Dalvin Cook out; Alexander Mattison questionable

The Vikings ruled out running back Dalvin Cook for Sunday’s game.

Cook’s shoulder injury limited him in practice all week after he missed Monday night’s game with his injury.

His backup, Alexander Mattison, also was limited all week with an ankle injury. He is questionable.

Mattison has missed the past two games.

The Vikings also ruled out linebacker Eric Kendricks with a quadriceps injury that sidelined him after 36 snaps against the Packers on Monday night. He did not practice this week.

Safety Jayron Kearse (foot) and cornerback Mackensie Alexander (knee) are questionable.

Alexander was an addition to the injury report Friday after a limited practice.

Kearse was a full participant all week.

The Vikings already know they have the sixth seed in the NFC playoffs no matter the result of their game against the Bears on Sunday. So they are expected to rest some starters anyway, including quarterback Kirk Cousins.

  1. The 2nd humiliating beat down by the Packers on Monday night has given our resident Viking trolls some much needed time over the holidays to contemplate their poor life choices.

  2. Packer trolls have their Vikings alerts on I see. Hey, why doesn’t that ‘stellar’ guy come here and tell us how the Vikings trolls are always on their teams articles.

Cousins, Cook, Mattison, Kendricks, Barr, Smith, Diggs, Thielen, Waynes, Joseph, and maybe a couple others. Why would you play them? And don’t tell me; “because it was a bad game against the Packers”. 1 game does not equal 6-7 months of practice and games. The Vikings are on a bye week this week. You do not risk injury in a meaningless game.

  3. No way Mattison plays. Gonna be a boring game — almost as boring as the predictable cheeser comments the past week. At least they are rotating their various user names. Maybe the Viking victory helps soften the pain of watching their franchise QB’s skills steadily decline (and this is coming from a Viking fan that actually respects the guy).

  4. Cry a little more guys. Just like Dalvin did. You sowed, now you reap. Your team is captained by Kirk Cousins for another year of cap-constrained football. Skulp!

  5. I had a comment early on in the year about how while Dalvin Cook was playing great, we’d see if he could keep up the load through a full season as he hadn’t yet proven he could.

    I was down-voted like crazy.

Well guess who couldn’t handle a full season worth of games with out being injured? Dalvin Cook. Kid is talented, but can not stay healthy.

  6. @PackerLies..
    Nobody is crying dude.
Except Packer Trolls EVERY TIME there is an article on the Vikings.
Can’t you guys just stay away?

I mean it is SO old.

  7. Packer trolls have been down right giddy all week. Who can blame them? It’s been awhile since their team has been relevant.

No way Mattison plays, or any other significant starter, for that matter. Let’s go into the playoffs relatively healthy and see what happens from there.

  8. C’mon, guys, you’re smarter than this. That’s the same guy that trolls the Packers in his Viking costumes. If we all ignore him we can all try and talk football in a reasonable manner. And in that vain…

I think it’s wise to rest their starters. Even Cousins. Especially Cousins, maybe. He’s had enough experience that he doesn’t need “a tuneup to get back in the swing of things.” They’re locked in at 6 either way and 6 is doable, albeit difficult.

  9. As a Vikings fan I’m looking forward to the wild card game, but hold out little hope of victory. They haven’t shown this year that they can beat good teams. I would say the same for the Packers. Both will be watching the NFCC game from their couches.

  10. beer4guy, since you’re obviously suffering convenient memory loss syndrome, let me help you refresh the facts in your barely conscious mind about relevancy. In the past 5 seasons 2014 – 18 the Pack has made the playoffs 3 times and played in 7 playoff games. Meanwhile the nearly irrelevant barneys have made the playoffs twice and played in a total of 3 playoff games. Once again, you prove the point that you mini trolls are all stricken with dissociation from reality disorder.

  11. I think Florio is right, in his video clip. Vikes had under 150 yards from scrimmage in total last week! I think you rest Cook and Theilen because of injury, but sitting starters who aren’t hurt doesn’t sit well with me. They should refund half the ticket prices if they do.

  12. The Vikings and Packers are frauds, neither will win a playoff game.

  13. I guess the key to stopping Packers fans from commenting on Vikings posts would be to police your own fans until they stopped commenting on Packers posts.

    Until that stops…

Man. Sweeping the Vikings sure was great. And Cook is really always broken.

  14. I have been watching football for a long time and this was a season of firsts. First time I have ever been seen a credited touchdown taken off the board. First time I have ever seen a fan base celebrate a week 2 regular season win so passionately for so long. First time I have ever seen a team celebrate a week 16 win so passionately

I would have to agree but the pack is going to lose to the lions and the Vikings will win in lamblow.

Ive never seen a fanbase celebrate division titles so passionately when the Lombardi is the only real goal.

  17. Those same Packer fans were saying two years ago Division titles dont matter, only Lombardis do. Funny how that changes huh?
