Texans promoting Anthony Weaver to defensive coordinator

The Texans wasted no time in replacing Romeo Crennel.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Texans are promoting line coach Anthony Weaver to defensive coordinator.

The 39-year-old Weaver has been with the Texans since 2016, and has also coached for the Browns, Bills, and Jets. A former second-round pick of the Ravens, he played seven years in the league, the last three with the Texans.

Crennel’s contract is up, and he may retire, or slide into an advisory role. He’s scooted over for a younger coordinator before, allowing Mike Vrabel to become coordinator for two seasons before he went to Tennessee.

  1. I was hoping they would hire Wade again. Weaver being promoted makes me think that the same scheme will be used, whether Romeo is in advisory role or not. It’s time to change the defense, too many points are being coughed up in the 4th quarter of tight games.

  2. The entire coaching staff needs to be cleaned out . And hire a GM. Im tired of seeing this organization waste talent because of bad coaching , from Andre Johnson , to Watt and now Hopkins & Watson . Get a real head coach and lets win a few titles !!!

  3. Was Weaver part of Crenel’s defensive scheme at the divisional loss to KC? Big mistake if he was involved with zero adjustments!

  4. lol that team isnt winning any titles no matter who the coach is. is it o’briens fault that the defense is garbage? or that Watson is consistently inconsistent? Hopkins is legit, watt hasn’t been useful for atleast 2 years now. Is the head coach really causing the team to underperform? or is your team performing to their abilities? they were probly the 5th best team in the AFC, at best. no reason to think they should’ve made it another round.
