Report: Tony Boselli was in ICU with COVID-19

The coronavirus pandemic inevitably will touch every industry, every walk of life. Although only one current member of the broader NFL family has tested positive (Saints coach Sean Payton), there surely will be more.

And they won’t just test positive. The statistics guarantee that some NFL figures will get sick, some will get very sick, and some may die. Case in point: Mike Freeman of Bleacher Report reports that COVID-19 resulted in the placement of former NFL offensive lineman Tony Boselli in an intensive care unit.

Per Freeman, the 47-year-old Boselli is doing better but he’s still receiving treatment.

It’s another reason for everyone to take the situation very seriously, and to ignore those who (for whatever reason) continue to try to downplay the situation as the seasonal flu. The seasonal flu has a vaccine. The seasonal flu doesn’t flood hospitals with people who need serious care in order to remain alive. The seasonal flu doesn’t prompt daily news conferences from the President and governors from the states who are desperate for the materials and equipment necessary to keep health-care workers safe.

Like so many other things in modern life, plenty of people with public platforms locked into an early narrative and now refuse to admit they possibly were wrong, no matter how many people they mislead or endanger. When the world returns to normal, those whose doubled down on misguided messages once it became clear and obvious that this is a unique crisis should be held accountable — especially if they continue to refuse to acknowledge that their shrugs and nonchalance made things worse by giving those who wanted to continue to normally live their lives cover for selfishly ignoring the sage advice of the experts.

  1. The unfortunate nature of a pandemic is that it doesn’t become real to someone, until they know someone that dies from it.

  2. The mortality rate is nearing 1% for people who test positive. So with many cases having little to no symptoms, thus many people not getting tested, the mortality rate is far less than 1%.

No one wants anyone to get it, but the headlines purposely inject fear.

As bad as the virus is, the media is worse.

  3. Just guessing Florio wasn’t wearing his Trump cap when he wrote this one.

  4. Actually, it causes lung scaring and possible heart damage in some of the survivors.
And if hospitals are overwhelmed they can’t properly care for everyone, leading to more (unnecessary) deaths and permanent damage (lung, heart, and who knows what else).

It’s hard to estimate the death rate because not everyone who has it reports it. 1% over may be right, or it may be higher.
The other thing to keep in mind is so far hospitals have been able to treat everyone.
If the number of infected increases 10 fold or more you will see an increase in death rate.

It will probably end up closer to 3%.

  5. People that are right most of the time, can admit when they’re wrong. People that are wrong most of the time, aren’t going to admit it, and why should they? Dumb is the new smart, and that’s not a joke. Americans used to be competitive. We never settled for 2nd place in anything. Not education. Not health care. Not basketball or track. Not quality of life. Nothing. Once you take away education, the rest is easy. Thumbs down if you can’t read on an 8th grade level.

  6. “The mortality rate is nearing 1% for people who test positive. So with many cases having little to no symptoms, thus many people not getting tested, the mortality rate is far less than 1%.

*sigh*. Ok. So the smart people in charge know that a lot of people will get this, and be perfectly fine. It isn’t the 1% they care about. It’s the current 12% hospitalization rate. For the flu, the hospitalization rate is 1%. That is the number the community is trying to flatten, trying to keep a flood of people from going to the hospital all at once. I’m sure the media is having a field day with this, but the threat of hospitals being overwhelmed is very real. See: Italy, Spain, NYC. It’s happening there.

It may not happen near you. It may be a problem for the big cities and a much lesser problem for rural america and the suburbs. Whatever happens, I hope you follow the rules the government sets, you stay healthy, and in turn you keep the people you love healthy. There is no reason to flaunt this or pretend it doesn’t exist. Be safe.

  7. Politics made this worse. Leaders who wanted to label the president as racist when he shut down travel to China. Like those buffoons in NYC that said you’d be racist if you didn’t go to Chinese New Year celebrations. And now that the pandemic has made it to the US, the liberal media(who all called it the Wuhan virus in the beginning) is trying their best to make the President look incompetent. Sometimes it is by inflating numbers or trying to have these projected forecasts of deaths.

With such a disgusting game of gotcha going on, the American public has a very difficult time trusting anyone. You can be on your high horse and make fun of people who don’t know how to take anything seriously, but that’s on all of you who add to this crazy political climate.

  8. And this thread is a perfect example. Everyone’s threshold of when they would take action is different. Due to the large latent window of this virus, by the time the naysayers would deem the threat valid, it will already be too late for the measures to be effective.

  9. @donttrollonme That’s the thing. Looks like we might need to see some of those death estimates to become real before all of us joins this fight. My proudest moment as an American was the day that we came together and ran down that stairwell at the World Trade Center on 9/11. No religious, race, age, sex, or economic differences. Just people helping each other. This virus is already way too political. Medical Doctors against Spin Doctors. We are not yet ready to fight this together.

  10. “We’re ALL gonna die!!! And worse, we’ll ALL be broke when we do.” Yeah, THAT sounds much more presidential! This new America wants nothing to do with optimism. On a bright note, this will save us from the terrible man-made global warming annialation that is scheduled every 50 years! Oops. More optimism.

  11. “It’s another reason for everyone to take the situation very seriously, and to ignore those who (for whatever reason) continue to try to downplay the situation as the seasonal flu. The seasonal flu has a vaccine.”

A lot of people downplaying it live in places where it hasn’t hit yet. Assuming the administration keeps handling in the current haphazard and uncoordinated manner, give it a month. People being cavalier about it now will then have it blowing up in their communities and will be forced to either a) acknowledge it for what it is or b) intentionally disregard accounts from healthcare workers and stories about people fighting for their lives or dying in their own communities. Until then, we’ll continue to have a subset of the population parroting moronic conspiracy theories about media-induced hysteria and the deep state.

  12. Dr. Tony Fauci has served as the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases since 1984, and he said that American Covid-19 deaths could reach 200,000. That is a credible source.

The key appears to be testing and quarantining those in contact with the non-symptomatic but nonetheless testing positive.

  13. Pretty sure I don’t want to end up in the ICU regardless of the mortality rate. Thank you to all of our health care workers and first responders!

  14. “We’re ALL gonna die!!! And worse, we’ll ALL be broke when we do.” Yeah, THAT sounds much more presidential! This new America wants nothing to do with optimism. No one said we are all going to die. And no one said we will be broke. Not one news outlet is reporting that. You can be optimistic about this situation, but within the context of of what we are observing. The optimistic view is we will social distance ourselves, help each other stay healthy, listen to what the smart people say, and this will be in decline by the summer; in 12 months, we will have a vaccine and it won’t be an issue at all moving forward. Our economy will recover and life will resume but not before the community acts as one unit and protects the elderly and the compromised.

And again, not one news outlet is reporting global warming will destroy the earth in 50 years. They are reporting observed temperature changes on the planet. Interpret those findings how you like.

I find it curious how you hear all those things that you posted, yet none of those things were ever said.

  15. So… this was a story about Tony Boselli but in the entire rant, Boselli was mentioned in two sentences…

This is why people don’t trust/respect the media anymore.

  16. You forgot the part about the flu killing 20,000 every year in the US 650,000 worldwide every year! Then you say only 1% are hospitalized with the flu? So I guess most people die at home with the flu? Horsecrap!

  17. A bit of a wake up call to some of the naive on here.. the death rate of covid-19 is not 1%.. it’s not 3% either… at the time of me writing this the death rate of “closed cases” (ie those that either recover or die) is 18%. That’s not an exaggeration… that’s the death rate as of me writing this on 3/29/2020. The head of the American response says he expects “at least” 100-200 THOUSAND Americans to died from this virus in the coming weeks…… TAKE IT SERIOUSLY!!!!!!!!!!

Really, man? It’s sarcasm. Trump presents optimism while Fauci gives scientific data. People aren’t panicking enough, hoarding TP, meats, etc.. So bwhat donwe need; POTUS flipping out and playing Doomsdayer? Fauci wasn’t appointed by MSNBC, CNN or even Pelosi. Trump chose him to give the data, while the Pres gives the optimism. If Trump WAS doom and gloom, you’d be complaining about that. LOL This crisis is all encompassing. Every news station, all the time. Anyone not doing safe things during this mess are just morons. Can’t blame the government for that. Obama was golfing during Swine Flu. Remember? 12,469 Americans died. Did he know how few would die? Is THAT why he didn’t show the leadership Trump is showing, closing borders and updating constantly? Bottom Line: it was sarcasm, meant to highlight the man-made global warming type doom & gloom the MSM conveniently uses when THEIR guy isn’t at the helm. Sarcasm. LOL

I’ll say it has more to do with people portraying the media as fake and then taking their own ideology and listening to social media that fits their narrative. Never in a million years would I ever have thought the POTUS would be insulting media for simply using actual facts. Then again, this POTUS did his fare share of Alex Jones appearances and uses FOXNews prime-time interviews who FOX has actually gone on record to say real journalism ends and opinion pundits fill the night shift.
The only way I understand the quote above is that PFT made a post and hardly anyone mentioned Tony’s name. PFT just stated facts and people made comments by what they think are the real facts shaped by social media. It’s not brain science. The guy running Trumps campaign is basically a tech guru in manipulating social media and he’s very good at it.

  20. Bottom Line: it was sarcasm, meant to highlight the man-made global warming type doom & gloom the MSM conveniently uses when THEIR guy isn’t at the helm. Sarcasm. LOL

My bad. It’s hard to tell sometimes, especially in this day and age. Love.

  21. What’s more likely — that all the media, doctors and scientists across the world conspired to make sensational headlines about a common, harmless virus, or the media is reporting facts about a real threat that has caused the death of thousands of people to date and caused most countries in the world to go on lockdown?

  22. The problem is even the experts don’t really know what they’re doing or what they’re talking about as far as projections. Literally. You have expert projections downgrading their projections from 500,000 dead to 20,000 in the span of a week. Those early models were what the whole worldwide shutdown was based on. All we really have to go on is statistics based on what’s already happened. Maybe the entire system gets over-run or maybe it doesn’t, but having ventilators or not won’t make much of a difference anyway because the death rate is 86% for those that go on ventilators worldwide. About all modern medicine can do for this deal is give you a prescription for hydroxychloroquine and an oxygen machine (which anyone can buy on amazon for about $100).

  23. When will the hillbillies who voted for Trump admit how
    disastrous a decision it was?

  24. This isn’t so much a story about Boselli as it is a soapbox. As another commentor mentioned, when that certain person wanted to curtail travel from China he was labeled a racist and a fear-monger. Let’s face it, nobody, and I mean nobody, knew what to expect from this monster. China isn’t exactly the most trustworthy when it comes to providing truthful information. Even now it’s hard to believe their numbers are accurate? They reported 45 new cases yesterday. If you believe that I have some ocean-front property to see in Bristol, CT. Italy’s leader has said he thought they have reached their peak. I haven’t heard anyone criticize him. Many governors started taking action as it started to take a grip in other states. New York and Louisiana were slow to act and now they are suffering the consequences. Where’s the blame for Cuomo and for the mayor of New Orleans who let Mardi Gras continue in spite of the danger. It must be great to hold political office and be incompetent when you can just blame someone else for it. If you listen to Cuomo, everything is someone else’s fault. Sounds to me like they need to get someone in there who will be proactive and be accountable.

    ——-

I won’t call Trump voters hillbillies, but don’t expect any to admit Trump botched this from the start. I mean, imagine where we’d be if the entire country watched Fox News?

The mainstream media’s persistent reporting has been one of the main reason people have taken precautions, thereby slowing it down.

And on some of those models that people talk about, many offered worst case scenarios, if no precautions were taken. Of course those models now predict different outcomes, it is common sense.

  26. “the liberal media(who all called it the Wuhan virus in the beginning) is trying their best to make the President look incompetent”

He needs no help he been totally incompetent with this from the start. He treated it as a political problem and personal attack on him and a called it a hoax publicly, instead of treating it as the medical problem it is and listening to the experts.

  27. It isn’t about the amount of people who die from the virus itself, it is about what it is going to do to hospital s / ICU’ s capacity to treat seriously ill people. It is a 47 year old man in an ICU that shouldn’t be in an ICU.

  28. Everyone agrees that there are many times the undiagnosed cases still out there than we have already seen. Think how much that improves the mortality rate.
