Lamar Jackson is the unanimous NFL MVP

It’s official: Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson is the NFL’s Most Valuable Player. And he got every vote.

In a decision that had been expected for months but was officially announced on Saturday night at NFL Honors, Jackson was named the MVP, and he was selected unanimously.

Jackson was phenomenal from start to finish this season. He led the league in touchdown passes with 36, and also set a new NFL quarterback record with 1,206 rushing yards. And he did that while playing in only 15 games, because the Ravens had already locked up home-field advantage throughout the AFC playoffs before the final game of the season.

This is the second consecutive year that the league MVP award went to a second-year quarterback, in his first full season as a starter. Last year’s MVP was Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

This is also the seventh consecutive year that the MVP has been a quarterback, with Jackson following Mahomes, Tom Brady, Matt Ryan, Cam Newton, Aaron Rodgers and Peyton Manning. The last non-quarterback to win MVP was Vikings running back Adrian Peterson in 2012. Quarterbacks have also won 12 of the last 13 MVPs.

Jackson just turned 23 years old this month, and he’s already one of the league’s brightest young stars. He has a great future ahead of him, with on MVP award down and perhaps some more to come.

  1. Enjoy it Lamar, you deserve it. You covered up a lot of flaws on that team this season. Everyone knows John Harbaugh is an incompetent boob and “Wink” is a crappy D coordinator.

  2. Sometimes it’s just obvious who should be awarded this title. This past season is one of those years. Well deserved and I expect this won’t be his last.

  3. Mahomes won it last year and he is in the Super Bowl hopefully that happens for Lamar

  4. And yet after Bluetooth Guy was caught the “MVP” and his team got absolutely trucked at home in the playoffs, making them 0-1 in games that matter since they were caught cheating.. Go figure.

I hope he has the decency to thank Bluetooth Guy for helping him win* this award.

    FTFY

  6. Let’s see how good he really is now that the league knows they cheated and can’t use Bluetooth Guy anymore. Getting curb stomped in your first meaningful game since caught cheating is not a promising start.

Still say he is not a QB. Great runner though.

  7. Deserved…and still Wilson has never received one vote. Lamar is the MVP but I thought maybe one person would say Wilson had a much worse team and did more with it.

  8. They should wait until after tomorrow. Patrick Mahommes is the MVP. What a load of crap.

Wilson at least got a nod as 2nd team all pro.

If he’s the MVP he should be playing tomorrow! Not cool!

    ——
He’s the MVP when he knows the other team’s defensive play calls via Bluetooth Guy.

Without Bluetooth Guy- not so much as we all saw.

  11. Well deserved. So glad the corny QB of the rainy northwest didn’t get a vote. Perfect.

  12. Mahomes is the MVP and it’s not close. If you were starting a team today and you could take any one player to build you franchise around, who would it be? Of course it would be Mahomes. He’s the MVP.

  13. 19-3 in the regular season as a starter
    19-5 overall
0-2 in the playoffs (Ravens have been in the playoffs 8/12 years)
    2 straight division championships
    MVP

Go on and hate on the 23 year old phenom.

  14. Lamar has to prove more in 2020 and I don’t think he will be able to come close to what happened this year. He doesn’t have the mental intangibles to compete at the highest level and his football IQ is seriously lacking. However, while coach calls the plays, and he has no problem executing them, lets see if more teams figure out how to confuse him – I just expect a very disappointing season ahead.

  15. Let me start by saying it’s not that I don’t think Lamar didn’t deserve it. It is fine by me that he won. But unanimously? The Ravens would still have won the division this year if they started Flacco. The Seahawks would be a 4 win team without Wilson. Guess I just have a different definition of most “valuable” player.

  16. Pats fans being so scared of Lamar and the Ravens is so obvious. Every article about them they’re out in full force. You’re going to be dominated by the Chiefs, Ravens, Bills, and Texans for years to come. But keep blaming it on ‘bluetooth guy’. Its adorable.

Would be impressive to win a division with a starting QB who wasn’t even on the team’s roster.

How come when the Ravens won all those games in a row Jackson got all the credit then after another playoff disaster it’s the defense’s fault?
    —-
Most Ravens fans blame Greg Roman, who absolutely abandoned the run for no apparent reason and went with empty sets, something the team NEVER did in the regular season (including two minute drills).

“bluetooth guy” (The Ravens head of security) incident happened in Week 16, the Ravens then went on to beat a team fighting for their playoff lives in Week 17 (Steelers). So….unlike the Pats who went 2-2 after they got caught, yet again, breaking the rules.

  20. Oh initially I agreed with the headline because I thought the award was for MVC… most valuable choker….my bad

  21. He cannot consistently throw the ball. Control his running, he will become mediocre just like RG3

  22. So….unlike the Pats who went 2-2 after they got caught, yet again, breaking the rules.

“But other teams!1!!1“ is not a valid excuse for cheating.

Can’t take the R*vens season seriously when there was a guy with an illegal Bluetooth receiver literally standing by the coach’s ear. “Security” wouldn’t have a reason to do that. A guy relaying the stolen play calls of the other team to the coach certainly would.

0-1 in games that matter with the “1” being an absolute beatdown by a playoff 6 seed in your own house after he was caught. Odd coincidence. 🤔

You need some help with how much pent up hate you have considering how many times your team has been caught cheating. Keep it up, its so predictable and so entertaining.

  24. What did bluetooth guy have to do with Lamar running all over every NFL defense? Did he tell Lamar to cut left or right?
    You sound ridiculous!

Again “but other teams!!” is not an excuse.

You’re right I hate cheaters and cheating. Not going to apologize for it. R*vens were great this year, then caught, and then were terrible In the playoff game after they were caught. Unless the NFL investigates and explains what Bluetooth Guy was listening to on his illegal Bluetooth device and what he was telling the coach while standing by his ear it’s not hard to put 2 and 2 together,

  26. He had an incredible year and deserved this. I think everyone needs to tap the brakes with all the he-is-changing-forever-changing-the-QB-role stuff pushed this year. Next year is another year. We will see what happens.

  27. Laughing at the joker who posted Pats fans are jealous of Lamar. OMG you have to be on some good stuff to think that. When Lamar has been to 9 Superbowls come back and see me. More like Lamar and his fans all had him hoisting the Lombardi this year. What happened? I find it funny how many fans think it’s easy for teams to get to the Superbowl.

  28. When Lamar has been to 9 Superbowls come back and see me. More like Lamar and his fans all had him hoisting the Lombardi this year.

    Earl Thomas sure did!
“When the Super Bowl comes whoever WE play they’re going to be in trouble” 😂

Now that was hilarious. I mean how arrogant can a team get?

  29. Well deserved. People need to know this award is for the regular season and ballots were cast before the playoff. At that time he clearly was the MVP. Great season!

  30. They should’ve considered his playoff game where they were down to the 6th seed and Jackson couldn’t throw them back in to the game to save his life. Go watch his Pro Bowl skills performance, 2 points says it all. Cousins hit 20 points.

  31. His talents, if not his English, will continue to develop, and he will take his place among the best QBs ever.

The hate for a young black successful athlete that stays humble, excels, and is on a path to greatness.
    —————————————————————————————————–
Humble is not a word that can ever be associated with this Ravens team. They were telling us how great they were from week 8 until they got embarrassed, again, in the playoffs.

Yup. Hopefully the Steelers put them back in their place in 2020. Hard to believe I’d start despising a team more than the Steelers and here we are.

  34. Mark Ingram was clearly the MVP of that offense. Was it a coincidence that Lamar turned into a completely different quarterback with him off the field? It also helps when your tight ends are wide open in the middle of the field on every other play. With an offense like that, it would make Kyler Murray and Ryan Tannehill look good, too.

  35. > Choked hard when it counted most. But it’s a nice consolation prize I suppose.

    > How come when the Ravens won all those games in a row Jackson got all the credit
    > then after another playoff disaster it’s the defense’s fault?

Jackson himself did have over 500 yards of offense in the game. I don’t understand the hate or how that is choking. I didn’t think he’d be that good this year, but admit it, he was the MVP and had a season for the ages.
