Joe Montana advises Tom Brady to finish his career in New England

Joe Montana has no regrets about his final two seasons played in Kansas City, but the Hall of Fame quarterback would advise Tom Brady to finish his career in New England if possible.

“Don’t — if you don’t have to,” Montana told Michael Silver of NFL Media “It’s a process to go through, and it takes time to get used to the team. I was fortunate because (former 49ers quarterbacks coach) Paul Hackett was there running the offense, and so I was pretty familiar with probably three-quarters of the offense going in. And, if they let [Brady] have his own offense (with a new team), yeah, that makes it a little bit easier. But still, the transition of moving. . . I just can’t see how they would let him leave there, myself.”

Brady is scheduled to become a free agent in March.

Montana had to leave the 49ers to remain a starter in 1993.

He played only one game in his final two seasons in San Francisco — 1991-92 — because of elbow problems. Steve Young earned 1992 NFL MVP honors, setting the stage for Montana’s departure.

“It’s not easy to go to another team and get accepted, no matter how much success you’ve had and how many years you’ve played,” Montana told Silver. “They still want to see you come in and be the same player and be that loyal to them as you were to the other team you just left. So, it’s not easy (for) guys looking at that change, especially at the quarterback position.”

  1. The true GOAT. All his rings and other accomplishments occurred during an era when the league wasn’t charmin ultra soft. It’s much easier to accomplish what Brady has when the defense can hardly touch you or the receivers.

  2. Montana was the ultimate game manager who has elite talent around him. All he ever did was throw the ball up for grabs to Rice and Taylor and bam 4 Super Bowl rings. Dickie Simpkins has 3 rings and no one cares about him. Montana just rode others like Simpkins did.

  3. Stay in New England Tom. You can barely win a super bowl with a top ranked defense so imagine not having a defense to save you. Yes I know Belichick was caught cheating again but you guys have to keep in mind it’s opposing teams catching them cheat not Goodell. So Belichick will be allowed to continue his dirty ways.

  4. Tom is going to play for the Chargers next season the writing is there for people to see they just have to open their eyes. Tom sold his home, and his personal trainer sold his home as well. He then bought a house an hours drive from the new home of the Chargers. Tom’s throwing coach lives close to the Chargers new stadium. Tom stepped down from his charity. Rivers moved to Florida to sign with Tampa Bay. It’s a done deal

  5. Peyton Manning would probably disagree. He played well his first season in Denver. His head coach was the reason Denver did not win a Super Bowl until Peyton Manning’s final season as a pro, when they have a different head coach.

I hope this is True. Nothing about Tom going to the Charges improves their situation over Philip Rivers. One less team to worry about in the AFC West.

You want to be the greatest of all time? Win one with a different team.

He already IS the greatest of all time. Even if he won a SB with a different team, people like you would just claim it’s a team accomplishment not the QB, or any one of a thousand other excuses so you don’t have to admit the truth.

  8. Brady will not win a SB with the Chargers. Same O Line problems as in New England.

Miami is a better option with all the High Draft Pics they have. Brady needs weapons and some protection.

Patriots D was way over-hyped and it was very obvious when the played Cleveland.

  9. Does anyone consider the possibility that Tom wants to play in California? To be closer to his parents? Where Gisele has asked to live? Where he can continue to grow his TB12 brand?

Remember, it was Tom that wanted the no tag included in his last contract.

I won’t be the least bit surprised when he announces he will play in LA. In fact, I think Brady, Kraft, Spanos, Kroenke, and Goodell have all but shook hands on a deal to reboot the Chargers.

There were lot of defense that were better than pats defense, and Belichick should thank to the lousy offense from Jets, Bills and Dolphins.

BTW, read below and get a clue :
#1, In SB against Panthers, Pats offense played 38 mintues.
#2, In SB against Seahawks, Pats offense played 33 minutes.
#3, In SB against Falcons, Pats offense played 37 minutes during regular periods
#4, _In SB against Eagles, Pats offense played only 26 minutes. How did his #5 defense play?_
#5, In AFCCG against Chiefs, Pats offense played 39 minutes.
#6, In SB agaisnt Rams, Pats offense played 33 minutes.

In case you are still clueless, check Saints defense, it allowed only average 18.4 points per game under Bridgewater, which is better than Bears’ #4 defense.

His house is for sale not sold.
The report is they purchased a house in Connecticut
Willie McGinnis also said his wife hates California
And yes his personal trainer did sell his house BUT purchased a new one less than an hour away from where he was. His words.

What else do you have ?

  12. Joe is right. Brady should stay. The praises sung about Joe Montana are vastly overblown. Yes, he never lost a SB: but people should consider that from 1982-1997 (16 years), the NFC won 15 of 16. Joe never lost to the AFC, but neither did anyone else. Why? The AFC was weak; many of those games were terribly one-sided if you check the scores.

  13. Peyton Manning would probably disagree. He played well his first season in Denver. His head coach was the reason Denver did not win a Super Bowl until Peyton Manning’s final season as a pro, when they have a different head coach.

It was his coach’s fault that he threw for 280 yards, 1 TD and 2 INTs and only managed 8 points in SB 48? Not sure about that

  14. His career is already over. Where he chooses to embarrass himself is another matter.

  15. You want to be the greatest of all time? Win one with a different team.

He has. Dynasty 1 and Dynasty 2 had completely different rosters.
