Cam Newton: “They gave up on me”

Free-agent quarterback Cam Newton is now waiting for his next NFL opportunity. In the meantime, he’s working out — and sharing his workouts on social media.

A set of images and videos includes one in which Newton, after a set of pulldowns (great for the arms, I think it is), says this: “All I know is work. All I know is work. That’s all I know. They gave up on me.”

He’s surely talking about the Panthers, who cut Newton earlier this week. And he surely seems to be motivated by the decision to rip up his contract and to make him a free agent.

Although Newton seems to be in tip-top shape, the NFL’s COVID-19 procedures make it impossible for teams to give Newton a proper physical, for now. Given his foot, ankle, and shoulder issues of the past, it’s critical for any interested team to be able to have its doctors closely inspect him.

No reports or rumors have emerged linking Newton to a new team, yet. The Chargers should be interested. Other teams (Dolphins, Patriots, Washington, Raiders) possibly, maybe could become interested. Surely, at some point, someone will give Newton a closer look and decide to do business with one of the best quarterbacks in the business, when healthy.

  1. And just like that he shows his true colors. SMH, it’s all about me. He will never change.

  2. This is one reason why I wouldn’t want Cam Newton on my team. He is a whiner. Everything with him is “woe is me”. UGH, drives me nuts

  3. Yes Cam, they really dropped the ball on this one and refused to pick it up. Stay classy dude.

  4. No one is going to do anything (same goes for Winston) until after the draft and teams see how it shakes out. If Miami drafts a QB, they are not going to be interested. They will let Fitzpatrick tutor the young QB. Unless the Raiders trade or cut Carr, they will have no interest. They just signed Mariota. The Skins just traded for Ryan Allen to backup Haskins, so I doubt they are in the market right now.It could be that Newton and Winston don’t get signed until a team suffers a camp injury.

  5. Cam the Scam just being real with the talk. He gave up on recovering his own fumble, his team moved on from his not a leader personality. Kind of a tit for tat situation.

  6. Dear Cam, Stop it with the crying you are hurting your chances of landing with another team. Nobody likes a cry baby… Thanks…Oh and by the way fashion shows from the locker room on game day are also frowned upon in most organizations especially the ones with winning cultures

  7. They, who paid him 10’s of millions of dollars for accomplishing nothing, gave up on him? Big Baby blames his team for his situation.

  8. I used to find Cam entertaining.
    But he’s just tiresome now.
Go away Cam, you’re yesterday’s amusement and no longer funny.

  9. Panthers have a New Owner, GM,Head Coach and brought in Joe Brady from LSU to be OC. They want to go in a different direction and will get players with the skill set to run their system.
Could be Chip Kelly 2.0 or it could be the next big thing. Cam was with the Old Guard and there is no one in this group that has any connection to Cam.

  10. Cam is a great dude off the field and some community is really going to benefit when he signs. I also think in the right place next year he could return to form. With that being said, please stop with these posts. It’s not going to help you land anywhere.

  11. This guy just doesn’t get it. He’s so immature. I feel bad for him. I’ve never seen a player that is so clueless on what NOT to say.

  12. over hyped, run the ball in from the 1 yard line and act like you just broke off a huge run type of qb is not “one of the best in the business when healthy”

  13. Stole a computer, cheated academically, you and dad wanted cash payments. Id say karma just came full circle.

  14. I gave up on you after seeing your childish dancing actions in 2015 after every third down and then fumbling in the superbowl. Then you added insult to injury by caring more about what you wear after the game than winning. Seriously, what other NFL QB spends time preparing what they wear to the post game press conference?

  15. Cam has a lot of upside, but a lot of downside as well.

    I don’t trust his health.

Playing dress up after losing rubs a lot guys the wrong way.

Maybe we’ll see a more professional Cam in Cam 2.0, and I’ll be a fan…

  16. Imagine if Newton and Beckham were on the same team. And I’m not talking field performance, which wouldn’t be good.

  17. “All I know is work. All I know is work. That’s all I know. They gave up on me.”

    ____

Whatever you gotta tell yourself to get through the day. Just don’t expect the general public to have any sympathy for you. You’re not a martyr or a victim.

  18. Gave up on him?? He had 9 years and a couple big contracts. I dont think they “gave up” on him. His career ran its course and it’s time to move on. Oh yea, should have jumped on that ball.

  19. Say what you want, there’s some terrible starting QB’s in the league. He’ll be a starter week 1

  20. Let’s put it this way. Newton is in no position to demand a huge contract. He can’t go Latrell Sprewell and turn down a nice contract because “I got kids to feed”.

  21. Geez, you are not on your rookie deal. Maybe it’s because you’re drama queen. Maybe you should have dressed like a normal person instead of being some dork showboat.

  22. Not falling on the fumble is the easy one everybody picks up on. What about the game when the Panthers were down by 27 points and being shut out mid way through the 4th. They were able to drive against a soft d running out the clock. Inside the 5 Cam runs off tackle and scores and immediately went to his Superman Chest popping out routine and screaming all for himself.

Dude,,, down nearly 30pts, scores in garbage time loss, and still doing the Superman Look At Me.. and always be team deaf

  23. The same guy who gave up in the Super Bowl can’t figure out why the franchise finally gave up on him.

  24. I don’t think many teams are interested in a guy who cares more about his post-game press conference look than winning the game.

  25. He had a bad attitude at Florida. Out. Has had a me-first attitude forever. Was like that at Auburn. Was coddled and protected. Remember the “I Stand with CAM” shirts they had?

This guy has never, ever changed. He’s always been me-first. And he continues to do so without a team. I don’t think I have to worry about my team (the Niners) signing him, thank God. I feel sorry for the team that does. Might be a model citizen for a year, tops. He’s all about Cam. Period.

  26. The Patriots gave up on Tom Brady after he already won 6 super bowls for them, yet he has nothing but great things to say about their organization. He believes he has to prove himself every day. He’s busy working on getting his new team to a super bowl. He doesn’t have any time to whine or feel sorry for himself. Maybe that’s why he’s a six time world champion. If you feel someone gave up on you, go out and prove them wrong. Besides, there’s a Kleenex shortage right now. Save those tears.

  27. 6 Time Super Bowl Champ isn’t whining about a team not wanting him. He’s bent on proving them wrong. Maybe you should be too instead of feeling sorry for yourself. But then that’s been the difference between you and greatness all along hasn’t it?

  28. “And just like that he shows his true colors. SMH, it’s all about me. He will never change”

He got cut. He’s a free agent. Who else is it supposed to be about with him at this point?

  29. Boo-hoo for Scam Newton. Maybe he should have tried harder during his time there.

  30. Yo, Cam Cheating – in your Snoopy Bowl season you managed to win 13 games against teams with losing records. Superman you are not.

  31. I imagine all these haters having the accumulative IQ as the crowd that’s going against CDC guidelines and facilitating this virus to wreak havoc.

  32. Lol the Pat’s didn’t give up on brady He wanted to get away from Belichek

  33. When he puts effort he can do great things, but that’s the thing, when. So many games with half ass effort, no heart. Cam, gave up on himself and the team. Lost the hunger. Hopefully this is a learning for him and he has a solid second act. Otherwise he can continue with the fashion show somewhere besides the NFL. Ha ha

  34. Yeah being a qb in the nfl today is so unfair. You only make more money than just about anyone in the team and you don’t even have to he really good to cash out but just fake it for a few games. Look at chase Daniel, he’s the head coach and starting qb’s best friend, knows his role and steals millions of dollars every year. Now that’s the life.

  35. “Surely, at some point, someone will give Newton a closer look and decide to do business with one of the best quarterbacks in the business, when healthy.”

Lol. No he’s not. He hasn’t been that for years. He’s one of the most overrated names in the NFL. Want proof? Nobody is calling.

  36. Bigger, stronger version of Krapernack. That’s why he lasted longer. We will now have the Cam stories for 3 years. Who on earth would sign him? 3 QBs in the draft this year. Probably a surprise in there too. Will take time to sort out. Better class next year. That’s 7 teams. Last I checked there weren’t even 7 QB openings.

Only option if a team loses a QB. Even then, he will a pull Krapernack and be paid like the 6 months of prime time versus his real value.

He’s done. Winston, on the other hand, will get a chance. But some people were born to make quick decisions in 3 seconds, some were not. He’ll be an exciting if polarizing back-up.

  37. So explain to me WHY the NFL has banned physicals due to the Corona Virus?
    Because of social distancing?

So does that mean I am not allowed to see my doctor when it comes time for my physical in 2 weeks?

  38. He’s the only guy who doesn’t realize he’s not that good. Since his mvp season he’s been QBR 48.9 30th-TD-Int 65-44 30th-Comp pct 60% 33rd

  39. Your body gave up on you just like when you didn’t fall on the football in the SB !!!

  40. “one of the best quarterbacks in the business”

At no point in Newtons career was Newton ever “one of the best quarterbacks in the business.”

    ????….a…ya….ok……..smh….

  42. Cam is always going to be judged the same way as all people with larger than life personas like his: when he’s winning/playing well his dabs and outfits and mouth will be tolerated and even applauded, but when he’s injured/not playing well, he’s going to come off as he does here…bitter and obnoxious. Just the way it is. Gotta take the good with the bad.

  43. Injured or not you became at best average on the field, and the biggest baby off the field… what did you expect

  44. Cam, be glad it took them this long. Most of us saw this Coming a long time ago.

I imagine Newton apologists as those who took part in the all the internet ‘challenges’ from Tide pod to Corona virus. In the end, those who think clearly don’t like Newton’s ‘me first’ attitude, the selfishness of lack of effort on the fumble, and QB workout videos. They, and I, prefer our QBs social media to be more about grinding film-if they post at all- rather than physical traits. I would rather have a Brady or Brees than a Newton or Kaepernick every day of the week and yes, twice on Sunday.

  46. By not putting in the work the past two seasons, to stay healthy, YOU gave up on THEM, CAM. Now, nobody wants you, even as a back-up. Deal with it.

This from someone who’s username includes the word “egomaniac” should not be a surprise.

  48. It just goes to show that one play can really define a player. The SB50 gif has been all over comment sections lately and every time I shake my head when Cam starts moving towards the loose ball, hesitates, and then moves away. It will be the asterisk on any conversation about his career.

  49. Once Von and the Broncos D smashed in SB 50, he was done. He never payed the same after that game.

Yes, it might mean that. A physical is a non essential appointment and they re conserving on medical resources everywhere. As that gets close you should check with theIr office to see where that stands.

  51. Cam is talented and Cam is polarizing, obviously. We want pro athletes to be accessible and relatable, but we complain when all we get is cookie-cutter soundbites out of them. Then we complain when someone like Cam expresses himself or is moody or doesn’t give bland sound bite answers.

    He can’t win.

I agree, not diving for that ball made him look bad. He had a moment where self-preservation took over and made him hesitate. But then again, they were only in the SB because of him.

The fact that so many people seem to focus on how he dresses is just weird to me. Why does anyone care?
