Stephen Ross will be the Dolphins’ owner for life

Bruce Beal has dibs on buying the Dolphins. He may be waiting a while to write the check, however.

Owner Stephen Ross said Friday that he won’t be selling the team during his lifetime.

“I have no interest in selling,” Ross said, via Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald. “Zero. Got it? That I can tell you. People want to write, they can write whatever they want. I’m the owner ‘til I die. I love it.”

There had been talk in some circles that Ross, who turns 80 in May, could soon be selling to Beal. The two men are partners in a real-estate business based in New York.

Ross purchased 50 percent of the Dolphins in February 2008, acquiring another 45 percent the following year. A succession plan based on Beal purchasing the team from Ross previously was approved by the NFL.

  1. He made a few mistakes but has really been doing an excellent job lately. He’s the only owner to comply with the Rooney Rule. He put up his own money to upgrade the stadium. He is doing great things with RISE and the Miami community. Now if he could just give us our classic logo back we’d be thrilled. Age is only a number. Go Ross. Phins up!

  2. I think hes a good owner. He always spends to try to win. The stadium is 100 times better than it used to be with him spending his own money to renovate it. We have a Super Bowl on Sunday here because of him. The city is very alive right now its awesome.

  3. Please? The only reason he paid for stadium renovations is because the state legislature and the voters said no. He tried to get $350 million of public funds. He spent $10 million trying to rig a special election. A billionaire wanting tax dollars to fix up a stadium he owns outright? Haven’t been to a game in a decade and I don’t see myself going to one anytime soon. The Dolphins will continue to stink under his ownership.

Millionaires playing in billion dollar stadiums for multi-billionaire owners.

Ask yourself if you matter to them.
Who do you think makes them millionaires and billionaires? Of course we matter. We need to be kept right where are to power the whole system from NFL to Real Estate to, um, politics.

  5. The Dolphins have made the playoffs once in the 11 seasons Ross has been majority owner. At that rate, he will have to live to be 91 to ensure a second playoff appearance.

  6. There is way too much power in America concentrated in the hands of wealthy old men who will never surrender their power even if that’s what would be best for everyone else.

The destruction of that franchise is permanent”
I know we are bad. Last year some people said that we did not have an NFL team.
I believe we played you on week 17th. Can you remind me of the score?
