Rams raise $2.3 million for charity through fans’ hatred of their logo

There’s a silver lining to the widely panned new Rams logo: It helped raise money for some good causes.

After fans almost universally ripped the Rams’ new logo as ugly and amateurish, the Rams decided to have some fun with it, with Rams Chief Operating Officer Kevin Demoff promising to read the meanest tweets about the logo if Rams fans would donate at least $2 million to United Way of L.A. and the L.A. Regional Food Bank.

By Friday, fans had donated $2.3 million, so Demoff posted a video of himself reading the tweets.

“If you’re low on toilet paper, don’t worry. You can now get it on NFL Shop,” one tweet said.

“The new LA Rams logo is the major way of social distancing,” said another.

Demoff also acknowledged that the backlash against the Rams had caused some reflection within the organization.

“While it isn’t always the easiest to hear, we value the commentary you have provided on the logo & colors,” Demoff tweeted. “We are excited about the future of our team, our brand & our stadium, but recognize we can always get better through feedback and engagement and appreciate your passion.”

The Rams took the ‘L’ on this one, and turned it into a win for their community.

  1. Is this supposed to change our minds about Rams adopting what looks like a Chargers logo?

  2. Just wondering how much money they could raise by fans commenting on the ability of Demhof and other Rams management?
Say, all fans who submit a tweet AND a donation of $25.00 would have their tweet read, on air, as presented. Now that would be interesting!!!

  3. Not a fan of the new logo but also don’t think it is as bad as everyone else does. At least they have a logo unlike Cleveland — which is bizarre.

This idea was fantastic and Demoff handled this in a brilliant manner.

  4. As a Rams fan this still sucks no matter what the organization does. The college logo rip off to end up look like what the Chargers could use sucks. I get wanting to make a splash but damn most Rams fans love the current scheme. Scrap it and don’t change it!

  5. Rams fans donated money because it’s the right thing to do.

It has nothing to do with Demoff being a rat faced weasel who first lied to us about the logo, and then mocked our fan base by reading “mean tweets”.

That logo is terrible and an embarrassment.

  6. “The new LA Rams logo is the major way of social distancing,” said another.

    That doesn’t make any sense.

  7. This is the point where conspiracists will claim the Rams created a crappy logo on purpose as an elaborate marketing scheme, instead of just creating a crappy logo because they’re not very good at their jobs … darn you New Coke!

  8. The Chiefs are the classiest organization in the league. Chiefs Kingdom alone would have raised 3X the amount, if anyone even dared/threatened to alter the sacred Arrowhead logo

  9. Dennis Carson says:
“The new LA Rams logo is the major way of social distancing,” said another.

    That doesn’t make any sense.

The joke is that if you’re wearing that logo, no one will want to go near you.

I like that they’re revisiting the logo after fan reaction. And I like that they did this to have fun acknowledging the problem.
