Tom Brady tries to capitalize on his shared initials with Tampa Bay

Sorry, Tom Brokaw. No dice, Tony Bennett. Better luck next time, Terry Bradshaw.

Tom Brady has moved to Tampa Bay, and he’s going to try to cash in on the common nature of his and its initials.

According to the Los Angeles Times, via Sports Business Daily, Brady has filed a trademark application for “TB X TB.” Per the report, Brady’s inspiration came from the team’s use of that very slogan when introducing Brady last week via digital video. The trademark application was made by Brady the same day the Buccaneers debuted the video.

The application explains that Brandy intends to use the slogan on “clothing, including shirts, pants, shorts, sweatshirts, sweaters, jerseys, sleepwear and headwear.”

It’s an unknown, as explained by the Times, whether the Bucs had planned to use the slogan for their own merchandising purposes. If they did, well, TB X TB = Too Bad.

  1. Everyone is going to think it’s the stud from the University of Michigan Tim Biakabutuka. TB21

  2. Cool, but why would Brandy want to use that slogan on clothing? Are her MOESHA checks all dried up?

  3. To Be or not To Be, the original TB x TB

I can’t imagine wanting either on some merch but hey, if ya got some money to throw away I suppose you could do worse…. but not by much.

  4. It’s interesting that he’d want to take somebody else’s idea to profit for himself.
But I suppose, once a cheater, always a cheater.

  5. Yeah, sure, he didn’t think of anything like this prior to signing. Please, Tommy jumped the shark a few years ago. Branding probably factored into his decision more than he’ll ever admit.

  6. there are now heaps of Chargers fans hoping and praying that wasn’t “T-B” wasn’t the tiebreaker …

  7. It’s all about money, folks. Never believe any player who says he signed with a different team unless he says only one thing — it was all about the money.

  8. When you already have millions, and want more.

So we have one vote for socialism?

  9. At this point, Brady is more concerned about building his brand which was one of the reason he clashed with Belichick. His hunger and drive is gone.

Or he wanted to get market value and play with some great receivers.

And also trademarks work in another way, to PREVENT others from making money off your mark.

Extremely prudent decision by Brady, this will help prevent what Lamar Jackson is suing Amazon for, knock off apparrel.

It was all about throwing to Evans and Godwin. Don’t blame him one bit.

  13. LOL at haters not understanding copyrights. Just because he trademarked doesn’t mean he’s trying to cash out on it, how much money is Brady really making with TB X TB clothes lol. It’s also to protect his own name and prevent other companies from profiting off of it.

  14. I’m a little shocked that so many are ripping on a guy that has taken millions upon millions less than his market value. An idea that seems VERY popular with fans but other than Brady you don’t see it practiced very often. Seattle fans wanted Wilson to take less like Tom. Cowboys fans want Dak to ask for less. I see KC fans saying “we have to win before PM get’s paid”

Brady has been the Jordan of the NFL over the past 20 years. He’s probably left a good $100 million on the table. He probably could have made an extra 5 million per year over the last 2 decades if he was all about the money.

  15. How embarrassing.
Right up there with Lamar’s catch phrase lawsuit.
    C’mon man!!!
Oops….sorry Chris Berman. Checks in the mail.

Well we know that haters / crybabies/ jealous fans (yes that’s what you are) are not that smart!

What’s embarrassing is you posting on anything related to TB12 or the Pats, that’s what’s truly embarrassing.

  18. It’s always been about the money, always has been always will be, that’s the only thing he cares about

  19. “I have no problem with Tom Brady profiting off a real cool catch phrase.
    In fact, I Vike that!“

    ~ Kirk Cousins ~

  20. I could care less if Brady wins another game, but the people claiming it’s all about the money … you’ve got to be kidding, right? This is the guy that was giving the Pats MVP play at backup QB rates for years. There’s many reasons to root against Brady, but greediness isn’t one

Yes, the guy who’s left literally $50M on the table over his career has “always been about the money”. /sarcasm

  22. Very exciting, Tommy! Keep that “brand” cranking! Very important, Mr. Big Britches!

What’s next, only invite Evans and Godwin to your Montana Ranch? Will Welkie be there?

  23. I find it odd that people whine about other people trying to maximize their income. I’d like to tell those worried about others to let me tell them they shouldn’t make more than minimum wage because they are just stupid.

I applaud Tomasina Brady trying to make as much money as he can. That is wonderful for him to do while he still has the ability to do it! No jealousy here – just contempt for those who whine that other people make too much.

Yep, most people who are competitive stay that way in business and in life. And have good business sense.
Its like when you have 6 rings and you want MORE. Even when it means kicking a QB with LASIK out.

Winners Stopped caring about whiners like you from day 1.

  25. You’d think Brady leaving the Pats, along with many other starters from last year, would give the experts who’ve cried on every Patriot-related post on this gossip site for roughly the past 2 decades a chance to sit back in their Moms’ basements in Colorado or New Jersey or Indiana, relish the hope that the Pats are done, at least for the foreseeable future, and give their overworked index fingers a rest.

But you thought wrong. It’s a sickness, and now we’ll get to see these same ingrates posting on every Patriots AND Buccaneers article. Brady and Belichick still own the psyches of these man-children, apparently till the end of time.

  26. I agree that it does seem Brady has been much more focused on Branding than he used to be. I don’t have any objection to it, though I am tired of hearing about “TB12”, and ways of life tied to it, his friend Guerrero, and avocados, etc. I wish Tom the best in Tampa Bay. As a pats fan, I appreciate his service very much, but find myself looking forward to a fresh start with new faces.

You hit the nail on the head.

I still see people on here ripping the Bills from pillar to post and the Kelly Super Bowl era was 30 years ago. Even though they didn’t win it all, those teams were great. I don’t get the vitriol, but the wounds of chronic losing must run deep in some folks.

It’s been fun being a Patriot fan and it will continue to be. Good luck to the conspiracy-theorists and downtrodden masses who didn’t like it and spew crazy excuses as a result. You’d think they’d at least appreciate how hard it was to make it last that long.

  28. Poor Brady always leaves money on the table so he has to resort to these side hustles.

  29. I think Tampa Bay Tommy should cool it with the self promotion right now. There’s a lot more going on today than just him.

Biggest fan of his but this crap will change that. Enough.
