Bruce Arians: Buccaneers won’t be signing Antonio Brown

Remember the reports that Tom Brady wanted personnel control in his next destination? Here’s further proof that those reports simply weren’t accurate.

Appearing on CBS Sports Radio with Tiki Barber and Brandon Tierney, Buccaneers coach Bruce Arians addressed the question of whether the Buccaneers would be signing receiver Antonio Brown, a player whom Tom Brady reportedly wants to play with again.

It’s not gonna happen,” Arian said regarding Antonio Brown. “There’s no room, you know? Probably not enough money. It’s just not gonna happen. It’s just not a fit here.”

Pressed on the issue, Arians was even more blunt than he usually is: “I just know him, and it’s not a fit in our locker room.”

Arians definitely knows Brown; during his first two NFL season, Arians served as offensive coordinator in Pittsburgh. In early 2019, as Brown was trying to tweet his way out of Pittsburgh, Arians said of Brown that there’s “too much . . . diva” in him.

It helps that the Buccaneers have plenty of weapons. They really don’t need Brown. Throw in the fact that he’s still facing multiple potential NFL-imposed suspensions, and it makes no sense for the Buccaneers to sign him, no matter how badly Brady may want Brown on the team.

  1. A welcome approach to winning that differs vastly from the Raiders ‘throw Brown/Burfict/Incognito against the wall and see what sticks’ way of doing things.

  2. Brady probably had his guest house in Costa Rica prepped for him and is now pouting on the beach.

  3. There’s a flood of articles about everything Brady, I have yet to read or hear him say he wants AB on his team. I obviously must have missed that one.

  4. Right now AB is too toxic for his own well being and for any team. He needs to take a year off and get some counseling.

Before you talk about the Raiders, remember that Bruce had no problems playing Suh and Winston. Both have troubled pasts. What about Bruce drafting Robert Nkimdeche?

  6. Even if they did, Brady’s legs can’t get away from an NFL pass rush in a brand new system. This is going to be hilarious to watch!

Normally Pete would take a guy like this, but Gordon may have spoiled it for AB

No, AB spoiled it for AB…. he’s not the victim in this HE’s the CAUSE!!!

  8. Brown is still a freak on the field.

The problem is he’s a freak on the sideline, in the locker room, on Twitter, at home, in front of cops/court, etc.

  9. Arians is already showing Brady love by taking this bullet for him. Tommy has Mike Evans. If Tom would have had Evans in New England, he’d have 7 or 8 rings. Tommy’s in hog heaven right now. He doesn’t want to turn this dream into a nightmare, and Coach is taking the hit for him. I’m telling you people, the Bucs are going to the super bowl.

  10. I am beginning to wonder if he will ever play in the NFL again. Wonderful talent but I guess the other stuff is not worth it.

  11. Good for Bruce. More coaches and even some players (looking right at you TB12) need to a grow a set and a call a dude out for what he really is. I can’t stand Brady’s AB lovefests.

  12. Brown is/was a heck of a WR… There’s no question about it. BUT… Godwin and Evans with Howard and Brate (plus whoever end up being the pass catching back) certainly won’t be leaving enough scraps to keep Mr Big Mess happy.

  13. “In early 2019, as Brown was trying to tweet his way out of Pittsburgh, Arians said of Brown that there’s “too much . . . diva” in him.”

    T.O. nods approvingly…

  14. Bruce Arians social distancing level: elite.

He’s not letting that plague anywhere near his team.

  15. a couple things.. they don’t even need him. They already have an offense. They just need someone who wont turnover the ball. Someone, that will make what they already have.. better. I’m not an New England, or Bucs fan, or even a Tom Brady fan, but I expect the level of play to rise around the team, as they WANT to be better with a QB that can win it all.

  16. When Drew Rosenhaus walks away, you know you’ve burned down every bridge. I’d be surprised if Brown is signed by anyone at this point.

  17. It was a gamble that made some sense in NE where they have no weapons. It makes zero sense in TB. There aren’t enough footballs to keep AB happy and we know how things go when he’s not happy

  18. For those Pats fan who have forever fawned over Tammy, I do recall him saying something about AB “living at my house” if I remember correct?

  19. If the Pats aren’t in play (highly likely, I know, I know), I hope the Bucs win the next SB so we can prove how much more valuable Brady is to a NFL team than Bill Belichick

I also hope Arians has the good sense to tailor his offensive game-planning – to whatever extent is necessary – to Brady’s strengths, i.e., short / intermediate passes and getting rid of the ball quickly
    we shall see, hopefully!

Awww poor little Tammy might pout and throw another temper tantrum after this

    How sad is your life…

    Good move Bruce!
