Kyle Long “stepping away” from football

The Bears have gotten used to playing without Kyle Long for long stretches over the last four years, but that’s not going to be an issue for them in 2020.

Long announced on Twitter on Sunday that he’s not going to be playing at all.

Long wrote that he’s “stepping away and getting my body right” after multiple injuries. A hip injury limited him to four games this season, he missed half of the 2018 season with a foot injury and missed 26 games over the last four years.

Long was a first-round pick in 2013 and made the Pro Bowl after each of his first three seasons. The injuries brought that run to an end and now Long will be off to do other things rather than risk further aches and pains.

  1. It was this or be cut. Sounds like a mutual agreement to let both sides keep face. He was a great player in his prime, it’s just a shame his prime was when the rest of the team was garbage. Wish him the best.

  2. He knows the Bears will be garbage for years to come and doesnt want to waste his body. Smart move.

  3. Not a surprise, but a real shame. Thanks for the memories and enjoy your rest. BEAR DOWN!

  4. Some pretty lame attempts at humor on here. Just wish him well and shut your pie holes. That is all.

  5. As I recall there were some weird circumstances that caused him to already be 24 or 25 years old as a rookie. So a 10- year career wasn’t gonna be in the cards for him regardless.

  6. The game is demanding, his body did not hold up, it is really a testament to the guys who do endure, this is the most challenging and difficult sport of all. For a short time this guy was dominate, like a year and a half, the rest of the time he was broken down. I wish him luck and the best.

He got tired of sweeping your Lions every year (imposter vikes fan.) Hope you’re used to those sweeps because another is coming next year because Trubisky owns your Lions.
