Free agent defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh is likely to stay in Tampa Bay.

Suh and the Buccaneers are expecting to reach an agreement on a one-year, $8 million contract, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

That would represent a pay cut for Suh, who last year signed a one-year, $9.25 million contract with the Buccaneers. But it may be the best offer Suh can get.

The 33-year-old Suh started all 16 games for the Buccaneers last year and has started every game every year of his 10-year career, with the exception of a two-game suspension during his second season. Suh isn’t playing at an All-Pro level anymore, but he remains a key cog in the Bucs’ defense.

Suh was No. 83 on our list of the Top 100 free agents.

  1. Wanted him for Seahawks, but understand he would want to end his career in TB, where he got his start. The Brady factor, I’m sure, did help and the chance to win going out with the goat has to be appealing. I said it last week and believe it today, the NFC South has risen and will be fun to watch.

  2. This is huge for the Bucs. Yes, he’s not the pass rusher he once was, but he still eats up double teams and anchors against the run. His return will be a real benefit to the other linemen and linebackers.

  3. Great news. He was a big reason why no one could run against us last season. He’s also a HUGE help to Vita Vea who plays beside him. With him and JPP back the defense that made huge strides late last season are mostly going to stay intact.

He went to Nebraska, and was drafted by the Lions.

  5. I’m sure he meant more to Arians and the Bucs than he did to the rest of the NFL. Suh isn’t much of a pass rusher any more but does clog up the middle and eats up blockers. Vea does the same. If the Bucs think he’s worth 8 mil, I can’t argue.
