special team guy starting at LB and it showed, Craig Robertson got beat all day, that will not happen to Klein or Alonzo. Next game will be entirely different, I wouldn’t be looking forward to a rematch if I were the Niners, of course they will have to get there first. I do not think they will, better yet I’d go as far as saying that they will loose to Atlanta this week. Atlanta is playing better, not only are they playing better their season is over, so they just want to beat anyone anyway they can. Especially if it means beating the Niners who beat the Saints just to make a statement. BET ON IT!!!
