Landon Collins fired up to play in Jack Del Rio’s defense

Landon Collins did not make the Pro Bowl for the first time since his rookie season. The safety made 117 tackles, four pass breakups and two forced fumbles in his first season in Washington.

He expects more this season under new head coach Ron Rivera and new defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio.

“I like his defense,” Collins said, via Peter Hailey of NBC Sports Washington. “It’s a 4-3 concept. That’s what I think we needed from the get-go with these guys. We have great run stoppers, but these guys want to get up field and make plays themselves, and stop holding people for the linebackers.”

Collins sounds rejuvenated after meeting with Del Rio, ready for a better season in 2020 than he had in 2019.

“When I first walked into his office, he said, ‘Bro, I love your mentality, you remind me so much of Ray Lewis, with the mentality of being a leader, making plays, doing what we need to do and having these guys going the right direction,'” Collins said. “He said, ‘Now, there are some things I need you to change up in your game.’ And I was like, ‘All right, cool, yeah.’ And that’s what I love about him: He was straightforward with me. Don’t beat around the bush. My best seasons came when I heard that from my coaches.”

  1. Big ego players are best to avoid. This guy, Jamal Adams, etc. Overrated and not worth the time or money. They do a lot of mouth running which makes it seem like they are really good. Then you watch them play, and you see the facts. Goo, but their ego blocks them from reaching any potential they otherwise would have had.

  2. in a couple of years he will want to play for Bill at the league minimum so he can experience winning…only problem is the pats will be a 500 team then! lol

  3. For the first time in a long time, the Skins have a professional and valued coaching staff, who just started like last week, and already I am seeing the Haters and the No Nothings vent their lowly IQ’s as if they know what they are talking about regarding players egos etc. Right away I think about people who have never played the game at any level trying to sound important, may I suggest we take a step back, let the coach do what he does best and wait until the end of the season before we pontificate about thing we feel need improvement.

  4. Giants fan here. Landon is a great player but not worth the money DC gave him. I still wish all our former players well even if he was a massive douche that opened his big mouth to bad mouth the entire organization and to say he would physically assault a 60 year old man.

    I’m done…

  6. Unless Del Rio can knock a few tenths off his 40 time I cant see him making Collins a much better player. Hes already got everything you would want, except speed/quickness. Its not out of the question to turn him into a LB at some point, he is physical enough for sure.

  7. If the skins DO pick up chase young, their d line will get even stronger than what it is(obviously). Those bama boys along with Kerrigan, sweat and chase young will constantly be collapsing the pocket. If Del Rio can get these guys to perform, I can see him getting another head coaching job in a couple years.

I agree with this. If he could add 12-15lbs to his frame without losing a step, he’d basically be the ideal ILB of this pass-happy era. Dude plays aggressively and moving him down from safety to lb would mitigate his issue with getting beat over the top.

  9. Landon Collins can’t cover to save his life. The dude has so much tackles because he lives in the box. And quit comparing him to Jamal Adams. .. the guy might have a big mouth but he is the real deal .

  10. Unless Del Rio can knock a few tenths off his 40 time I cant see him making Collins a much better player.

Landon Collins ran a 4.53 40 at the 2015 NFL Combine, which is obviously more than fast enough for a strong safety.
