NFL cancels its annual meeting

In a move that is surprising only in that it took so long for it to happen, the NFL has canceled its annual meeting.

The yearly get-together, scheduled this year for The Breakers in Palm Beach, Florida, consists of various sessions that ultimately produce rule changes for the coming year. The league has delayed possible rule changes and other agenda items until the next meeting, set for May 19-20.

Much of the late March event centers around socializing and media access. Given the critical importance of social distancing as Americans try to limit the spread of the coronavirus, it was obvious that the event would be canceled.

Next for the league comes decisions regarding the draft, along with the possibility of altering its plan to let free agency proceed as scheduled next week.

  1. Err on the side of caution. It’s one thing to minimize on this flu right now because we have no idea how far spread this flu has spread here. The other Countries that have been testing everyone show how vast and fast the flu spreads. We have no idea what is happening here because we have run hardly any testing and we still are not even close to being able to do it like them. Yes the test are now being mass produced, but those tests need to be read by using enzymes and several other simple things that are also trying to be mass produced. The bottom line is we have no clue how many people have been infected here and how it has spread. The fact that we have tested so little of our population and yet find it in in virtually most Stated is nothing to scoff at…

  2. Pretty soon, PFT wont have any news to report on with all the panic going on.

  3. There is no “possibility of altering its plan for free agency.” Dont put words in the leagues mouth. What is your deal guy. Media trying to control the narrative of course. Never mind that contracts can be executed via docusign, contracts can be negotiating on conf call. Typical mob mentality, if you’re not doing what other people are doing (despite the situations being totally different) then you’re wrong. Something about this whole thing stinks

  4. I think the virus has been here for months. Think of all the people who don’t go to the doctor and just ride it out at home.

  5. We are acting like people are dropping over dead as soon as they get this cold. Its a weak virus. I can see this reaction for a plague that kills in 24 hours. Not for some common ailment that cures itself in a handful of days. Ridiculous.

  6. Drastic measures have to be taken. Just close and cancel everything for the next two weeks, except medical professionals. It might be devastating to the economy, but what can you do ?

  7. With today’s technology there’s no reason to do this in person. Same with the draft, although I know the league loves the publicity from that event.

  8. Typical boomer response, one little bug and the whole world has to stop for their entitlement

  9. There is no “possibility of altering its plan for free agency.”

Man I hope you don’t have a family that counts on you to make the right decisions.

Oh my God, give it a rest! You’re the only person on the planet that gives a hoot that it “took so long” for the NFL to cancel a meeting that is over two weeks away

  11. I’m sure that the NFL is ecstatic that PFT approves of the actions the the NFL is taking in response to the Chinese coronavirus.
Lord knows that media approval is what every business and capitalist government
    should seek [sarcasm].
    SMH

  12. It amazes me how people like Florio are criticizing entities like the NFL for “not canceling something fast enough.” It’s not a matter of picking up the phone and canceling a dinner reservation. There are huge sums of money at stake, often accompanied by large deposits, which means you have to negotiate a refund or some other accommodation. It requires negotiation, and it’s safe to bet that facilities that host conferences and such are getting HAMMERED right now.

Lighten up. Nobody is on your time frame but you. Chill!

Well I’m sure Mike will start up with the Kaepernick stories again. Always good to go to the well on that one to click bait us up into a frenzy.

What? A cold is not a flu and the only virus that kills in 24 hours or less is called a chemical weapon.
