Julian Edelman needs knee and shoulder surgery

The Patriots had plenty of problems keeping reliable receivers on the field, and that was with Julian Edelman playing every game.

Now that the season’s over, he needs some work done.

According to Karen Guregian of the Boston Herald, Edelman is going to have surgery on his left shoulder, as well as an arthroscopic procedure on his left knee.

The 33-year-old played all 16 games this season despite the problems, and had 100 catches for a career-high 1,117 yards, and six touchdowns. Those were all team highs, in an offense that never quite found itself after the retirement of Rob Gronkowski and shuffling at the outside receiver spots.

  1. I absolutely love Julian Edelman but us patriots fans probably can expect the same thing next year at 34f your body just breaks down as a wide receiver…..I really hope he can stay healthy and I really hope TB 12 is back

  2. Not a surprise as it was pretty obvious he was beat up well before the end of the season. Great player and tough as nails; hopefully he has another Super Bowl or two left in him.

  3. Now just don’t forget to have plenty of magic juice to make sure you’re back on the field come September.

  4. That’s why he’s not a number one receiver, but a number two receiver who had too much work put on his shoulders this season when the Pats lost their other weapons.

Peyton Manning flushed his remaining supply down the toilet when he retired.

  6. Lance Armstrong wants to know how you can fail a test for performance enhancing drugs and then become the Super Bowl MVP and have thousands of fans cheering you for being such a great player in the same season.

  7. Shoulder surgery generally requires laying off the weights for 6 months. The knee surgery will keep him away from lower body workouts for a while. He’s going to come back smaller and lighter, and the side the shoulder is on may atrophy a bit as he recovers. He is 32 I believe. He may not come back as the same player. I hope I am wrong. Perhaps the shoulder was a factor in the drops. Time will tell.

  8. Jules should of sat out of the Miami game and then went for surgery.
There was no way this Team was getting to the AFCCG after that loss.

You just played yourself. You are trying to denigrate treatment that sees a 42 year old Brady still playing and a 34 year old Edelman finish in 4th in catches. Maybe they should try your soy and salty tears diet to see if they can reach your level of greatness.

But I thought you can’t get injured on this pliability training regiment. Why did Edelman have to take PED’s to get healthy then. Guess you should consume more of those 50 dollar nuts and drink that concussion water cause you actually believe in the snake oil salesman Guerrero.

  11. With all of the drops he had this season he better get an eye operation, he obviously can’t see to good through those squinty eyes!

  12. So the guy who on film looked like the best option Brady had all year literally had one arm and one leg???? And he still played better than the other WR’s on the roster?????
Maybe we need to re-evaluate all this “Brady looks done” stupidity…..

  13. Watching a guy like DK Metcalf or Deebo Samuel makes one realize even more how BB’s biggest weakness has been drafting WRs.

  14. Just saw on Reiss’ twitter feed he played with partially torn rib cartilage since week 3.
