Report: Odell Beckham told other players “come get me” in October

Remember the vague possibility that the Browns could have traded receiver Odell Beckham Jr. before the October 29 deadline? Beckham apparently wanted it to be more than a vague possibility.

Sunday’s report from Jay Glazer of FOX indicating that Beckham has told other players and coaches to “come get me” didn’t specify time frames or teams. Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports reports that Beckham made those comments to opposing players during “at least” one game in October.

In October, the Browns played the 49ers, Seahawks, and Patriots. San Francisco tried to trade for Beckham last year, and Beckham has spoken publicly about his admiration for the Patriots and quarterback Tom Brady, going over the top in his press conference during the week before facing New England. Both traded for receivers before the 2019 deadline.

Still, the question posed here a month ago tomorrow still stands — and if anything it’s more pressing: Where will Beckham play in 2020?

Increasingly, it feels like he won’t be playing in Cleveland.

  1. If true, the guy would have played for two teams and ran himself out of town both times. Why would any team knowingly volunteer to be the third team? Eventually teams will realize that no player is worth it, aside from a true franchise QB.

  2. Wont it be funny if:

    Titans sweep Houston
Steelers lose to Bills n Ravens
    Cleveland wins out

That means the Texans are out based on Conference record.

Steelers are out based on division record.

Browns are out after a first round loss in playoffs v. Chiefs or Titans.

  3. I remember seeing Beckham track down JimmyG immediately following the Niner game and whispering some things to him. They are still likely one of his preferred destinations.

  4. Eagles need to go get this guy in the offseason, even if he is a head case. They have zero talent at receiver right now, Jeffery & Jackson aren’t getting younger, agholor stinks & will be gone. Find a way to get rid of Jeffery & bring OBJ in. For teams in great shape like Baltimore, makes no sense but for a team lacking talent and desperate for a playmaker, it’s a gamble but it’s worth the risk, especially when you can’t draft worth a damn

  5. I hope it works out for him like Randy Moss. Have a career year, go 18-0, lose in the Super Bowl. Then again,OBJ would probably be ecstatic with those results.

  6. After this year I’m not sure many people are gonna want to sign up to play with Brady it’s pretty obvious Brady isn’t what he use to be.

  7. Not sure why Cleveland gave up so much for Beckham, he looked like a problem child from the beginning.
To think he was begging other teams to trade for him this year while playing for Cleveland well he should be banned for a year.

  8. After the Antonio Brown episode I thought all my popcorn will be wasted but thanks to OBJ and Kitchens and Mayfield I may in fact run out of it. Thanks guys

  9. man we shoulda seen cleveland stinking . theyre definitely better than theyve been in a long time (sad but true). but you dont build a team around receivers, landry and beckham are excellent but almost everything else on this team is somewhere around average

  10. GM’s put their jobs on the line every time they sign a high profile free agent, or trade for a big money player. When the price tag exceeds the production, that GM becomes an ex-GM. Any takers? crickets….

  11. Locker room cancer. There is a reason the Giants got rid of him despite his talent. His selfishness cancels out his talent.

  12. The guy made a great TD catch! (Well the sticky gloves made the catch), but he has bought all the sloppy kiss stories written about him. His head has swollen like the attendance of an NFL game in Mexico after kick off!
I just cannot stand these players that pump themselves up after some bit of success in this game. Get over yourself, and be a leader like Jerry Rice, and not just another Keshawn Johnson, or Michael Irvin…

  13. OBJ is the kind of player you want to sign to a contract with no bonus and no guarantee, just a big salary. Then if he gets fed up or acts up, you can trade him and not get stuck with dead money.

  14. I don’t get the OBJ bashing. If the Browns were winning and he was being a cancer that’s one thing but they’re not winning. I don’t blame the guy for being bitter. He’s the best WR in the NFL and Baker doesn’t throw him the ball. And yes he’s usually open.

  15. So glad the Giants chose to stick it to Odell. If they had traded him to San Francisco, we would not have gotten Emmanuel Sanders who is everything that OBJ is not – a dedicated, team-first player who comes up big in big games and elevates the play of those around him. Sanders is also tough as nails and drama-free!

  16. I thought it was the dumbest trade of all time in the first place. I’m sure the Giants were laughing about how dumb it was. I bet most teams wouldn’t have wanted him had they given him away for nothing. The Browns? Well they traded a first and a third and Jabril Peppers. Now we learn that in October he already wanted out. It’s hard to blame him but this guy is nothing but drama. How many teams are really going to be interested in this guy? I wouldn’t be surprised if the Patriots were to sign him because BB thinks he can fix every reclamation project (just like he did with AB and Haynesworth and others).

  17. Time to grow up son … the Browns are not trading you – they gave away a good player and 2 high picks to the Giants for you. Time to lose the diva attitude, lose the junior high school attitude, and become a professional football player On the field instead of prancing around off the field. Now shut the heck up and for once – earn your pay check.

  18. There’s an obvious desire on his end to go to New England. New England would like to add a true number one reciever. The only question regarding that marriage is whether or not New England is ready to handle another headcase diva at that position. You’d think not, but Brady is showing his age and New England went out of their way the last few years (1st round pick on Harry, trading for Gordon, and signing A.B.) to bolster their WR corps with top level talent, or at least to try. That makes me think they’ll try, but the biggest reason is how different Beckham and Brown are. Beckham is a headcase and a massive diva, but there’s no real concern that he would be accused of anything criminal. I wouldn’t say that it is a sure thing, but I would say that I would not be surprised to see them decide to give it one more try before Brady retires.

Unless OBJ is willing to take a HUGE paycut there’s no way he’ll ever go to NE!

  20. Coach Kitchens is clueless. You got Rashard Higgins who all he does is catch touch downs have ZERO offensive snaps last game and you got OBJ going into week 15 averaging more pre snap penalties per game than catches. This guy branded himself perfectly all based on one catch several years ago. News Flash coach- HE’S NOT THAT GOOD!

  21. I wouldn’t say he’s accomplished nothing. Stats for his first few years are pretty impressive. But I’d take a John brown, Julian Edelman or ju ju any day of the week over obj or Landry.. “I” players rarely win over the long haul or consistently

  22. Anyone remember all of that preseason hype about the Browns? People picked them for the Super Bowl…. the SUPER BOWL!!! lmfao! I said this then and I’ll say it now… there are ZERO leaders on that football team. Zero. It takes more than talent to win in the NFL. Every player has to come together and believe in the same thing. Together. Now look at that team and tell me they’re all pulling the same way. Right. That’s what I thought…… lmao… the Super Bowl. Y’all are too much

  23. For a guy that leads the team in drops and half Mayfields picks have bounced off OBJ hands …. He sure thinks a lot of himself

  24. Browns have won 4 of their last 5 games since then. Just means the guy is a sore loser which we all knew already as most diva receivers are. Also these reports don’t have context so the seriousness of the conversation if it even happened is being assumed.

Uhhh…they have the NFL’s leading rusher

  26. Oh how i remember before the season started ALL the garbage noise concerning the Browns this or that about being contenders and the team to watch! LOL my my most of us knew better…….

  27. Wont it be funny if:

That is actually surprisingly likely. I would love that

  28. I actually hope they ship obj for a first rounder. I hate the Randy ratio that Kitchens is trying to do with him. Just let him take double coverage and throw to him deep when he’s one-on-one. It’s not rocket science.
