Eagles are underdogs for sixth straight postseason game, won four of last five

The bad news for the Eagles is that they’re underdogs on Sunday against the Seahawks. The good news is they have plenty of experience winning as underdogs in the playoffs.

Sunday’s game will be the sixth playoff game for the Eagles over the last three postseasons, and the sixth time they’ve been underdogs. They won four of the previous five.

After losing quarterback Carson Wentz in 2017, the Eagles were underdogs in all three of their postseason games with Nick Foles at quarterback. They beat the Falcons and Vikings at home in the playoffs and then beat the Patriots in the Super Bowl.

In 2018 the Eagles again lost Wentz and turned to Foles, and they again opened the playoffs as underdogs, at Chicago. They won that game before losing the next week as underdogs at New Orleans.

Favorites have been far from a safe bet recently in the NFL playoffs. In fact, they’ve been more like a coin flip: The Eagles going 4-1 as playoff underdogs has contributed to an 11-11 record for underdogs in the last two NFL postseason.

  1. Bad news? You’re not paying attention, this team THRIVES as the dog, especially at home in the playoffs. I was nervous when they were favorite & relieved when the line moved towards Seattle. Couple that with Wilson being 0-3 in last 3 road playoff starts & the disappointment of losing on the goal line to SF last week, eagles fans should be feeling good going into this game. None of that means the eagles win though, RW is a great QB & they have a great coach, so this game could go either way; I’m sure Seattle is confident as well they should be. It should be a great game that is won (or lost) in the 4th quarter. I got Tennessee (23-20), Houston (31-24), saints (38-21) & eagles (26-24) on a GW Jake Elliott 44 yd FG that doinks off the right upright and goes in…no double doink as that is reserved for da bears.

  2. Roll the eagles like he rolled them a month ago? Yes; I know who won the game but not because of RW or the Eagles defense. The offense was putrid but wentz is on a far different level than he was then & the defense is lights out at home. The game you should care about is the Vikings/Saints game, better hope for another miracle or it’s 1 & done for an overrated packers team. It probably is anyhow, eagles/hawks game. The Vikings are the only team the packers would beat but that can’t happen next week

  3. Maybe you should wait until he actually plays a playoff game or two before attempting a joke that currently makes no sense. Pretty ironic to make such a dumb, baseless joke & have a username claiming you have an IQ that’s anything higher than that of a goldfish. Good try, loser

  4. Russell Wilson is 2-4 in his last 6 playoff games, which includes the one in which he threw the “Butler did it” interception at the goal line. Seattle has also lost 3 of its last 4 games heading into the playoffs. The only 2 road playoff games Russell Wilson has won in his entire career are the game in which RGIII got the Redskins the lead before he injured his knee and couldn’t continue, and the one in which Minnesota’s Blair Walsh missed a last second field goal of less than 30 yards that would have won it for the Vikings. These are all interesting statistics that show Seattle will have a more difficult time winning than the oddsmakers predicted.

  5. Would have won 5 of 5 if the football doesn’t bounce out of Alshon’s hands vs Saints. Go Eagles!!!

  6. First of all, no team can either help who they play on their schedule, since, you know they DON’T make the schedules out themselves. You can only play the teams in front of you. After all, a VERY POOR NFC West is how Seattle got to 2 straight SBs and I didn’t read anyone say they never played anyone at the time. Second, Wilson will roll the Eagles? With what? They’ve built their team on a running game and lost their top 3 RBs; their LT and center are out; Kendricks is out on defense. The Eagles, since Schwartz has been DC gives up an average of 16 points per game—that’s the best in the league.

  7. Eagles last five games: they had their final five games against four of the six worst defenses in the NFL. Four games against three teams that were in tank mode positioning for the draft. One game against a washed up benched quarterback. One game against a team whose entire line backing corps was hurt and whose QB (who is spotty to begin with) was playing with an injured AC joint in his throwing arm and a fractured finger on his throwing hand. Four* games against teams with lameduck coaches who have since been fired. No games against a team above .500.

What a miraculous 4-1 finish! HOW did they pull it off?!

Seattle played 49ers to get to their super bowl slaughter of the Broncos and Arizona made the playoffs as a wild card team while Seattle got the 1 seed again the following year. Try knowing what you write before making a fool of yourself-

  10. The Eagles are garbage that play in a garbage division.

Let’s see, the year they won the SB it was an all NFC West NFC Championship – which was really the SuperBowl.

Avg wins per team in the NFC West that year – 10.5 wins.

The following season, Seattle’s second trip to the SB, avg wins per NFC West team – 9.25

This year the NFC Least avg wins per team – 6

    Be better.

  12. Eli two Super Bowl Rings ,and guess what he actually won playoff games and MVP of Super Bowl appearances ,,Wents needs to do a lot of work before he’s in Eli’s league !

  13. Let’s review the bulk of the wins.

NFC West avg wins per team – 9.5

NFC Least avg wins per team – 6

One team has more wins vs harder competition.

    Guess who?

Yet Eags saying Philly thrives as underdogs.

With a different QB though – right?

    Kind of an important position?

Like in the past it was almost an entirely different team?

We do know Wentz has fared poorly vs good teams this year.

    We do know that.

  15. When the Birds backs are against the wall…they Ball out. When they beat the Hawks. Then beat the over rated 49ers in their home. People will finally give Wentz (4 the troll Wentz’s inflated wallet) will get the respect he commands not demands. I predict the Birds to list to the Saints in the NCFCG.
    Superbowl: Ravens 37 Sants 24.

  16. Eli Manning is:
    Career QB Rating – 84.1
    Career Won/Loss – 117 – 117
    Career TD/INT Ratio – 366/244
    Career Completion Percentage: 60.3
    Career YPA: 7.1

    Mediocrity defined.

Their backs were against the wall against Seattle and New England this season, how’d those games turn out?

  18. Irrelevant, it’s a gambler’s spread. Eagles opened as favorites, betters moved the spread, not the guys that make the spread

  19. Nobody circles the wagons like the Eagles.

Funny all these blind haters will be nowhere to be found after the game.
But know we’ll be laughing at you from afar.
    Go Birds!

“Backs against the wall” means you have to win out. Against the Seattle and New England that wasn’t the case. If it were they wouldn’t be in the playoffs. Let’s try using our brains people.

Yes because they knew Dallas would implode.

    Brilliant.

Google “eagles backs against the walls” and you’ll find they claimed it before the first Seattle game, the New England game, the Dolphins game…

    LOL

But at that point you’re still not mathematically eliminated. I’m embarrassed with both of us.

Yeah, because if a 4th tier journalist uses that as the headline then it’s scripture. How embarrassing. Typical of our headline driven, sample size society. Be better folks.

If you’re familiar with journalism, they are saying that because the writer is promoting them too. You just think everyone just happened to have the same quote verbatim?
