Rams unveil new logo, colors

Los Angeles Rams

After much adoo about something, the Rams unveiled their new logo and colors Monday. The makeover was four years in the making, since the Rams moved back to Los Angeles from St. Louis.

The team said in a news release that the “new look affirms the team’s commitment to respecting the past, while representing the future.”

The Rams unveiled two logos with a Rams horn at the heart of both — a L.A. monogram designed with an intertwined horn and “a modern take on the iconic ‘Rams Head.’” The team’s new colors are famed blue and yellow, a spinoff of their throwback royal blue and gold.

The Rams call the hues “Rams Royal” and “Sol.”

They have done away with the navy blue, light gold and white look, a scheme from in 2000 when the Rams still called St. Louis home.

“We always looked at blue and yellow and white; we looked at a wide range of things around that as accent colors,” Kevin Demoff, the Rams chief operating officer, said, via Lindsey Thiry of ESPN. “But at the end of the day, that was one place we knew our fans weren’t going to compromise.”

Two weeks ago, someone leaked what the Rams now confirm was a specialty hat made by New Era specifically for the NFL draft. Let’s just say it did not receive rave reviews on social media.

The Rams were “caught off guard” by the leak, according to Thiry, and insist it was a design they turned down multiple times.

“It’s not a hat I would buy or we would ever want in the marketplace, but we didn’t get much of a say in that,” Demoff said. “[That hat] was a terrible first introduction to where we are headed, but there’s nothing we can do about how that came to be.”

  1. I expect that logo to be of a local news channel, not a multi-billion professional football team.

  2. Shocker: the internet does not like a team’s new logo. I am willing to bet that the internet won’t like their new uniforms either.

I literally have never seen the internet actually have a positive response to new logos or new uniforms. Never.

  3. Good chance the new stadium will not be ready for the upcoming season… California’s stay at home mandate will stop construction.

  4. Absolutely atrocious. Some marketing agency out there was stealing a paycheck. Merlin Olsen is rolling over in his grave.

  5. Not a fan of the LA logo, but the Rams profile is a nice mix of old and modern. I dig it. Colors are good too.

  6. that looks like a cheap contest winner. they probably gave the winner a case of turtle wax and a copy of their home game.

  7. Horrible. This is what happens when team ownership is out of touch with it’s fanbase (customers). They simply could have had a vote on competing designs but their arrogance prevented them from caring what their fans (customers) think. Ignore your fans(customers) at your peril, Mr. Kroenke.

  8. What was wrong with the old logo?

Just change the colors and be done with it.

This new Ram logo is very bland.

  9. Are they paying professional designers to come up with this garbage, or is one of the team exec’s toddlers doing it? How embarrassing.

  10. It took four years to come up with that? Looks like it took a third-grader about five minutes.

  11. Looks like the Nightly News storm coverage when Hurricane Harvey hit.

    “Weather you can trust !!”

  12. Notice while complaining that “the internet” never likes a new team logo, the commenter had nothing to say about the logo itself. That’s because it truly kind of sucks, whether you typically agree with “the internet” or not.

  13. Looked at it. Thought about it. Looked again. Thought some more. Looked at it for a third time. Nope. Still ugly.

  14. The best Rams uniform,in my opinion, was the classic blue and white Roman Gabriel era uniform. That new logo screams XFL. All wrong.

  15. The logo looks like it’s for the Rams and the Chargers. It can be the first time two teams share the same logo!

Oh..by the way; it’s a terrible looking logo. whatever marketing firm came up with it, the Rams need to ask for a full refund.

  16. It seems like everyone agrees. It looks like a logo for a local news broadcast.

I would love to know how much money was spent creating it.

  17. That Logo will teach Jarred Goff to read defenses.
    17-0 and a super bowl.

  18. If I were the Rams, I would reverse course and demand a refund from whatever hack told them this would inspire the brand. I never saw the point in torpedoing a sinking ship, but someone obviously did.

  19. I don’t mind it other than the fact that it still makes me think “LA Chargers” (albeit less so than the leaked version)…

  20. Further proof that LAR leadership is out of touch with local and nat’l Rams fanbase. Disappointed…

  21. They need to put the Rams, Texans, Titans and Carolina together and call it the USFL division.

  22. With the Rams unveiling their new logo, this means they now have the second ugliest logo next to the Browns.

  23. Ugly for sure but doesn’t matter because Rams’ gear isn’t going to be selling regardless with them now on the skids. Spent themselves into salary cap oblivion and could potentially be the worst team in their division since the Cards look to be improving.

  24. Hahaha they have great deals on Fiverr for logo designs they went with the $5 version it appears.

  25. The ram’s head logo looks fine. Better than their current cartoonish ram’s head logo.

The LA logo looks weird, like an ad for an LA camera shop.

Not sure why they’re messing with the colors. They look too close to the Chargers now.

  26. Not amazing, but still better than several other teams’ – Browns, Ravens, Broncos, Jets, Pats, Bucs.

  27. I am impressed with the logo and colors. I don’t know how much of a difference there is until the uniforms come out. I think the rams head logo looks phenomenal the only thing it’s missing is an eye and a mouth.

  28. Logos are one thing, but helmets and uniforms are another.

I hope they don’t mess with their helmet. The ram’s horns are one of the more iconic in the league. Always thought they were really cool no matter what color.

  29. Maybe just like the stadium, the Chargers are going to share it with the Rams. It looks like it could be either. They seriously thought this through?

  30. As RDog notes above, the majority of fans NEVER like new logos/uniforms when they are first released.

Sometimes, like in the case of the Browns’ current uniforms (shortly to be changed back to the traditional look), the designs really are bad and never win over fans and after the NFL mandated five seasons will be discarded.

Often times, however, fans come to embrace them over time (see: Patriots, Broncos, Seahawks, especially).

    I think people usually:

    – are resistant to change in general
    – feel more sophisticated in criticizing a design (it’s easy to just say “that sucks”)
    – simply want to go along with the crowd
    – associate an older design with positive memories of the team and so the new one doesn’t seem to be representing the same franchise
    – need time to let a new design grow on them

What’s funny about this thread is that the Rams’ new colors and logos are not exactly radical designs or stark changes from their older ones. Give it a couple of years, nobody will particularly think these are that bad. Give it a few decades, and they’ll be considered “classics” and people will howl if they are changed again.

  31. Also, while I tend to prefer old-school versions, this fits in with (and is better than a lot of) the “reimaginings” that are now accepted as normal. Think Broncos, Pats, Seahawks, Falcons. (We won’t speak of the dreadful Buccaneers.)

  32. The Rams HAD an iconic logo like the Packers, Cowboys and Raiders and POOF! Gone … This new logo looks like the Rams and Chargers had a one night stand and gave birth to an ugly baby.

  33. …beauty, they say, is only skin-deep but ugly goes clear to the bone…this goes to the bone…

Blame Nike, they haven’t really made anything that looks good since the 90’s.

The Bucs and Broncos both got rave reviews in 1997, of course, the interwebs were still fresh back in those days.

  35. Look, I know everybody needs a job but … really? Somebody actually thinks this is a good idea?

You might want to think about this …

    It’s still not too late

The current design is a classic …

Give it a chance. We are old. 🙂

  38. That is disrespectful and sacrilegious! I have always thought the rams was one of the very best in the NFL even tho I am not a huge fan, Along with the Colts, Chiefs and possibly Packers that logo states perfectly the idea of an NFL team. PLEASE re-THINK this move!
You FINALLY brought back the blue and White colors, THAT is what you need to keep. If you want to update do like the Vikings helmet, make the logo a bit 3-d this is not tasteful, you will also alienate any fans you have in St. Louis. If you HAVE to do this make it an alternate, don’t mess with perfection!

  39. Maybe they were going for the LA Waning Crescents? Nah it’s a Chargers logo, plain and simple. How does a NFL team release this?

  40. The Fearsome Foursome -Deacon Jones, Merlin Olsen, Roosevelt Grier & Lamar Lundy
Los Angles Rams Football ! Go back to the Blue and White Horned Helmet. Reconnect with the legends. Get your uniforms with the simple thick Blue Stripe over the shoulder Pads.

This is absolutely a fair statement. However, this logo is hot garbage. I guess we will wait to see how the unis turn out but this logo… woof.

  42. I’m a designer. I think it works.
Why these people in the forum have so much to say about it is classic, yet predictable. Not sure any of them understand design, branding, identity, typography — nothing.
What do most of you do for a living? Just working at GM and GE on production lines?

    Yeah. Anyways.

It is not what we do for a living, it is that WE are the customers…….smh….

    Yeah. Anyways……

  44. The Seahawks would like to thank Inglewood(So Fi) stadium for the extra home game, you can bet Seahawk fans will sell out the stadium.
