Kenny Clark wants extension, hopes holdout isn’t needed to get one

Packers defensive tackle Kenny Clark just wrapped up his fourth NFL season and he’s set for a fifth season in Green Bay after the team picked up their option on his contract.

Clark would like to set the stage for an even longer stay with the Packers this offseason. Clark discussed his desire for an extension with reporters as the Packers cleaned out their lockers on Monday.

“I think it’s one of those situations where, I think they’re going to want me here for a long time,” Clark said, via the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. “I think I’m a stable player and I’m a core player here. I think they want me to be here and they’re going to try to do everything they can to keep me here. I just have to be level-headed and pray about it. I have confidence. I believe with their history, they don’t let guys they want to be here, they don’t really let them leave.”

Clark said that there haven’t been any talks about a new deal at this point and hopes that changes soon. He also broached the prospect of holding out as part of the negotiating dance.

“Hopefully, I don’t have to do anything like that,” Clark said. “I’m not that kind of guy. I don’t think it will come to that.”

Clark is due a salary of $7.69 million if he plays out the season under the terms of his option.

  1. Hopefully the Packers do the right thing and extend his contract. Then they move Lancaster back to backup nose (his best position) so Clark can actually get some rest during the game. Very few tackles play as many snaps as Kenny.

  2. no one on that defensive line deserves a raise or an extension after that pitiful display of run stuffing on Sunday, the Packers d-line looked like Swiss cheese, pun intended.

  3. Does he realize the season just ended last week for the Pack? I mean all this “I”..”Me”..blah blahs blah. Wheres the team concept? Does he ever shut up?

  4. He deserves the money, but part of me has always felt he’d be a much better fit as a 3 technique in a 4-3 than our current nose tackle 3-4 set-up. Yes I realize they aren’t in base defense much, but there are far too many times when he’s bull-rushing towards the QB, when a RB has already run past him. It’s honestly Mike Daniels all over again, great player, wrong fit. They have to pay him, because he’s too good to lose for free, and trades in this league are rarely worth it. So Pettine, or his replacement, need to figure out how to fit the scheme to the players, and quickly.

Literally the first time this has ever been mentioned. Actually the first time we’ve heard anything from Clark…ever. Maybe we should ask you that same question?

He’s either a hack troll, or he doesn’t understand that people are allowed to answer questions when asked. If he’s in the second group, he’s also likely to get mad when players refuse to answer questions, because…….’Murica?

SMH. Does he ever shut up? I’d be willing to bet this is probably the first quote you’ve ever read by Kenny Clark.

As for Clark’s extension, it will get done.
With GB scheduled to be just shy of 40 million below the cap, there’s plenty of room to address this.
Clark plays like a tree stump in that defensive line, he’s immovable and a big part of the Packers’ future.

GB needs another big body to play next to him.
Lowry’s a good rotational player, while Lancaster seems to be just another guy.
Nobody knows yet what kind of player Keke’s going to be, and I think it’s safe to say that Montravius Adams is a complete bust.

This D-Line needs a little retooling, and it’s all going to revolve around Clark manning the Nose over the next several years.

  8. It’s nice to see players loyal to one team, he will get paid and since the Smith brothers made Green Bay their home that will help attract other free agents.

    “Does he ever shut up”?
This is the perfect example of why Filly fans should stick to their gooey, so-called cheese, steaks.
This might be the first comment we’ve heard from Clark all year and, unlike the comments coming out of Filly, it wasn’t about locker room problems. It was about a desire to stay with the team. Pfffft!

  10. It is amazing the comments people make. The guy was asked a question about his contract situation and answered it. And one of the first comments is he is a selfish guy. Forums give people soap boxes to stand on and say something… maybe some of those people shouldn’t have those soap boxes.

  11. Hey Packers nation..my fault I read this article before my morning coffee and mistook Kenny Clark for FRANK CLARK..can you stop the insults now? I admit my fault.

  12. He was asked about his contract by a reporter. What’s he supposed to do, just ignore the question and the person asking it? Then people would be ripping him for that. Some of these comments are just painfully stupid to read.

  13. Clark is one of the better players on the Packers D. They seem to have some talent there. An inside linebacker would be nice in the draft or through free agency. The biggest problem is Pettine. He needs to go. If he and his assistants can’t get guys fired up for the championship game, there is something missing.
