Ravens were first team since 2011 Broncos to gain more running than passing

In today’s NFL, teams gain far more yards through the air than on the ground. But this season’s Ravens were unique.

The Ravens ran for 3,296 yards and passed for 3,225 yards. That made them the first team since the 2011 Broncos to gain more yards rushing than passing.

The last NFL team to gain more yards on the ground than through the air was the 2011 Broncos, who were led by Tim Tebow and gained 2,632 yards rushing and 2,434 yards passing.

Those Broncos ran the ball out of necessity because, well, Tebow wasn’t particularly good at passing the ball. The Ravens were actually quite efficient passing the ball, but they were one of the best running teams ever, and they had the lead most of the time and protected those leads by keeping the ball on the ground.

Not surprising since there really isn’t a QB on that team.

    Revolutionary

    =============
Really!?! (single wing, wishbone, full house t formation etc…)

  4. I didn’t know that about the 2011 Broncos but I’m not surprised. Tebow was really a fullback playing QB.

  5. I think that if Tim Tebow had played in an offense with three tight ends and a fullback and more importantly, that was structured to his strengths, he’d have had much more success as a passer.

  6. What’s interesting is that both teams managed to get to the divisional round of the playoffs lol.

Let’s see how this lasts – not holding my breath.

    Please do.

  8. hind sight is 20/20 but when i watched that 2011 Broncos team, or even the 2008 Dolphins running the wildcat, I couldnt help but think “Are these guys actually on to something revolutionary?” Those teams werent flukes, they were just prototypes.

  9. The purpose of football is to outscore your opponent. The Ravens have done just that, and not just with rushing TDs. They led the league in passing TDs. Say what you want, but this Ravens team has turned the entire NFL upside down and I couldn’t be any happier.

    GO RAVENS!!!!

  10. How is that a surprise? They got a garbage QB playing RB. Its not that hard to understand they are gonna run the ball.

  11. We’ve already seen this show with Cam Newton who is now riddled with injuries and hasn’t been the same since SB 50. Lamar Jackson has about 3 seasons before the beatings catch up to him.

  12. Tom Brady didn’t have a 30 TD season or 8.9 Y/A until he turned 30, and that was his 2007 season with Moss and Welker. I’ll be here enjoying your whining about “real QBs” for the next decade, at least.

I recall the last pass Tebow threw in Denver. The Steelers do too. 1-0 in the playoffs in for Tebow.

The got Tebow’d out of the playoffs and were cursed lol … never to return

Funny because I do to, it was a 17yd pass and about a 63yard run after the catch where Thomas burnt the defender, but for some unknown reason Tebow seems to get all the credit, my grandma could have made that throw!
