Bills sign Josh Norman

The Bills have welcomed several former Panthers coaches, executives and players in the last few years and they’re adding another to kick off this week.

Mike Garafolo of NFL Media reports that the team has agreed to a one-year, $6 million deal with cornerback Josh Norman. Norman played for the Panthers when Bills head coach Sean McDermott was the defensive coordinator in Carolina.

Norman left the Panthers for Washington in 2016 after the Panthers pulled the franchise tag they’d used on Norman early in the offseason. He was a starter for his first three seasons in Washington and made eight starts last season before being benched down the stretch.

Washington released Norman last month and Bills General Manager Brandon Beane, another former Panthers employee, said that the team had spoken with him a short time later. Garafolo reports Norman spoke to other teams as well, but the familiarity with the Bills defensive scheme helped lead him to Buffalo.

  1. $6m? Stats show QBs had almost perfect ratings when targeting Norman last year, so thanks!
    – the rest of the AFC East.

  2. Much like OBJ is still living off that 1 catch, Norman is still living off that 1 game where he made OBJ lose his mind…

  3. 6 million seems ridiculously high for a player that warmed the bench last season.

He’s been on the Skins for years now. Outside of Jacksonville nobody wants to be there and their play shows it. He’ll be a different player with McDermott.

  5. Somebody actually wanted to come to Buffalo, I’m so happy I could cry.

  6. He had one very good year, a few solid years but the last two years he has not been anything better than average – he is 32 as well so his best years are behind him. Add his big mouth to the equation and it can cause issues in the Bills locker room. A young team bringing in a guy like this is not the ideal veteran presence – bizarre signing.

  7. Hopefully he doesn’t pull a Vontae Davis in the second game of the year. The term and $$ are worth the risk to upgrade opposite Tre White and assist with depth. Decent move

  8. Norman must have the inside story on Brady, no way he joins Bills with Tommy in the same division.

  9. He’s lost a step but I think he’ll be just fine playing the zone CB role. Tre will remain the #1 cover corner.

  10. That clown could not cover a blade of grass the past two seasons. Anyone who thinks he’ll be better in a cold climate is an idiot. Anyone playing the Bills will know where to throw now.

If he was signed by the Raiders, they would move him to QB, because God knows Carr can’t play QB.
