The Raiders are closing in on a deal with quarterback Marcus Mariota, NFL Media reports.

Raiders General Manager Mike Mayock had Mariota as the top-ranked quarterback and fifth overall player on his NFL Network draft board in 2015. Mariota went second overall to the Titans.

The Raiders were looking to upgrade behind Derek Carr, with Mariota getting a chance at more than that in case of injury or ineffectiveness.

Mariota, 26, lost his starting job to Ryan Tannehill last season.

In five seasons in Tennessee, Mariota made 61 starts and went 29-32. He threw for 13,207 yards with 76 touchdowns and 44 interceptions.

His career passer rating is 89.6.

  1. If Mariota was in this draft he’d be the #2 overall pick behind Burrow. This would be a coup by Gruden.

  2. No chatter about Rivers and Brady because they are ancient and washed up, just saying…

  3. The biggest trouble with Mariota is that he can’t seem to stay healthy.
It would be interesting to see what kind of QB he’d be for a full season.

  4. Mariotta, Peterman that’s better than nothing. The Raiders shouldn’t waste another season AS IS! It’s never gonna work under any circumstance! It doesn’t 7 years to make a change! Qb’s get run quickly in this league continuously losing, it isnt rocket science!

  5. The Raiders backup QB would be miles better than the Bills starter, Mr 52% Trash Allen.

  6. I thought Nathan Peterman was the guy to back up Carr? They need receivers and blockers.

  7. Raiders TD’s go up by at least 10 next season. Gruden will create a RZ package for him
