Russell Wilson believes Josh Gordon will be back with the Seahawks

The NFL has once again suspended receiver Josh Gordon, this time for violating both the PED policy and the substance-abuse policy. Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson believes that Gordon eventually will be back in Seattle.

“I got pretty close with Josh,” Wilson told reporters this week. “You’re going to miss him obviously as a player, but more importantly as a friend and as a guy you bonded with pretty quickly. We’ve been staying in touch and all that. I just pray for him. I really believe that prayer works. I really believe that relationships and friendships work in supporting no matter what we go through. We all have stuff. We all have things that we go through. I’m just praying for him and rooting for him. He’ll overcome. He’s going to overcome, and I really believe that. Hopefully, he’ll get another chance to play with us because he was fun to play with.”

Wilson touted Gordon’s work ethic and desire for greatness, while also elaborating on his sense that Gordon will be back.

“I just believe,” Wilson said. “For me, I have no other choice to just believe that he’s going to overcome it. Why would you think the other way? I think for me and just my faith and all that, I just fundamentally believe that prayer works. Just praying for him and rooting that he can overcome.”

It’s unclear when Gordon ran afoul of the PED and substance-abuse policies, but based on the way Wilson characterized Gordon’s time in Seattle, it sounds like everything went well there.

“I think this environment has been great for him, to be honest with you,” Wilson said. “He really fit in, in terms of just the everyday part of the process. Since day one he got here, he was studying and working and highlighting. Doing all the extra work. He had the biggest smile on his face. I talked to him a little bit about that, too. He was just like, ‘Man, this is the place I want to be. This is the place that helped changed my life a little bit and I’m getting better.’ I think that all those things, you hope that he can come back to us and play with us. More importantly, it’s about him. It’s about his soul. It’s about life. It’s about all the things that we all have to go through and overcome.”

Gordon has continued to fight to overcome the issues that have kept him off the field. Still only 28, Gordon may have some good football left, if he can indeed make it back, again, and stick around, for a change.

  1. Wilson and his fake and annoying rah rah, happy cheerleader speech. Gordon had every opportunity to stop doing what he’s been doing. He chose to keep breaking the rules. He won’t be back in the league and he only has himself to blame.

  2. This kid had his locker next to Tom Brady AND Russell Wilson. The 2 biggest leaders in the NFL. And he still couldn’t hold it together. He’s toast. Good luck in whatever life brings your way Josh, but it won’t be on a football field. Get clean for your kids, man. We’re all rooting for you.

  3. With Gordon, it’s obviously not the location that matters. It’s what’s in his head. Know thyself is a difficult thing for most of us to do. Counseling would do this man some good if he’s willing to buy in. Best of luck to him.

  4. Strike 3 and you’re out. Playing in the NFL is privilege and Josh will now found out that the NFL can get a long quite nicely without him. He’s had plenty of chances, so time to go.

Ah you’ve been listening to that loud mouth malcontent who used to be on our squad.

Call him what you want, and I know he isn’t everyone’s cup of tea but 2 things you and everybody should know about Russell Wilson by now

He will go out of his way for anybody and everybody who he considers a friend

There are no lies coming from him here, he really does think, and believe Gordon and will be back and wants nothing but the best for him.

Josh Gordon has had plenty chances yes, but a couple of things warrant remembering

This isn’t about point scoring, this is about somebody’s life here. Show a little humanity huh?

His issues are with weed and booze, and for all the stories anyone has heard about his goings on, not once has there ever been a hint of anybody else being harmed by what he is doing, except himself, that’s what makes this heart breaking, the only person he was hurting is himself.

There is a chance he was popped before he git to Seattle because Wilson’s testimony aside, there have been other reports about how settled and happy he seemed and said he was when he got there. Maybe the city is good for him, and like Wilson, I believe he should just be kicked to the curb.

  6. This comment section highlights in a nutshell why we have as many issues as we do, and why homeless veterans suffer. There’s this idea that it is a “choice.”

It is a proven fact that some people have different wiring in their brain, making them more prone to alcoholism, gambling, and drug use. For some people it’s worse than others, but it’s not something they can easily control. Some people love to tell a story about their family member who overcame it, which shows yet again they don’t understand the psychology of it.

Maybe if America read more psychology books we can actually be as great as we say we are and support our fellow Americans suffering. And understand substance abuse can be far more complex than the overly simplistic social media snarkiness that plagued the internet. Seattle is clearly the right place for Gordon, and he has a better chance of succeeding because he won’t have unGodly folks snubbing their nose at him.

  7. The fact the NFL won’t specify what he got busted for (AL Woods they said PED) makes me think it’s pot which should not be of concern to the league.

Come on NFL it’s not the 1950s.

Oh, please. Save me with “he’s a victim” sob story. The NFL is a privilege, not a right. He chose to get high and drunk when he knows it’s against the rules. He’s not smart enough or does not care enough to abide by the rules. Get out of here with “showing compassion” speech. He’s had chances. He’s made his bed. It’s his fault, and no one else’s. Period.

  9. He will never play again. The tank was empty before the failed test. His problem robbed us all of his potential greatness. His future will be full of regrets. Very sad ending.

That might be the case with addictive recreational drugs, but what’s your excuse for Gordon using PEDs?

While Gordon’s brain might be “wired differently”, at some point enough is enough. Gordon has been suspended 5 times now, including the entire 2015 and 2016 seasons. He has been forgiven over and over again.

If you want to keep forgiving him, good for you, but taking PEDs is cheating and he should not be in the NFL. I feel the same way about all of the players that cheat by taking PEDs.

  11. I’m just praying for him and rooting for him. He’ll overcome. He’s going to overcome, and I really believe that. Hopefully, he’ll get another chance to play with us because he was fun to play with

    —————————————————————————-

Prayers for Gorden are all well and good… but at what point does he have to take personal responsibility for his actions?

I disagree that he’ll overcome, he’s had numerous chances and he’s messed it up each time.

I don’t see him on an NFL roster ever again, too bad, the kid has some talent

  12. I’ve got some bad news for you Rus he’s all done in the NFL. If you care about him pray for him, because his addictions have him in a vice like grip thats been unbreakable to this point. After all of his rehab stints you would have thought the last one would have been the one to finally help him stay clean, but unfortunately he has failed yet again. Addiction like his ends one of three ways you either beat it, or toy end up dead or in jail

  13. Well if it is just weed then he may have a chance to play again. It seems that Jerry Jones is in favor of relaxing the marijuana policy. Anyway, Gordon won’t be playing in 2020 for sure.

  14. Weed or whatever it is if our employer’s have a no drug policy we all got to abide by it so quit making the it’s only weed excuses for this guy. Plenty of states with legal weed laws still have companies who drug test you for thc and can terminate you for violating the rules so it’s this idiots fault he had his chances and keeps blowing them hopefully we don’t see this clown in the league again….

  15. I’m hoping Russell can help him with support and the young fellow gets cleaned up & has a better shot at reinstatement. I would not bet on his reinstatement, however. Sad deal he dealt himself. The cards are face up with no bluffing with them. He is basically going to have to ask “hit me” on 18…….not good.

  16. It’s not only weed, the guy is a junk box. It’s insane that it’s always “he will be back” maybe make him think he will never be back . He might finally get it. This guy has said the same stuff so many times only to let everyone down. The nfl is such a short career, he already spent most of it high. He should have just stopped for five years and made enough money for the rest of his life and went on smoking weed tmand living good. The guy is pretty much broke, he has yet to be a free agent except after he got cut. He hasnt accured enough seasons amd the guy is 28. He also has lost a step or just wasnt used tight by the Pat’s. Josh gordon isnt a deep ball guy only. He is a catch a ten yard slant and out run everyone or plow over everyone kinda guy. He will have alot of regrets. He was compared to mega tron at one point. Guy had 2 games of over 200 yards in a row with the browns awfulnQB situation. He could have been an all time great but never cared or wanted to get help.

Good to have one of the physicians from the NFL testing site to fill us in.

Don’t you have to worry about HIPAA?

  18. Josh has personal issues. I get that but if he deserves to be banished what should the Patriots and or Belicheat get for being caught CHEATING 3 times in 10 years?

  19. Don’t know if it’s true, but someone said they saw Josh Gordon at Patriots/Bills game. That’s fine, if they’ll let him be there, it’s only the PEDhawks he has to stay away from while suspended.

  20. Penny-pinching Mode (PPM) needs players who will play for peanuts because they cannot find a job anywhere else in the NFL. PPM needs them because PPM is nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn paying the MVP Wannabe 35 million bucks per season, and there is little but table scraps left for the rest of the roster.
