Kerryon Johnson: I like to play, want to return even with Lions out of contention

Lions running back Kerryon Johnson hasn’t played since hurting his knee in the sixth game of the season, and he won’t play this week, either. But he hopes his season isn’t over.

Johnson says that even though the Lions are mathematically eliminated from the playoffs, he wants to get back on the field in Week 16 and Week 17 because he loves playing football.

“As stupid as some people may see it, I like to play, man,” Johnson said, via the Detroit Free Press. “I did all this work in the offseason, did all this work in the summer, and I didn’t do it to play five games. Obviously, my goal every year is to play a full season. Two seasons down, I’m 0 for 2. But getting to [seven games], whatever it might be, is better than where I’m at now.”

That’s the attitude of the vast majority of NFL players: For all the talk from fans about whether teams should tank for higher draft picks, players want to play, and want to win. Johnson is hoping to get two more chances to do that.

Nah man, that’s normal, players want to play. What’s stupid is Bob Quinn and Matt Patricia will be back for another season of The Circus.

I mean really, in what alternative reality does this clown show deserve to continue? Ford’s World, that’s where.

  2. “But I thought nobody wanted to play for Patricia”
    —————————————-
He wants to play “for himself” because of his love for the game.

  3. He was injured when Patricia and Quinn scouted him. Nice player, but injury-prone in college and the pros.

  4. Love the attitude. Now sit on the bench. The season is over and we can’t have you winning any more meaningless games to lieu of our draft position.

  5. LOLOLOLOL, Are the Lions ever in contention?

I can’t even remember their last playoff win, wasn’t that during the Gulf War?

  6. I dont think his view is normal.

Leveon Bell,OBJ,Antonio Brown,Albert Haynesworth, Randy Moss, that practice squad player from the raiders…

Once a lot of these guys get paid, they dont care.

  7. Patricia will have at least 1 more year. People forget Stafford was playing great before going done with a back injury. After that, the Lions imploded. But, Patricia has done enough to see where this goes…

  8. When I hear the word tank, I know it’s coming from someone who doesn’t know what they’re talking about. There has never been an NFL organization that came together and decided to purposely lose. There have been some really bad GM’s. Have been some bad coaches. Been teams with a lot of bad players. And that often leads to losing seasons. Teams are bad because they’re poorly managed, and that usually begins with bad ownership. Most of the poorly run teams would blow it with the top picks anyway, so tanking wouldn’t help them. Look at the top ten teams right now, and look at each of their QB’s, and make a list of the round they were drafted. Many were not even first round picks. Please go ahead and complete that list before responding. Lamar Jackson, Jimmy Garoppolo, Tom Brady, Russell Wilson, Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers, Kurt Cousins. Of this list, only Rodgers and Lamar Jackson were first rounders, and Rodgers was the 24th pick, and Jackson #32. But poorly run teams would probably choose a guard if they had a really low pick.

I think you need to check the definition of normal. When your referring to only a couple players and you have to bring up guys who havent played in 8 years your talking about under 1% of nfl players so those guys are anomalies, they are the exception not the rule.

  10. The 2020 Preseason has already started for the Lions. Let him heal until the regular season 2020 begins. Same with Stafford.

Patricia hasn’t done enough to see where this goes. It’s going south and it will continue to as long as he’s the head coach. His defense is a joke. It was before Stafford got hurt. Stop with the excuses. He’s not a good coach. Quinn is a terrible GM too. Time to clean house in Detroit.

  12. It’s not normal to enjoy nfl play. It’s a miserable job that pays well. What is normal is maintaining yourself for future work at that high pay rate.

How many times are you going to clean house? I agree the D needs to improve, but the Lions were competitive early…losing only by 1pt to Green Bay, and 4pts to KC. Patricia Is trying to change the culture in Detroit, that doesn’t happen overnight. Will Patricia succeed? I don’t know. But, firing him this early is pointless. You want to fire the DC? Ok. But don’t go crazy. Is there some stud HC available? Is he going to go to Detroit? I think we all know the answer.

  14. You know who doesn’t want to play? Ju’Waun James of the Broncos. This bum signed a $51mil contract before the season and has played 63 snaps because he simply isn’t “mentally ready”. $17mil this season. Let’s do the math, $17mil/63 snaps=$200k/snap. Kerryon Johnson could teach this man baby a lesson, being soft is a disease in the NFL.

  15. The Lions clearly have their 2 head beast if they allow Johnson to return ! Is management that stupid also on OFFENSE ?!

  16. Well, a lot of Americans jsut became a fan of this kid, even if we don’t much care for his team

Nice to see that some American values are still alive and well

Good luck Kerryon, in the NFL and beyond

  17. The Lions will probably draft a wide receiver in the 1st round next year. They don’t know how to draft. The Hockenson pick was awful. Quinn should lose his job over that one.
