Tom Brady: Too many bad mistakes

The Patriots needed a win over the Dolphins to secure a bye through the first round of the AFC playoffs, but they started slow and finished poorly during a 27-24 loss.

After the game, head coach Bill Belichick said that the Patriots “didn’t do anything well enough today to deserve to win” and quarterback Tom Brady was sending a similar message at his press conference.

“Yeah, it was just we didn’t play the way we’re capable of playing and it ended up costing us. Just too many bad mistakes,” Brady said.

One of those bad mistakes came on a throw that Dolphins cornerback Eric Rowe picked off and returned for a touchdown in the first half. Brady was 16-of-29 for 221 yards overall and said that he has “no problems” physically as the team gets set to play next weekend.

There were other issues for New England, however, and some included the defense’s struggles against the Miami passing game. They’ll have to clean those up quickly or the team’s playoff stay could be a short one.

  1. The playoffs are not going to go well for the Patriots. They really need some offensive help. Maybe next year…

  2. I also think this game was some well needed humble pie for Gilmore. Seemed to be openly lobbying for DPOY way more than I cared to see. He got taken to school.

Good reality check and his post game comments told me it registered with him. Time to zip it and play ball.

  3. As Patriots fans we have been spoiled over the years. I consider myself a realistic fan and over the second half of the season it is evident they dont have the horses to do anything in the play-offs. Fingers will point to Brady and his decline and whilst there is some truth to that the play of the offensive line has been horrible and apart from a beaten up Edelman they have no receiving threats. Too many off season mistakes and a poor draft did not help.

In all honesty I would not be shocked to see them get bounced by Tennessee next week. It will be an interesting off season for sure.

  4. No more illegal taping as now everyone’s hyper-aware. Bye bye, Tom. Be sure to write a reveal-all memoir book in the offseason. Let it burn, baby. Burn.

  5. Its Always darkest before the dawn I believe in the Pat’s more then ever they won’t quit! its playoff time everyone is 0-0 ignore the noise keep grinding. 🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆

  6. I think the next time the Patriots have a defense that look like they are doing great things they should hold off on the nicknames like boogeymen until they play NFL caliber offenses.

  7. Brady left the field with a lead, not counting the 25 second ‘drive’ at the end which was essentially garbage time. This one is on the D.

Brady was also not very good today even if you disregard the pick 6

  9. Terripet your schtick is old and predictable. Give it a rest already. You make every person who criticizes the pats look like a sore loser. I won’t count em out, but they look old and just not talented enough this year. D is solid but offense can’t muster anything. Tennessee is going to be a rough matchup. Not sure TN can pull off the upset, but it’s gonna be close.

Nice to see an objective Pats fan. Hat off to you – and I think you are right. Brady is clearly in decline – but that ain’t all that’ wrong. BB needs to re-tool – and I think he will – but it has to start with a realistic appraisal of what you are working with.

  11. I think it’s sadly time for TB12 to walk into the sunset. His throws look like garbage and he’s just not hitting the receivers, and his pick 6s are mounting.

  12. Good thing the pats spent all that cap space on Antonio Brown this year. Imagine if they would’ve saved it and acquired a tight end or another receiver who played more than one game

  13. Brady should put the blame on Belichick where it belongs.
Great HC but sucks when it comes to finding weapons for Brady.

Kraft should remove BB from the Draft and making Trades at least on Offense.

  14. The “boogey men” choked. Deatrich Wise helps the team most when he’s hurt. When he’s on the field all he does is commit huge penalties.

    Brady n cheaters are done

Littlepet always provides us with such thoughtful, stimulating commentary. He just fills the page with his wit. Sometimes I do wish he wasn’t quite so verbose though.

  16. Never thought we’d see a meaningful game where BB would tuck his tail between his legs but that’s what I saw just before the half ended.

Wow – just wow. I’m not a Pats fan but Belichick having final say in player personnel decisions has worked out pretty well for you guys hasn’t it? SMH.

  18. That was a bad loss. The Pats got outplayed. The D looked mortal against a pretty mediocre offense. The team spent the day chasing a 4-11 team instead of the other way around. Brady is miss-firing and the WR’s keep dropping passes. This team could still go on a run and win it all, but they need to play a lot better. It seems like the odd years are injury plagued ones for the Pats and they eventually succumb to them in the playoffs.

There isn’t all doom and gloom, though. Harry looked good, they ran it well, and Elandon Roberts had a great catch. The team is set up pretty well for the future, but they need some more talent at WR and TE to be a more complete offense going forward.

  19. Brady is struggling
don’t know if he can put it behind him
last two minutes of first half was a joke
    Daniels looked like an idiot
and to think, he is up for consideration as a head coach
any team that signs him, it shows what he can do with an average team
    nothing

  20. I love this “it’s over talk”. The Pats had a bad year??? 12-4, made the playoffs. How absurd does that sound? How many teams would kill for that? The Pats have been to the Super Bowl how many time this decade? Half of it and half of the one before it. That’s not supposed to happen, yet it did. This season is still not over and although I don’t expect them to make it back, it wouldn’t surprise me if they did.

  21. Did Belicheat run to the locker room without congratulating the Dolphins again? What a sad, sourfaced, sore loser!

  22. Play Calling factors in but missed throws do too.

Hates what would you rather have – Brady retire this year or next? If this year than you had better hope that he wins it all!

  23. Lol gotta love the Patriots homer talk. Before the season they thought the offense would be better than the 2007 season and now they want Brady and belichick gone? What a sad life they live

  24. Here’s the thing about Brady.

No question his elbow is bothering him. He’s playing like any 42 year old QB with that injury would. He would never admit it or walk away for that reason though- it would be an admission of failure for the “TB12 way” and the whole pliability thing. He is too heavily invested in the TB12 brand to see that happen because of him.

He is going to try and stick around, no question about it. Whether Bill agrees to it- we’ll see.

  25. “The playoffs are not going to go well for the Patriots. They really need some offensive help. Maybe next year…”

That’s an understatement! The NUMBER 1 offensive piece that you need for 2020 is a new QB!!! Good Luck with that…THE PARTY IS OVER!!!!!!!

Hey, I love to pile on the Pats as a lifelong Fins fan, but that is “Fake News”. He absolutely met Flores after the game.

If N.E. wants any chance of going far into the playoffs, they should start Stidham.
At the very least, it could get them past a team that’s not expecting Brady on the bench.
Otherwise, they’ll have to dust off some crazy trick plays to try and jump start their weak offense.

I hate that too. But nope. They shook hands.
