The Packers moved quickly to hire a new defensive backs coach.

According to Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, the Packers are hiring former Vikings secondary coach Jerry Gray for the same job on his staff.

Gray will replace Jason Simmons, who left to take the same job for the Panthers.

Gray spent the last six years with the Vikings, and has been defensive coordinator with the Titans and Bills. He spent nine years in the league as a player with the Rams, Oilers, and Buccaneers.

  1. I know nothing about this guy. I hope he’s better than the last guy and I didn’t know anything about him either.

    LOL! Great comparison, Alan!

Gray was a good coach, one of the best, but just not up to Zim’s standards. Coach Zimmer has consistently shown the guts and the lack of ego when it comes to hiring for his coaching staff – that’s what makes him the genius that he is!

But back to Alan’s point – it’s going to be tough for Gray to adjust to the dropoff in talent, but that’s to be expected whenever you leave a team that has the most talent at every position and so much depth! The backups coach Gray was used to working with would be starters on most teams in the league. Good luck, coach!

  3. Very nice, classy guy who had a great NFL career. Under Grey, the Viking safeties excelled, but the CBs never seemed to develop to their full potential. The Vikings let him go to add a younger assistant coach with a fresher perspective. Pack coulda done much worse, coulda done a bit better too.

  4. Intelligent minds give Gray lot of credit for the quality of Minnesota’s DB’s the last 5-6 Seasons. The team did invest several 1st Rounds picks into that secondary so I’m not sure how much credit he deserves.

  5. Just think if he’d gotten his degree he could have been the HC of the Texas Longhorns! Instead of a Charlie Strong or Tom Herman!

You don’t know anything about a 4 time pro bowler and HOF consideration? Maybe you should switch to watching professional snowmobiling or cart racing?

    Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

    Sure, in Bizarro World.

Yes, it appears the Barneys are still stinging from their team’s multiple losses to the Packers this season.

Expect even more insults, outbursts and foot stomping tantrums in the near future.
It’s the only they’ve got, their only coping mechanism.
Try not to laugh at them too much.
Pity them. In the grand scheme of things, they’ve been through a great deal of heartache and general embarrassment.

Not up to the standards of a coach with a top 5 roster who Makes the playoffs every other year and does nothing when he he does make it. He scapegoats his coordinators. Players have to talk him off the ledge when things go poorly. It seems like he realizes he’s in way over his head and brought Kubiak in to coach the team. If Zimmer just stays out of the way and let’s the real coaches coach the Vikings may do something, but his feeble brain will tell him he needs to do something at the most inopportune time and cause Minnesota to do what their fans have come to expect…fail miserably.

Green Bay dumpster diving for Viking leftovers again.
    _________

Just dusting off and refurbishing something of value that was carelessly left out on the curb.
Bringing it in from out of the cold and allowing it to shine and be useful again in an obviously nicer set of diggs.

  11. The big difference will be Jerry Gray can anytime he wants go into the Packers hall of fame in Lambeau And see the Lombardi trophy’s on display. Something he could not do in Minny.

  12. It’s hilarious to hear MIN fans talking about leftovers! Nevermind Greg Jennings, Brett Favre, Ryan Longwell, Darren Sharper, Brandon Bostick, Robert Ferguson, Desmond Bishop…need I continue?
