Sean Payton has had no respiratory symptoms from COVID-19

Saints coach Sean Payton announced on Thursday that he has been diagnosed with COVID-19. He added that he has avoided the worst of the virus.

“I’m feeling better and fortunate to not have any of the respiratory symptoms,” Payton said on Twitter. “Four more days at home.”

Payton went public with his diagnosis in an effort to get people to take the situation seriously.

“If people understand the curve and understand the bump, we can easily work together as a country to reduce it,” Payton said, referring to the potential for the outbreak to overcome the health-care system if too many cases happen at once. “Take a minute to understand what the experts are saying. Just that type of small investment by every one of us will have a dramatic impact.”

It’s a great message. While it seems like most are taking the situation seriously, plenty still aren’t. It’s up to all of us to make sure the people in our circle of family and friends understand how serious this is, and what we all need to do to protect those who may suffer or die if they catch it.

  1. If he had no symptoms, how did he get the test done? The rich have their own rules always I guess.

  2. To the guy above, Yes buddy, people with millions of dollars can find a way to access things that those with 50 dollars can’t – otherwise what good is working for all that money?

  3. H1N1. 60 million cases, 12k deaths. Now all of sudden with 200 thousand cases there’s a shortage in hospital beds or something. Economy crashing in an election year. K.

I assume he went to a private physician or private clinic. If he didn’t use up any public resources, no one should be hating on him.

  5. I hope he gets well soon. These diagnosis of famous people brings back memories of Magic Johnson announcement in 1991. He’s been living a long, long, long time!! Hmmm.. IJS

  6. If you arent dying then stay away from hospitals. Ive been sick for almost 2 weeks now…flu like symptoms…but Im able to operate. Im retired so Im pretty much always home anyway. Going to the ER if you come down with a simple sniffle will overload the ER’s, give doctor’s less time to worry about people who really are sick, AND actually give you a better chance of getting the virus.

  7. Like most medical procedures and tests you can pay to have anything done if you’re willing to pay out of pocket.

  8. I seriously believe this COVID-19 has several different versions of this virus which has a power house version and also weaker stains. I don’t believe everything has to do with people’s immune system. They virtually know NOTHING about how to control this disease because they haven’t had enough time to study it because it moves so fast as people can be contagious and show no symptoms and not know it for at least two weeks. I hope whomever reads this take heed to my words and take this very seriously. I have been wearing a respirator for weeks and people laughed at me. They are not laughing now and you can’t even get them anymore as I have tried. Google “Pandemic” and educate yourself. Sean Payton didn’t stand there with a person sneezing, coughing, and with watery eyes says “Hey we love you coach” ! He most likely caught it from someone who looked perfectly healthy. This is how this beast prowls. I wish Sean Payton the very best and will say a prayer for him. I hope he fully recovers and can move on with his life … but he’s still not out of the woods yet as this disease percolates in many different forms. Best wishes to all and this is not a political thing … it’s an educated our self and let’s all take this more serious thing. God Bless. This is above sports and I’m a sports addict in withdraw right now. If you read this through.. THANK YOU.

Feeling lethargic is the symptom that allows for testing. I don’t dispute your rich people argument but in this case Sean Payton fulfilled the requirements that anyone should in order to receive a test.

He didn’t say no symptoms, just no respitory one. That still leaves a flu-like fever etc.

  11. Didn’t think of it but it is strange that he didn’t have any symptoms but went to get tested. A lot of strange things are happening with this Coronavirus, which leads me to believe there may be ulterior motives at play here. Stay posted folks.

  12. Hold up. So people with Fever, cough and respiratory distress AREN’T getting tests, and he doesn’t show these symptoms and DOES. Double-You-Tee-Eff man.

  13. We have people waiting in lines to get tested that have the symptoms. But a NFL coach gets tested with out them? WOW…..real easy for a millionaire to tell average working people to sit at home.

  14. Another case of the wealthy/famous getting special treatment. They are about out of kits where I live and won’t even test you unless you are sick.

  15. Hopefully people will listen to Sean. Unfortunately, all those spring breakers are at beaches gathering as if there’s not a care in the world. Those are the people who think their invincible to this, of course until it happens to them or someone they know. It’s too bad some people have to learn the hard way.

I’m hearing a lot of stories that regular Joe Blow can’t even get tested. Just the rich guys.
    Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

What do you think Sanders has been trying to tell everybody?

  17. What are the odds that KD and Sean Payton pulled out of a population randomly have it and showing no symptoms? How can anyone think this hasn’t already spread???

  18. I don’t feel sick? WE SAID YOU ARE SICK!!!! Not sure what to make of this. This is either past my comprehension or the biggest over reaction ever. Time will tell

  19. So he’s lecturing about the bump even though he obviously didn’t do his part.

This is the ultimate do as I say, not as I do.

  20. Are the 1% getting ready to feed us to the aliens or what? This guy gets a test so he can tell us to stay put. But a individual with symptoms freshly from Italy gets pushed out of the testing tent and told they won’t test (flu/strep nagetive BTW) and go home and isolate instead? Real. Because I was there. Thanks for telling us to stay home while you whisk off to your bunker. Get well soon since you never were sick in the 1st place. Just concerned and that was all you needed.

  21. Glad it seems he will be ok!

Also glad the “experts” on here calling this a hoax seem to have gotten the message. Stay safe.

  22. What’s the mystery?
He was sick, and got tested.
The test came back positive, but he avoided the symptoms that are causing death.

  23. Interesting. A public figure with no symptoms was tested. It’s almost as if nbc is a part of the mainstream media is doing anything to feed the panic.

  24. Glad to hear Sean Payton is doing OK. This virus is the most contagious virus we’ve seen since the 1918 Spanish Flu epidemic.

  25. How about we stop acting resentful and focus on praying for the health of all those most affected by the virus? When things like this happen people split up into 2 groups. Group 1 remains positive and looks for ways to fight through it. Group 2 looks for people to blame and hate.

  26. No real symptoms but he got tested. The average Joe can’t get tested in America but the famous rich can, go figure.

  27. There are many symptoms besides respiratory problems, high fever, headaches, runny nose, coughs, general loss of appitite, lethargy. Also some people will be asymtomatic, just feeling a little under the weather but not sick enough to even realize they have it.

  28. You’re not necessarily going to have respiratory issues with covid-19. Most people report only mild to moderate symptoms. Runny nose, sore throat and nasal congestion are the most common symptoms. It is a coronavirus, the same strain of viruses that cause the common cold. It is rare to have respiratory problems with covid-19. So, the coach obviously had symptoms and knew he may have been exposed. He got tested only because he met a certain criteria. He tested negative for influenza first. He must have traveled to a hot spot area or been in contact with someone who tested positive for the virus. It has nothing to do with how much money we have.

You are absolutely wrong. There is a known shortage of these tests. This is a public crisis. And right now, it is a bigger crisis for the poor.

WRONG. This has everything to do with immune systems, and it is why younger individuals and kids are far less likely to get a strong case of it. Leave the medical science to do its job, and leave your beliefs at home.

“They virtually know NOTHING about how to control this disease because they haven’t had enough time to study it because it moves so fast as people can be contagious and show no symptoms and not know it for at least two weeks”.

It isn’t a disease, it is a virus, and like the flu, if everybody stays home, it would die down. Please educate yourself. This is very much like the flu, in that almost all of us will be exposed sooner or later, and most will survive it BECAUSE most have immune systems that will successfully fight it off.

“Sean Payton didn’t stand there with a person sneezing, coughing, and with watery eyes says “Hey we love you coach” ! He most likely caught it from someone who looked perfectly healthy”

Yep, just like the flu, which is also a corona virus, by the way. Asymptomatic people carry and spread flu viruses.

“This is how this beast prowls.”
No, this is how fear prowls.

“I wish Sean Payton the very best and will say a prayer for him. I hope he fully recovers and can move on with his life.”

We all wish him well. He has a strong enough immune system and the virus is successfully being controlled BY HIS IMMUNE SYSTEM. But, like the flu, it can be spread by people who are carriers and have little to no symptoms.

Thetooloftools, your name says it all. You stay cozy behind your mask.

Currently COVID-19 has 200,000 cases, and 10k deaths. Guess how many deaths we will have when we have 60 million infected?

  32. Bailouts are coming everyone! Pull your heads out of the sand. This is socialism……..working for everyone. Sanders is right. Spread the wealth.

    _________________________________________

In the US, the mortality rate for covid-19 is 0.3%. That is as of now. It may increase with more exposure and infection. The problem is the speed at which this particular virus is spread. The fear is that our healthcare system will be overburdened with a spike in cases. The flu drags on for many months with a comparatively low rate of transfer. That is where we are really at. Don’t panic. We are nipping the virus in the bud.

  34. The 200K covid-19 cases are underreported by a factor of 10-15x due to lack of testing and asymptomatic cases. That total is also trailing by 7 days as results and counts takes about 7 days from testing.

The current actual number is probably closer to 2-3M during the 2-3 months it’s been identified. By mid summer, some projections have it at 150 million, with anywhere from 500k-2M deaths. More if the turds continue to think of it as a hoax. Marshall Law is our only hope then.

As for the supplicants who want to compare numbers with H1N1, get it through your thick skulls that’s akin to comparing a new game a couple minutes into the first quarter to a fully completed game with the benefit of 10 years of hindsight analysis. Spare us your drivel.

  35. “Didn’t think of it but it is strange that he didn’t have any symptoms but went to get tested.”
    ______________

Not that strange. New Orleans area has been hit pretty hard. Lots of cases there so he easily could know people who had it which made him wonder if he’d also gotten it. And even if he had minimal to no symptoms it doesn’t mean somebody he gave it to wouldn’t get really sick so it helps to keep even the non-symptom people away from the general public.

I have to respond to this with more than a THUMBS UP, because you have hit this 100% on the head. People need to take this SERIOUSLY, it has decimated the Italian Health Care System. It Italy has a a very efficient and modern health care system and it has been overwhelmed in the period of two months. This will be happening here soon in some areas of the country. Don’t make yourself a statistic, don’t be part of the cause of an overwhelmed health care system in the USA. Don’t act like a dumb Spring Breaker in Florida. The ICU bed that you take, might be the one I need……
